  • i agree as well u cant compare two very diffeent, and original entitys.

  • "the beatles arn't particularly talented"

Stopped reading after that, what a truly ridiculous statement to make. Dear me.

  • the beatles arn't particularly talented, they just make good songs. I can write a catchy good song with 4 chords. Johnny marr is a MUCH better guitarist, and Kieth Richards from the stones is also a much more talented musician. As for singing, in my view morrisey has a better voice but many other people would disagree. The Beatles had cheerful lyrics, while Morrisey wrote clever, and quite down lyrics.

Agreed, the Beatles were more popular and famous but not necessarily more talented

  • Foi muito legal. A tempos não ouvia essa musica. Eles sempre foram demais.

  • The Beatles are ridiculously overrated, The Smiths are better in every way, screw Lennon and McCartney, give me Moz and Marr!!!

  • The Smiths are better than The Beatles, by far. Reason being? They never grew mustaches and ended at the right time. Very great song.

  • vintage

  • I've played this video about 10 in a row already!

one of my faves by far

  • I fucking miss this band so much!

  • johnny marr is so effortlessly cool..

  • You're ridiculous.

  • good song, and the guitarsolo is great!

  • I love Johnny Marr in this video...marvellous gutarist!

  • one of the best combos ever... it would be great to be able to see them together again. i wonder if everyone were to boycott morrissey's music, would he finally agree to a reunion? it doesn't hurt to dream...

  • This song has a bad ass rhythm

  • So cool.

  • I want this green telecaster....

  • The Smiths, Joy Division and The Cure, in any order is all you need. Beatles too...Doors....Pink Floyd, The Killers....

  • Nice mention on Ian Curtis, but The Killers?? The Beatles? Really??? Right next to Morrissey? Listen to Andi Sexgang or Clan of Xymox, now those bands deserve a name next to the smiths.

  • i agree about the killers, but the beatles, honestly ? i wouldn't take german darkwave over them, much as i like clan of xymox.

  • I would. lol When I listened to The Beatles, I couldn't help but sigh and ask myself why they became as epic as they did...then I remember it's cos they did it first, which is respectable at best. Two artists who I would brazenly choose over them are Bauhaus and Andi Sexgang, who happen to have the greatest music and lyrics in my opinion.

  • again, fair enough when it comes to bauhaus although i still have no idea who andi sexgang is :p

still it's really hard to pass judgement on the beatles, considering the variety of their catalogue

    ehh it's really subjective i guess (:

  • If you like Murphy (Dali's Car, Bauhaus) you should indeed check out sexgang, though some people get put off by his voice, which happens to be one of those things you either like or don't like. On another note, I can't help to wonder why the tongue face is facing right, but your smiley is facing left... :'(

  • lol it's just habit to use the backwards smiley (: because on forums etc. the normal smiley :) will turn into some godawful emoticon.

i'll have a listen to sexgang. just don't compare the killers to the beatles again k ? ;)

  • Yeah alright I'll give you that. Modern music can't hold a candle to older stuff.

  • 'I'd like to drop my trousers to the Queen' Love it!

  • no one sings the word 'town' quite as well as Morrissey

  • this song in particular is one of the most amazing i ever heard, everything is perfect and total!!

  • i <3 the smiths

  • love love love

  • is it true marr has six fingers

  • He is the best!

  • ???

  • "When I'm lying in my bed, I think about life and I think about death... And neither one particularly appeals to me."

  • "the poor and the needy are selfish and greedy" you just know thats what the royal family thinks about the unwashed masses dont you??? they are an awful, cruel pack of wankers arent they...

  • andy roukes's bass is fantastic.... he is so underrated.

i remember watching this on the day it was broadcast and i haven't seen it since thx so much for posting i am so happy to see this.. morrissey looks good against the green backdrop

  • Love the "Keef" style ciggie hangin' outa Johnny's mouth! He looks the business..Moza too of coarse! But Johnny? Fucking cool as! Ace guitar slinger extraordinaire! Peace to all in cyberspace! xxx

  • Moz looks amazing in this video! :D

  • Morrissey and Marr, the greatest fucking duo ever!!!

