  • @ 1:24 why does the left engine look different from the right. I mean the spiral in the middle can be seen in the right engine but on the left all you can see is a white blob. Are they two different engines or something?

  • @KillerKlient

same engine probably a different cone, from maintenance or something. It could also just have more dirt and grime

  • It's a beautiful aircraft

  • Your vid is a favorite on Riga

  • Nice video

  • Boy does she howl, Pratt and Whitneys?

  • Back in 2005 as I came back from Iraq, I took this plane from Kuwait to Frankfurt, and from Frankfurt to North Carolina non-stop.

  • Sure comes a lot of crap out of those engines. But the sound is lovely! Thanks

  • wow that acceleration :O <3 love the md-11

  • Took World Airways and this style plane back and forth to Kuwait. Good Airline and service. It appears the US goverment is their number one customer.

  • i heard that the DC-10 and MD-11 can fly comfortably with just its two wing engines so i dont understand the point of the tail engine

  • @ghettoperson257

back in the days, planes must have had a minimum of 3 engines for long haul flights over the big oceans, so in case of engine failure there would still be 2 remaining. but nowadays engines are more reliable so planes like the a330, b767, b777 can easily cross oceans with 2 engines

  • @MKhsv oohhhh thanks

  • @MKhsv I hate flying- especially over oceans. No matter how many engines a plane has. It shouldn`t be allowed !

  • @valarmanwe

it shouldn't be allowed? ah yeah....

how much do you know about planes? not a lot, i guess

  • @MKhsv i also heard the 757 can fly comfortably over the ocean too Continental Airlines uses their 757s on their Manchester-Philadelphia route

  • @ghettoperson257 i would assume the tail engine helps to take off since its an old model

  • @echoshane i guess so too

  • that climb rate is insane

  • 2:41 Engine strain (exhaust puff) from hydraulic motors for gear.

  • @beaman220 well it is an old plane so that is bound to happen

  • We flew this plane to Korea and I could not believe how many people were on there. It was packed!

  • This video is a favorite on Korea, North

  • I love how mean it looks from the front!

  • where was this plane going to?

  • beautiful!!

  • I'm a big aviation enthusiast but I got a a question and please don't get mad at me I just want to learn this but whats the difference between a DC-10 and a MD-11? All I know is a KC-10

  • @BrandenTheAviator The MD-11 was in may respects a stretch version of the DC-10 (100,000lbs heavier), although it was a 2-man cockpit versus the DC-10's 3. This aircraft was slowly phased out after Boeing purchased McDonnell Douglas in favor of the Boeing's 777, which is 100,000 lbs even larger with only two engines. My father was an airline pilot (Captain Hap Hazzard - no lie) in the 70s and flew the DC-10.

  • @cshazzard As though the DC10s weren't big enough. Neither the DC10 nor MD11 look right to me, that third engine looks almost like an afterthought.

  • @OlegKostoglatov the DC10 was designed with 3 engines in mind from the beginning.

  • @OlegKostoglatov What's interesting about the tail engine is that it has almost the exact same dimesions as the fuselage of a DC-3. I always thought that was a great demonstration of how far the age of flight had progressed. The engine is also positioned on a slight upward slant as tests showed that the nose of the plane would cut off airflow to an engine positioned level during takeoff. That said, the 10 was plagued with internal explosions in the tail engine during takeoff.

  • @cshazzard That was your fathers real name? HAHAHAHA

  • @mrceebees14 Yes it was. Was always fun to watch the passengers' expressions when his name was announced as their captain. I spent many trips as a kid riding in the cockpit of a DC-10. After takeoff on a trip from Mexico City to Chicago in '74, he showed me how to punch radio frequencies of ground stations (before age of GPS) into the auto pilot. For 3 hours, I used a map and flew the plane until 30mi. from ORD (with 3 pilots watching me). Some of the best memories of my life.

  • @BrandenTheAviator MD-11 is larger, more efficient engines, full digital two crew cockpit, longer range, quieter. the winglets on the wingtips helps reduce induced drag and hence improve aerodynamic efficiency.

  • i remember seeing one of these beauties at DFW

  • If you don't value your life, fly in a McDonnell Douglas airplane.

Nearly as many homicides committed as Josef Stalin.

  • I really wish MD and Lockheed had survived, I love jet airliners

  • Hey Guys, i am going to miami in next couples of weeks, and i can choose one of two tickets, one is flying with MD11 KLM,and the second one is B747 air france, which one is better? thanks for advise!

  • @danielslyk MD11 ANYDAY!!!!!!!!, they wont be in commercial service much longer anyway. take the oppertunity while you can!!!!

  • This is a fantastic takeoff video of a true veteran aircraft. Great job!

  • not first chice, thomas cook

  • @freddiewarrensmith1 not necessarily if you look up MyTravel Airways and Thomas Cook, both of their callsigns are "kestrel"

  • @ghettoperson257 sorry, i only just found that out :L

  • if its callsign is "kestrel 0123" then its firstchoice

  • Nothing quite matches the roaaaaawr of the MD-11...

