  • lol i like this guy

  • Stephen King did it again, and Kathy bates did it again too, THIS STORY IS AWESOME

  • "Fatass... lousy cookin'..." CRASH!!!

  • she should've stuck a flaming hot knife up his ass....

  • A man that does that to his wife deserves to get his balls cut off, but what she does to him later is sufficient enough

  • Now,that is one woman that new how to act out every scene like it was really happening, what an actress she used to be ; ) They don't seem to give her parts like that anymore, and I wish they would, she is my fav actress

  • @axlfoleyfanatic very true, she hasn't been given a challenging role in a movie for more than 10 years. Mostly she acted in comedy movies as a cameo or just one of the supporting actors. I think hollywood had forgotten how magnificent an actor she is.

  • Kathy Bates was the best actress in the 80's

  • Worst Oscar snub ever.

  • I jumped. God, that was freaky!

  • girl power!!!!

  • My parents quote this movie at each other all the time. The china pitcher to the head happened once to my great grandma and her brother in law, lol.

  • wow! how can she be something we all despise in the Misery film, to someone we're all rooting for in this number! always underating Kathy Bates!

  • 3 people have a fat ass and lousy cooking

  • She is AMAZING O_O

  • ....and look who finally ended up in the boneyard! LOL.

    LOVE this movie!

  • 1:59 WHAMM!!! <-- You deserve that, a**hole!

Kathy Bates is a brilliant actress.

  • KILL HIM

  • Oh my God!!! When he hits her with that piece of wood, you can FEEL it! Poor Dolores. I'm glad she paid his sorry ass back 10 fold. Joe's an all around bastard. I cheered when he got it in the end.

  • @DarkDreams420 yeah right on the lower back too in martial arts the kidney area is a sensitive spot and he uses a big thick peice of wood. Awful. her acting is superb!

  • fuck you joe!!! Fantastic Kathy

  • she is one of the greatest actors in hollywood today.....Love you Kathy ;)

  • That motherfucker had it coming in this movie!

  • Two of the finest character actors at their absolute peak. Brilliant!

  • The book was great, the movie was great and Kathy bates was AMAZING!!!! Can't come across actors like her anymore!!!

  • Psychology at it's best

  • Kathy Bates should have won an Oscar in this movie!! Incredible performance - bravo!!!!

  • ..ran that mouth of hers til she was all tuckered out.......WHAMM!!!! Guess what, Joe? I ain't tired anymore!" Loved Kathy in this one and David made a convincing wife beater. What a flick!!!

  • I've always thought Joe is kinda hot ..

  • @FakeFaced LOL. Actually, David was damn good in this movie as well.

  • Kathy Bates is my top favorite actress. I do not like may other actors/actresses. Most of them try to be so glam and fake. Kathy is also from Memphis, like myself. It is hard to believe someone with such great talent can come from a dump like this town.

  • She's good.

  • I love this movie. I wish my Mother would have seen it. My life could have turned out so different.

  • What a great movie! I was watching this scene last night, and when he hit her I got pissed for some reason. Not many movies have ever made me so emotional and drawn in. Kathy Bates (no matter how many times its been said) deserved an oscar. no, she deserveed 20 oscars.

  • Wow David Strarthairn totally transformed himself in this role! Definitley deserved at least a nom for best supporting actor for this role!

  • if it were real life , he probably would have killed her with that axe..

  • Guess what, Joe? She ain't tired anymore. "You do it again, and one of us is goin' to the bone-yahd." PRICELESS! Kathy Bates is a legendary movie queen.

  • One of the best films, ever! Kathy Bates. Jennifer Jason Leigh!

  • My ex husband was far more abusive. I forgave him time again hoping he would change, he never changed instead he developed more expertise. He appeared like a regular guy. A regular guy to the naked eye, but reality is he was a monster disguised as a regular guy. The Talented Mr Ripley closely captured my ex's personality. Very clever and very messed up. Fact is that since dangerous people don't wear signs saying "DANGEROUS" one must realize they MUST safely leave the person that harms them!

  • @womanbeing an accident womanbeing, can be an unhappy woman's best friend

  • @roreys123 I suppose that is true in the movies but not in real life. I will say though that if there were ever someone who deserved "an accident" it was my ex-husband!

  • This film is well done no doubt.

Young women should know that cruel crazy men can be handsome and intelligent as well. They are not all losers like this guy. Either way you have to accept you are with a man that will not change. You also have to accept he will destroy you if you do not find a way out . You cannot "fix" him and make him better. Giving more love does not heal this type of man. "Trying harder" only keeps you there in harms way. Do not let him persuade you to stay. It's YOUR LIFE!

