  • too cool for school, lol

  • For most liberals, being defenseless is a badge of honor.

  • The 80's produced some of the best music ever!

  • I was 14 when this came out! I just loved it and I still do (sigh)

  • yeah! 80's were the best! :P

  • jozez1, stop calling murder honorable. it is not never was. death is death even in a foreign land. remember this was a foreign before whites came and fukked it up.

  • Does the great music of the 80s make up for our bad clothes?

  • @TVWriterGuy ja ja ja, well they weren't bad when we wore them :D they were cool :)

  • bloody hell, i think i'm 15 again :(

  • how would we know that the 80s were the best if we didn't have the 90s and 2000s

  • @41stan well to answer your question, The 90's and the 2000s already passed without us noticing, not like the 80's living a trend in music and clothes and style, so.... so far 80's were the best! :P

  • What a ripoff of Shalamar.

  • I wish i was in the 80's. Everything was so much better back then.

  • @96Seaturtles me too! :(

  • I had this tape

  • For those of you that sleep and rise under the blanket of freedom that is provided by those of us who DO fight, either pick up a gun or shut up! It is easy to complain when freedom is taken for granted. Remember that our military force is a volunteer force. If you join, DO NOT COMPLAIN when sent to war. If you do not fight with us, you too shut up.

  • @josez1 picking up a gun is not the answer to everything. if only humans can let go of their ego and greed and practice non-violence...

  • @josez1 Freedom of Speech is one of the freedoms you fight to preserve for the American people. If YOU don't like it, then just don't serve. No one is criticizing G.I.s for fighting wars, in fact, we love our boys and girls who serve for us overseas. The complaint is with the politicians who often do not have legitimate reasons to start wars in the first place.

  • @Chortstuf Politicians start wars because they want financial resources and they will use all kinds of reasons to justify conquest. In some cases, though, you have to have a strong defense. If you don't, you can be under the mercy of those who have less noble intentions.

  • i could happily drive along a sunny coastline with my girlfriend listening to this....:)

  • This song is too awesome!

  • Why was the US version of the video only in black and white? Hit #15 AC, #31 pop in the US (Billboard). How'd it do in the UK? God bless!

  • listen to the lyrics=understand what it says

  • This was the time when the guy groups were well dressed and had some class. This group, Spandau Ballet, and others were great! They made great music and looked good. I miss the 80's...if only I could go back. I loved music back then. Thanks for posting.

  • listen to the lyrics folks

  • good

    .

  • Cause you aren't satisfied till thousand will die,

And your anger is paint for their blood

  • Kept 'em from bein' a 1 hit wonder in the US. Hit #31. How'd it do in the UK? God bless!

  • @DaveWollenberg No11

  • @DaveWollenberg In Britain, this single was more popular. It almost made the top 10 there. The American record label had a real problem with this song coming out as a single in the States because of its anti-war stance. No doubt radio stations were reluctant to play this for the same reason. In many ways, this single, I believe, cemented the group as being short-lived in America.

  • @RocStarr913 which is a shame since there really wasn't any wars in the 80's :/ and the song does speak truths about war and what it does to people and how most were treated when they came back from it. Sad really, Johnny Hates Jazz is one of my all time favorite 80's groups.

  • @RocStarr913 totally agree with you on this.

  • And those who return

    come back only to learn

That they're hated by those who they love

    Cause you're not satisfied

    til a thousand have died

and your angry is paid for in blood

  • i dont believe in war either

  • Oh, send me off to war With a gun in my hand But I won't pull the trigger Out destiny is here 'Neath the red, white and blue So lead me to the slaughter Now don't be afraid Come and join the parade For the ultimite in sacrifise It's an old-fashioned story Of hope and of glory A ticket for taking a life
  • Brings back lots of memories from the 80's ... Good to hear you back - Clark Wynford Datchler !!!

  • Comment removed

  • Johnny was the name of a friend of the band who did dislike jazz...and here in the US the band got blown to bits, they did very well over in the uk however.

  • Didn't realise they flopped over in the U.S

Different tastes in music seem to have always been the case between the 2 countries.

  • Yeah sadly bands like theirs, A-HA, among others went big nearly everywhere else, but they were one hit wonders here(basically). I love all that stuff, probably should have been born outside the US, but not like I had much of a choice there.

  • Yeah I've still got some tapes of AHA kicking about somewhere lol !!

Theres been an awful lot of good UK stuff over the years but there's no doubt the U.S. has had some brilliant rock bands etc over the years, for me at least some of the 80s rock from over your way was superb.

  • what a beautiful song ! today music is nothing chomper to the 80's johnny heat's jazz nice band with a good music thank you for posting

  • The 90s were good too

  • I agree to a point but think it all depends on when you were born.