  • Always the best from Mr. Lowe! Thanks for this beautiful "Kestrel" MD-11!

  • Fail in the video title. That is a DC-10. Only delta airlines flys MD-11s.

  • @hellview96x Delta got rid of their MD-11's a long time ago, the only airlines that fly them would be KLM, World Airways, UPS, FedEx, Aeroflot Cargo and Ethiopian Cargo

  • I also forgot China Eastern, Shanghai Airlines Cargo, Finnair Cargo also operate MD-11's as well. I'm sure a few others will add to the list.

  • @kalanike actually you are wrong, fedex only flys 747s, and delta still flys them MD11, I see them flying into midway everyday.

  • Comment removed

  • @hellview96x delta doesnt have MD-11s in their fleet any more and i live near JFK, a delta hub and if they did operate MD-11s i would be bound to see them but i dont plus i looked up the delta fleet and there are no MD-11s

  • ...also Saudi Arabian Cargo

  • @hellview96x first off shut up you do not know what your talking about that is an MD-11 a DC-10 doesnt have winglets and second off Delta got rid of their MD-11s in 2004 and the only airlines that operate the MD-11 is World Airways, KLM, Lufthansa Cargo, UPS and FedEx so hush plus i live near JFK Airport , a delta hub, and i dont see any MD-11s with them so get you facts right!!!!

  • what a beauty. I love these planes

  • dear world airways thank you for giving the plane for the movie Skyjacked

  • Didn't waste no time getting altitude, did he? lol

  • I love the smoke from the centre engine when the engines spool up

  • Awesome video! It sure didn't take long for it to become airborne! Love the sound of that power going down that runway! I also liked the conversations between the flight crew and air traffic control.

  • was there a reason for the extra amount of smoke emitted from engine #2 during throttle up? I have never seen that during takeoff before.

  • @yukun92 Planes that were made before the 90s and even 80s tended to blow smoke, so it's not uncommon to see on older aircraft such as McDonnell Douglas planes and some boeing planes.

  • @yukun92 well its an old planes so a lot of old planes do that

  • Wow, it doesn't wait around does it

  • /watch?v=KH0-dptspMA

  • turn you 2.1 or 5.1 surround system...2/4 of bass....and get some RUMBLE!!!!!!!!

  • I work with Worlds planes in tampa we get 277WA all too often, and when they leave here empty, we see some incredible take offs, last week we pulled 277 into the engine run up bay and watch it do some powerful engine run ups

  • amazing sound i love it!.

  • Comment removed

  • They look sound and smoke like pratt and whitney to me ?

  • another definition of the sheer power of GE CF6s

  • They (World) have had charter flights for us army families.. My dad payed $11.00 usd a seat from Detroit to Frankfurt, Germany

  • Beautifully shot videos... really appreciate the professional quality. So many video's are grainy and unsteady...

  • LOL ! 2nd engine is smoking a bit 2:08

  • cofirm you are a HONILEE ONE YANKEE departure

  • wtf ? one engine cone is bigger than the other one !

  • @Mrmartinnico one just painted different

  • DC-10s and MD-11s are pretty sleek looking airplanes.

  • thx :D

  • I'm blind too, and I love the sound of that plane. It really roars! Thanks.

  • Utaztam ezzel a szép MD 11-es madárral.......,fantasztikus!!!

  • This particular plane seems to have a higher power-to-weight ratio than most.

  • great job and beautiful video.Who did shoot the footage ? simon lowe ?

  • @deetjay1

First indication is the winglets... but the third set of landing gear under the centerline of the aircraft is the confirming feature.

  • @Enigma0614

Then can the MD version be considered a small improvement over the older DC?

  • @deetjay1 Yes it was a considerable upgrade.. the third set of landing gear increased the weight capabilities and the winglets increased the range.

  • @deetjay1 I am not sure if you are aware of this but the DC stands for Douglas Corporation, and the MD stands for McDonnell Douglas... this mod was incorporated after Douglas was acquired by McDonnell.

  • @Enigma0614 DC means Douglas Commercial

  • Brilliant, man! Thanks for posting...

  • Can't see the difference between the MD-11, and the DC-10...Got an expert out there who can educate me?

  • @deetjay1 Look again... Which one has winglets? That would be the most obvious difference, along with some others that aren't necessarily that visible...

  • @vxl788

Thanks...I'm an old blind guy, or I would have seen it...

  • Beautiful lift off. Great photo job too.

  • bloody good

  • i love the G force during take off!

  • Since when was Eddie Jordan an Manchester Tower controller?

  • N278WA

  • @superjta59 no its actually N277WA i saw it very close

  • @ghettoperson257 Oh, thanks! I'm subbing and sending a friend invite.

  • @ghettoperson257 I subbed.

  • @superjta59 thx i subbed to you too

  • @ghettoperson257 thx :D

  • Just Awesome to see a DC-10, what an amazing airplane, thanks for posting .

  • for 3 holer heaven its got to be AMS . sigh!!!!!!!