  • now if only she would get her nice biiiiiiiiiiig hammer and touch his ankles in return! this movie is amazin'!

  • I've seen this movie a dozen times, and it still memorizes me. I read the book as well, and I actually think the movie (which is so unusual) did the book justice big time. The cinematography is stunning,, and of course, the acting is out of this world.

  • That is so epic

"This will be the LAST time you hit me. You do it again...... ones of us is going to the boneyard."

  • Brilliant performance, from a talented actress

  • I loved Kathy Bates' performance in this movie, but the movie itself wasn't nearly as breathtaking as the book. The murder scene was more amazing then I ever could have imagined, but they took so many of Vera Donovan's parts out of the story that she wasn't really even an important character anymore. And the whole plot twist that made the story so amazing was completely removed. Read the book if you haven't. It's worth it. ^^

  • @Dalthis555

Yeah, the movie I like it well enough, but it takes too many liberties. The book is to much better!

  • What a sick fuck! Pay back a bitch!

  • Misery is cool, But DC is way more important

  • " ... but is is the LAST time you will EVER hit me. You do it again, and one of us is goin' to the boneyard." So many women never find that life-saving fortitude that's made an example here. Since 1995, this one has remained a favorite I revisit at least once a year. David Strathairn leaves such a lingering villainous impression, that you need to check out 1992's "Passion Fish" to regain your equilibrium. In that one, he's totally charming and embraceable. Really.

  • That guy playing Joe does a perfect job at being an abusive monster.

  • I don't get it.Why the husband hit her?

He making her laugh, and she did,,,

  • Dam Joe Was So Mean To Her......

  • "fat-ass... lousy cookin'... WHAMM!! (vase broken over his head)

  • This is a 'stronzo',not a man.A man doesn't beat a woman not even with a flower.I feel Kathy is a wonderful person in her real life.

  • I think kathy's dolores claiborne is the most underrated performance ever!

  • This and a unknown little gem called 'A Home of Our Own' with Edward Furlong.

  • Simply amazing!

I love this movie and the whole story!

    Excellent!

I liked the book, too, but I didn't like how...well, how Stephen King it was...it took Joe forever to die and he kept climbing up the well to grab Dolores's leg...that's just too predictable. And then in the book, Dolores actually crushes Joe's head with a rock or something...I liked how in the movie, she was smart about it and wasn't directly responsible for his death...It makes her a more admirable character :)

  • OOH Kathy Bates should have been much more nasty looking, spitting out her words in his face....would have made her win an oscar award. I swear to it.

  • please read the book..they have done a wonderful job portraying this tale through the movie, but the novel itself is breathtakingly real and worth every penny to buy..nd read! i don't care if you are eleven or fiftyseven, the book is so worth just a few moments of your time! it really does explain so much more

  • kathy is awsome!!!

  • BRILLIANT ACTING PERFORMANCE!

  • Because he does such a good job making sure you do, if you need help to stop hating David Strathairn after this one, you need watch "Passion Fish" real soon afterward.

  • Or "We Are Marshall"

  • can't believe she didn't win an oscar for this.

  • Who cares about Oscars? You know what I mean?

  • @syphonia246 I agree. But she won it for her superb performance in "Misery". She deserved it.

  • Absolutely the best showcase for the considerable talents of Miss Bates. If you've never seen it, this film is one hell of a good ride. Too many good quotes to list.

  • Haha I never seen this movie b4 But I must say beings someone who lived threw seeing domestic violence growing up that was the best reaction i've ever seen. All that was missing was her axing him! lol

  • schlimm schlimm

  • Kathy bates is not dead

  • fuck off

  • der film ist sooo super

  • The best things I love about this movie, the quotes in it are very deep and intense like:

"Being a bitch is all a woman has to hang on to."

Honestly, something like this could actually happen, it's very realistic.

I also like the part when the little boy is riding past Dolores, he says, "kill anyone today Miss. Claiborne?"

She replies, "Not yet, but if I do, I know just where to start."

This is one good movie and a good book as well.

I own the book and the movie.

  • her best role by far

  • i love this movie. i know all the words.

  • ME TOO!!!!!!!!!

  • Man, Kathy is such a good actress. She's so sweet and kind in 'Fried Green Tomatoes' and 'Misery' is completely different.

    Thanks!

    Jude

    Oh My Dog

  • Kathy is just splendid!!!

  • kill HIM!

  • When I first saw this scene 10 years ago I wanted kill him there then, rightaway.