I think your teens and early 20s are the most influential of your life music wise.

  • Canberra: You're right on the mark . . . Do any of your readers/listeners remember seeing a beautiful girl singing in the background in one version of this video . . . I can still see her face, and she had those long ringlets or curls sort of "Amy Grant" style . . . anybody remember that?

  • this should now be used for th war in iraq

  • Great Song!

  • phonomanel

  • What a great song !! I love it !

  • Yeah! Reminiscense of 80's. This song was so popular when i was in high school. What a famous lovely era! Thanx a million to Johnny n' his special band!

  • Brit pop. Recuerdo que compré el primer y único disco de este grupo en 1.987. En vinilo, por supuesto. Vivía en Motril por entonces y me deleitaba escuchando todas las canciones del disco. Lástima que no siguieran, porque eran muy buenos. Salvador Moreno

  • cool

  • why o,h why did they finish?? this song plus many others are really fantastic..

    Noddy..

  • Great song. Great band. Wish they'd been around longer.

  • so good old but good

  • It's a different story in the Vietnam War.

That's what this song is against.

  • In the USA if you do not wan't to join the military - you don't have to. If you do not want to be a hero - then that is fine. This is why our military is special. They are ALL volunteers and when they go to fight, they don't ask why - they just do it for their country. THAT is what makes them HEROS.

  • Erm...oookaaayyy....if you think so....check out Universal soldier by Donovan....

  • A simple check with the history books will reveal that not all the Americans who fought in the Vietnam War were volunteers. And even if they were volunteers, how are they being treated today?

  • Very good point.

  • hv always love this song since i was young...nostalgia

  • very appropriate for today. this song was actually a hit during peace time (for the US anyway.)

  • It was the group's only other US hit.

  • I just love this song!I hope they will make a comeback!

  • thank you for posting

  • They should make a comeback, even if it's just to campaign against the Iraq War.

  • That's amazing how the internet has all you are looking for I never think that I will find this song.

    Thanks.

  • I like too Clard Datchler

  • Buenos recuerdos con esta canción.

  • clark too is handsome and sexy

  • oH SEND ME OFF TO WAR IN A FAR WAYA LAND i NEVER KNEW EXISTED

  • i don"t want to be a hero, i don"t want to die for you!

  • 80s are the best

  • in the uk you can see clark datchler singing but in the us you can see his face as he left the band so they did this just till they got a new front man .

  • if you play the song backwards you can hear clark singing the lyrics "please help the rest of the band are planning to make me disappear"

    wonder what that meant

  • someone asked what the differance was betwen the uk and the usa version of the song was .i only meant that in the usa video you cant see clarks face as he had left the band

  • what's da difference between da us & uk version? juz wanna know

  • Clever use of red and the lines look like veins. How appropriate for an anti-war song. Blood should not be spilt. Also, this song, in fact the entire album it came from are so incredible that I still listen to it every week!

  • this sounds a lot like shalamars i can make you feel good

  • never made the connection before but your right.

  • Simply classic timeless song

    Rossington and the 80s rocked

  • Fantastic song - the extended version (on album) is just as great too.

  • Hey kenedict!

I seem to remember the US version having a single female "backup singer" during Kim Wylde's part but none of the US versions I've seen here have her. Any help?

  • With war this works well now.

  • I won't die for George, Dick, Condi, or Hillary. If they send me off to war, they'll have to come and drag me out with the .44 Magnum Round lodged in my head that leaves my brains splattered all over the stars & stripes.

    So There.

  • These guy are fun smart and hip. If you missed them the first time you missed a fun group. these guys sure keep the fans in check. Johnny your the best Thanks from Happy

  • He's cute too!

  • yeah babe, that was when we really had music, the 80ties.

  • このトレンディードラマちっくなメロディーが最高です。

  • I love my song, is one of my favorites ever...

    Thank you.

  • Great to make a a time trip , greaqt ...so dance....

  • very good video is my favorite....

  • Also it is worthy to note that Shalamar was an American Disco/R&B group that was much bigger in the UK than America. The UK has such a greater appreciation for music.

  • If you listen real closely to the rhythm and beat it sounds similar to a song by Shalamar named "I Can Make You Feel Good" that was released in 1982 off the "Friends" lp. I still like this song.

  • Thank you so much for posting !!!!! :D it made my day!

  • amazing!!

  • Viva '80s!

  • que buena cancion.La primera vez que la escuche por lo menos un dia no la habre dejado de poner.

  • Great band. Too bad they went bust.

  • Never heard of these guys but the beat is catchy & the words are so right! (I give it a 90!)

  • Brilliant!

    Many Thanks

  • nice song!
