I'm sure your attack on the middle class, public and misleading lies, and lack of respect for the dignity of the people will earn you a high place in heaven.
The NEA to double union dues, i believe Article 10 and Article 11 of the Constitution and bylaws it states “it is AOK with us if you donate our money for whatever you like and if you need more just take it and don’t worry”…or something like that. Some civics teacher in HS swore there was anyway…I think, maybe.
This attack on teachers right to have a voice in their working enviornments is going to have a POWERFUL PRICE to pay. Good teachers will go where they a seat at the table in COLLECTIVE BARGAINING. Without it, good teachers (and there are MANY) will flee states that do not supoort them. Then where are you going to find all of their replacements? Teachers are highly educated and trained. Who will teach calculus, chemistry, physics, algebra? People who teach these subjects or any other need a voice.
May 2, 1933. Hitler closed all trade union offices, confiscated all trade union funds and jailed the trade union leaders. He took away the worker's right to organize and negotiate.
Unions support political candidates that support unions? SHOCKING!
Next you're going to tell me that the American Chamber of Commerce only supports political candidates who support giving them more big business tax cuts.
This woman (for some reason) wants to vote for people who want to cut educational funding and the union (that has the other teacher's AND student's best interest at heart) disagrees.
I am another union teacher, married to another union teacher in Ohio working in Public Schools and we ABSOLUTELY AGREE with Thompson.. I burned that issue becasue of the years of MY family's money going toward a liberal agenda..money my family needs going to an agenda that we don't agree with.
But we need coverage like any other teacher and are stuck.
Its the Union that is the problem. THEY need to change. I am with you Jade Thompson! And Congrats on your husband's seat win!
@ctraini and when the Koch brothers take away your right to collectively bargain you will have no say in your working conditions. Go teach in a conservative "christian" private school. What? THey don't pay enough? Okay....because they have no COLLECTIVE BARGAINING rights. I have a hard time believing you're a teacher, probably a goon paid by the Kock brothers. Conservative values mean blame the middle class for the mistakes and greed of the rich.
@biggerturtle Incompetent teachers can be fired, even with tenure. There are steps in place in COLLECTIVE BARGAINING to help struggling teachers. If they don't improve or refuse to cooperate with the work improvement plan, they can be fired. Are you implying that the teachers upset about removing their voices and COLLECTIVE BARGAINING are incompetent? Thats about 95% of all public school teachers. This woman is in the extreme minority. If you fired them all, who will replace them? Pray tell?
@baritonebynight Real teachers in the public sector based on merit. and qualification Teachers should be paid more, like doctors and lawyers, but unions and government keep the best out. A teaching degree is a joke today; my cat could get one. Let the free market decide and our country's quality of education will rise
@biggerturtle How does one do merit pay, pray tell? Standardized test scores? Or what about the kid that refuses to do any work, its the teachers fault? Educators should have a seat at the table on how they are evaluated...hense COLLECTIVE BARGAINING. High school teachers have essentially two degrees...one in their subject/one in education...hardly a joke. Elementary ed folks training isnt' that difficult, but they have the hardest jobs of all teachers. Get rid of CB, and quality of ed sinks
@baritonebynight Teaching degrees are A JOKE today. Unfortunately by default the bottom of the barrel get those degrees and the system needs to be changed. Teachers should be compensated like doctors and lawyers based on merit and qualification; this is not so hard to do. It is no different than in the private sector - let the free market decide and the cream will come to the top. Unions inhibit and control through corruption and coercion; get rid of unions and quality will prevail
@biggerturtle Instead of ranting and repeating the same rhetoric over and over again, explain what you mean by "merit". How will one judge a good vs a bad teacher? Explain. Do you know whats involved in getting a teaching degree? A high school teacher essentially has a double major....like math and education....or chemistry and education....or music and education. Not easy things to do. Now please explain how merit pay is supposed to work? You can't because you dont' know.
@baritonebynight OK - Even though it's Youtube I'll be serious for a moment - I have a PhD in theoretical mathematics from a major ivy league college. I interview every week applicants for low to mid level positions in a major corporation. The quality of most applicants is abysmal. More than half cannot write a proper sentence let alone verbalize an idea or thought. They are the product of inept and incomptent teachers in a dysfunctional educational system that has been corrupted by the NEA
@biggerturtle With your alleged PhD, maybe you can take over to teach AP Calculus when the teacher leaves and goes to a state where they are allowed to have a voice. You'll have 50 kids in your class. Half will not have taken pre calculus and ten don't come to school on a regular basis. Your pay will be based on how many 5s you get on the AP test. I'll give the interview right now. Using a specific example, how would you teach about partial derivatives to all three learning modalities?
@baritonebynight I see your point but by attacking someone personally you undermine your argument. I disagree with your view on unions. Many good teachers are forced into the union and it does the education system no good. With senority rules and manditory raises schools are less likely to hire new teachers. While the experience of teachers with senority is valuable, this practice keeps new insight and motivation out of the process. Teachers should be rewarded for their sucess not their loyalty.
@shasta13stud Do you know what collective bargaining means? You don't think that educators deserve a voice in the work place? Without the right to collectively bargain, there won't be any new teachers because what highly educated professional will choose a career where they are not allowed a voice? I know many of us will leave the state if the Koch brothers and their goons take away our voice in the workplace. What you're asking has a POWERFUL PRICE that nobody will be able to pay in the end.
@biggerturtle Oh another thing. You won't get paid any extra money for your alleged PhD (even if you had it and proved it which I doubt you do). Your pay wouldn't be based on your qualifications and level of education, it would simply be based on whatever the powers that be decided that "merit" was. YOu have no voice in what "merit" means. How'd you like that job, huh "Dr." Teabagger?
@ctraini Enjoy it when you are working for pennies and the Koch brothers get rich off of you....perhaps they'll send you to the ranch before shipping you off.

When the unions are taken out of the class room, good teachers will finally be able to TEACH.
Unions ensure only BAD teachers/party hacks are rewarded.