Now, I wish I could sit down and ask him politely why he does this. I wish I could ask him this simple question and hear his answer before I crush open his skull.

  • Best of the Stephen King books made into a movie...imho

  • I love this movie!!!!!Thanks

  • Not only the film, but Kathy Bates is underrated, she gave an Oscar worthy performance. She's so natural and real - I'm amazed.

  • The first movie I saw David Strathairn in was "Sneakers" where he played a really nice guy. I then saw him in this and it was a shock. I couldn't believe the same guy could be so convincing in two completely different parts. Seeing it now, I can't help but notice that he does overdo the accent a little. Still a good performance though.

  • @Sotnas Strathairn is a brilliant actor, definitely. I think the accent he does is a little over drawn because he's drunk most of the time and he's also slurring his speech. I thought he was spot on in this, and the back and forth between him and Bates is a tour de force to watch.

  • not to mention... UNDERRATED!!!!!!!!!

  • Fantastic film. Bates & Strathairn were brilliant in this scene

  • Thanks 4 the upload. I luved 3:10

  • the book was briliant i enjoyd it! I read it straight! the movie was also good but i prefer the dook

  • Kathy Bates is a freak in this movie. In a good way of course

  • Now I saw the second part of this film and I liked it but I would have understood it more if I saw the whole thing

  • Why did Dolores' husband hit her with the log? She was laughing before he did it. Did her laughing anger him? What was their conversation before he hit her- I didn't quite catch it.

  • He's a stinkin drunk

  • In the book he wasn't trying to make her laugh he had just walked in and she laughed at him thats when he hit her, but he was always hitting her in the book sense the honey moon of there wedding, in the movie they are just trying to make him more of a mean drunk then any thing else.

  • "one of us is going to the bone yaad"

another line in the movie i like..."is the raisins you call balls"

  • she shoulda put the axe in his head..punk bitch woman strength having weakling coward shadow of a man..

  • I remember seeing this in the theater. It was a packed Friday night. When she wacked him with the pitcher of milk, I, along with the other 300 people jumped about two feet of our seats. LOL Great stuff!

  • I always imagine what this look like when I was reading the book, and this is exactly what it looks like in the movie. But I have to say that Stephen King is very good.

  • Kathy Bates is brilliant in this scene. And David Strathairn is perfect casting - attractive (so you can see why she married him) but an utter bastard! Great stuff!

  • Love this movie.. And this is one of my favorite scenes in the whole film thanks for uploading it..

  • i'm not done reading the whole book but i got up to this part and just had to see if there was a video.not as i thought it would be.i don't like kathy bates as this character.they should've found someone else but i guess it's okay.LOL.yeahh but still not what i thought it would be.when Joe said get me a towel,i thought he said to loud and shouted to much.i pictured the him to say it in a low mellow voice and make it seem like he wasn't in pain.and the ice-pitcher.i didn't kno thats how it looked

  • How can you not like Kathy Bates.. With out her in this character I dont think I would have liked the movie as much as I did.. She rocks Misery and Dolores Claiborne are two of her best roles.. The movie rocked.. have not read the book yet.. how is it?

  • uhmm. kay dude i said i didn't like kathy bates as this characterr...not that i don't like her.

.. i go back to read the book every now and then but don't have enough time to finish it...so far i'm like at the ferry scene and i think just a bit passed that. it's pretty good tho.

once again..it's not that i don't like kathy bates..i didn't like the fact that she was the one to be playing this character...

  • THAT WAS SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!

  • One of is going to the bone yaaaaard!

  • BAM! love it! :D

  • They should had given Kathy an Oscar for that only scene.

    Superb.

  • Thanks for posting!

  • This is the best freakin movie of all time.

  • This is something my mother is capable of doing. one of the many best scenes in the movie

  • I've never forgotten this scene. Here she was laughing with him and then all of a sudden he belts her with a log in the back. So cruel to do that esp when a person least expects it

  • the guy who plays Joe sounds a little like Al Pacino

  • Kathy Bates was incredible in this movie. I don't know if she still feels the same way, but I read that she once said that this was the best performance she's ever done.

  • Well The Movie Films As Young Looking Dolores & Old Looking Dolores. While Filming, In Real Life, Did Kathy Bates Wore Make Up Of Beauty To Make Her Look Young Or Did She Wore Make To Make Her Look Old With Those Gray Hairs (Why She Young Or Old Back Then In 1995?)

  • she was in her late 30s when she did this movie. so the young delores is her natural beauty. and the old one is makeup

  • I remember the audience went wild during this scene..clapping and cheering..when he got his!!

I LOVE this movie..deffinately overlooked at oscar time..Jennifer and Kathy and the movie deserved nominations.