  • okay, it's operating for MyTravel, but why there was A320 from MyTravel

  • @wisnu1231 cuz it just so happened to be there!!! World Airways doesnt do scheduled flights its sort of like Luzair doing wet lease and ad-hoc flights

  • @ghettoperson257 oh, so World Airways is just does charter flights...................................i thought the hub for MyTravel is LGW

  • @wisnu1231 Gatwick is one of the hubs but Manchester is just a destination

  • I miss the trijets. Boeing and Airbus suck.

  • great video -

  • Uh, shit, what a sound!!!

  • is it operating for MyTravel?the callsign is "Kestrel", it's the callsign of MyTravel

  • @wisnu1231 yes it is

  • beautifull

  • Just love it how these things smoke and climb like hell :D

  • The Md-11 kinda looks like a Kestrel (type of falcon).

  • @scottjfrank oh you mean that cute little falcon-like bird???

  • I just love that straight up take off. Those planes were so cool!

  • 2:02 aww dude thats sexy as hell!!!!

  • what a climb!

  • the pilot sounds nervous

  • i love md 11 design , and the big window inside the cockpit.

and the back landing gears too.

    it has an ugly face

  • @goodguynamesical i kinda startet to love this face..

    its so special

  • i love mD11

  • Wow amazing.

  • Very Coolll

  • cool

  • That Good old MD11 smokie and sharp take off, classic just classic.

  • McDonnell, the best

  • love those exhaust trail... dont know why but i do.

  • MD 11 looks like a great white shark!!!

  • Nice job. smooth take off

  • amazing acceleration!

  • kestrel????

  • hey man nice vid, how do you make those videos having both sound from ATC and video of the plane on the ground?

  • Very powerful takeoff! Excellent!

  • controller: kestrel 0123 runway 23 left you're clear for takeoff zero eight zero degrees at 5 knots

pilot: uuhh clear for takeoff 23 left kestrel 0123

    eeeehhh-eeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ghettoperson257 ha ha nice

  • @ghettoperson257 I love you.

  • @TimTehPilot what?

  • i thought wolrd airways is a freight airline?

  • 2:12 POWWWEEERRR!

  • @SkyWestCRJPilot yea i guess so but it sounds like casserole but it might kestrel

  • Comment removed

  • @ghettoperson257 It's Kestrel. It says in the description that this flight was operating for MyTravel Airways, who's callsign in Kestrel.

  • @flyzapva yeah it is kestrel but the way atc said it, it sounded like casserole

  • super video and the sound is just so sexy :)

  • My Travel A321: Weeeeee! :)

  • European finesse versus American Power... I'll take power.

  • I saw this airlines in Dallas, Texas!!!! I got some pictures of tthose MD-11!!!

  • @lordzwaan you know which plane pops wheelies? a Boeing 727

  • so air traffic controllers call World Airways, "casserole"?

  • Este es un excelente avión, muy grande y con poderosos reactores, quisiera poder ser piloto de un MD-11.

  • The biggest baddest MD-11 out there.....with a nice smokey takeoff. Excellent footage. Thank you!

  • Holy crap! Have a look at the middle Engine when he gives power!!

  • look at the crap comeing out the engin man

  • That is a beautiful plane :-)

  • That plane went over my house the other day and I was speech less

  • This is a beautiful video of this plane taking off. I also like hearing the communications between the captain and ATC. Great job!

  • long live the MD-11

  • I think the problem on this airplane(both DC-10 and MD-11) is the wing size, they are too short for a plane of that size, they should make the wings longer.

  • @prjibaro1 There is no problem in case of DC-10. MD-11 has too small elevator to cut fuel costs, and it causes it to be hard aircraft to fly especially on approach.

  • omg look at the #2 engine at 2:08 theres a ton of smoke!

  • wow watching the thrust on the center engine, im surprised it won't rip off the tail fin.

  • @SteU4IA the tail was desgined to withstand the engine power

  • That's some serious thrust.

  • On new years eve 2010 I saw one of these at ATL or atlanta. it looked like the oldest most grosest plane ever. hoping the little car driving in front of it was taking it to the runway to take off and land in a dump

  • More Death 11 (MD-11), the improved Death Cruiser 10 (DC-10)

  • @TTDMFfreaknew Dude, you're obsessed. You need to familiarize yourself with aviation's history, and then you'll understand why the Douglas (and later Mc Donnell Douglas) designed machines have the world record for durability, toughnes and longevity. And perhaps you'll also learn to differentiate between accidents caused by design flaws, faulty maintenance and operational reasons....

  • @sobelou Death Can 10, Death Contraption 10, Daily Crash 10, Death Cruiser 10.

  • @TTDMFfreaknew Actually B707 has worse death rate than DC-10. After problems were fixed it has been actually safer plane than MD-11.

  • @TTDMFfreaknew now i see why McDonnell-Douglas called it a DC-10!

  • What is the callsign the RT is using called?

  • Whew look at her climb, she's a beast.

  • Look the after 2:97 that smoke comes from tail engine, Ou jeah!
