I adore this piece. From what I read, Mahler was dying when he wrote this and asked that it not be published. Sounds to me as if this is almost not for human ears! Hearing the joy and struggle of death and leaving this world and body. Especially when that violin note is held for so long - sounding like the flat lining of the heart on a monitor at the end of life. Oh the glory of life, and death, in this music. So profound.
Thank you very very much for uploading this full scale video. To my mind Maestro Inbal is the best living Mahler conductor, and that Concertgebouw-Orkest is also best fitted for Mahler. I've attended Philharmonia (London) and TMSO (Tokyo) concerts conducted by Inbal before, but the combination here is new to me. How I wish I'd been there!
@xapaga1 i don't know if i'd say he's the best, but he's definitely good. there are some very good conductors out there; we are lucky mahler is getting so popular right now