  • The book is a lot better, hooked from cover to back.

  • Powerful. Brilliant acting. Brilliant movie. They don't make 'em like that any more. "Dolores Claiborne", "Misery" and "The Shining" would be a great triple feature!

  • That fucking pig got what he deserved!

  • whoa that was intense when i read hit scene i thought you meant best scene

  • PIG! How dare he! Kick a woman!

  • not only can she take it she sure can dish it out, it's joe who can't take a whipping.

  • sad shitt

  • This was one great movie, not easy to watch but good!

  • Great scene.. I'm a firm beleiver that every could use a good backhand every now and then. But this guy had it coming. hahahhaha

  • creepy...

  • Years ago an aunt of mine told me her husband (my uncle) got drunk, right after they married, and threatened to beat her. She softly said, "You can do that...but don't ever go to sleep again." He was a kind and loving husband thereafter and they were married 60 years. That was her "boneyard" moment and it worked.

  • Haha, beautiful!! 8D

  • I was always a bit confused by this... Why did Joe hit her? Was this to show his unpredictable and undeserved crazy abuse towards D? He is laughing one minute and then hits her with a log 5 seconds later, for no reason! Was he taking out his embarassment about the pants, on her?

  • Well...umm im reading the book...and Joe doesn't intentionally show her...so he hits her...im confused about why they didnt do it the way it was from the book.

  • Sweetheart, abusive men don't need logic to do the things they do. They just are. "You're just a woman and you laughed at me." So WHAM. And in his mind she "made me do it." They are small little boys with small little minds disguised as grown men, cowards who most times wouldn't dare run up on a MAN. I think it makes them feel important if they can suck the life out a woman, and make her feel like dirt. Lol-Dolores ain't havin' it though.

  • i guess the character is an angry person, prob abused as a kid adn never was able to work through it so it gets taken out on someone else. perpetuating the cycle of abuse.

  • Watch the movie again. Yes, he hit her because of the pants, too, but that wasn't even half the reason. Remember all that happened before the pants. First, he comes home and the soda is warm. No big deal, but for Joe it is, then they get involved in a little discussion about the boats and the money. That's all Joe can take, so Dolores sees his pants, makes fun of them, Joe seems to follow her game, and when she turns her back on him, he attacks her. He's a coward, and looks like he's drunk.

  • Did anyone see little Ellen Muth, George Lass from Dead Like Me when she was a kid in the white gown? She is so adorable.

  • Please can you find when joe die?? and take that to you tube?

  • unfortunately, in real life, things are not so melodramatic and quickly resolved for abused mothers. most likely they will end up dead or worse. and so do their children. i wish more people would stand up for the real life victims in this horrid nightmare...

  • I'm assuming from your comment that you haven't seen the whole movie yet. If that's true then let me just say that there's a lot more to come in the story and that Joe's crimes go beyond simple spousal abuse. The guy's scum.

  • I love Kathy Bates... she is a fantastic actress, and she is a great role model, and I feel bad for her in Misery.

  • great scene great acting

  • Hey have any fellow Kathy fans seen her in Annie?

Did anyone notice that when hannigan and rooster are pretending to be annie's parents, they introduce themselves as ralph and shirley mudge, but later miss hannigan calls him paul?

i just thought it was odd that there was no explanation.

i'm a huge kathy fan and i was just curious if that "slip of the tongue" was any sort of reference to her amazing movie, Misery. maybe i'm just paranoid.

Help me out if you can! :)

  • lol ya i did. I love her to death!

  • Yes,kathy's hubby was molesting their teenage daughter. she wants to escape with her daughter with the money she's been saving, but joe stole it and used it for poker and beer. kathy talks to her boss, who encourages her to do what she did and kill her hubby, but make it look like an accident. kathy confronts joe when he's drunk and he gets violent with her.she runs and he chases her. she jumps over the well and he...doesn't.

she didn't exactly kill him. at least not with her own hands.

  • Kathy Bates is a brilliant actress.

  • is this the mocie where the husband was molesting his daughter and the wife threw him in a hole??

    Someone tell me the plot

  • this movie is so cool!

i love the scene at the end where she gets joe to fall down the well. could you put that one on YouTube?

i love to watch that scene over and over!

    kathy rocks! :)

  • Thanks 4 watching. I will put the scence soon.

  • She is a phenomenal actress. I prefer her in drama though. Waterboy was funny I must admit!

  • I LOVE this movie!

    Kathy is soooooooo amazing!

glad her hubby final got what he deserved. jerk.

What a woman! You go girl!