  • and if the day came when i felt a natural emotion, id get such a shock id probably jump in the ocean

  • damn, thats a dirty guitar!

  • Their haircuts are pretty complicated, but no one looks cooler than these two in this video. Only James Dean looks better smoking than Marr.

  • johnny marr is the epitome of cool in this video...

  • My thought excatly!

  • i think even the most fervent anti-smoker would have to admit Marr looks pretty cool smoking here...

  • My favorite is Headmaster Ritual. That song is fucking out of this world.

  • Agreed.

  • ????Barbarism Begins at Home?? Rusholme Ruffians??? There are so many "Best Songs" from the Smiths!

  • The front of mozzas hair looks like a disfigured walnut whip =D Still, it's a great song from a great band.

  • I would love Mozza even if his hair WAS a disfigured walnut. Maybe it would make him more approachable, because to me he's a demi-god.

  • Wow! what about "this charming man", "the queen is dead" and "What She Said"???

  • johnny marr looks so cool in this video

  • oops trousers, great song ,

  • i would like to drop my trosers to the queen too,

  • I think about life and I think about death and neither one particularly appeals to me... who would have thought! fucking brilliant.

  • thats brilliant

  • love this video man!!! has to be my favorite!!!

  • Still love this after all this time...

  • I think this is one of Marr's best melodies while with The Smiths.

  • Morrissey e' sfacciatamente british!

  • marr is the coolest guy ever.

  • He's God

  • 1. The Smiths were the first 'indie' band (as opposed to new romantic, punk/new wave leftovers.) Whilst unique I think Pixies, Radiohead, even REM early , have done comparable things too.

    2. Name another song with one word for a whole line: par-tic-u-lar-ly

    3. Ends on a fantastic Em7 (song in key of Bm)

  • Sorry, ends on G. Neat.

  • Well actually G(D) I guess.

    I've been drinking again.

  • i want to know, what would be an unnatural emotion?

  • Not that i'm qualified to answer this but. I think he's talking about emotion vs. rational thought process or a sense of second quessing...being in ones head instead of just letting an emotion pass without having to justify it understand it...i don't know. At least thats what it means to me when I think having a hard time having a natural emotion. an unnatural one might be one that your mind could justify rationally? I think i've had unnatural emotions....

  • And when a train goes by

    it's such a sad sound.

  • muy bueno

  • que buen video esta hermoso

    k buena musica x favor

  • "And when I'm lying in my bed, I think about life and I think about death. And neither one particularly appeals to me."

Most underrated smiths lyric. This song is pretty funny, but you can't help believing what Morrissey is singing.

  • i think nearly everyone has felt that way at one time or another. morrissey does a great job of singing complete nonsense that everyone can relate to. makes you take a second look at your own emotions--it's silly when he sings it, and it's silly when i think it, but i think it nonetheless.

  • every sensible child will know what this means... I'm needy, I'm greedy... Very very cool

  • the poor and the needy are selfish and greedy on her terms

  • i always thought it was "in her eyes" for some reason, thank you!

  • this song makes me laugh so much

  • This is absolutely classic! They don't even look like something styled from 1984. The Smiths were just so alternative back then. Totally apart from the pack. Moz is my poetic hero, and Johnny (with his classic vintage green Tele) is my guitar hero.

  • I'm quite envious of Marr's Telecaster in this video.

  • great guitar, but i must admit i am quite envious of anything being gently caressed by a young johnny marr

  • I agree, haha. Well, in that sense we'd have to be envious of Morrissey as well and we won't even go there.

  • Hells yeah. That green Tele is the bomb. If I had some bread, I would run out and find that myself. Do they even make those anymore?

  • G E N I U S

  • Its amazing how the smiths are as utterly potent 21 years after they split up, classic tune, amazing band.

  • The cigarette hanging out of marr's mouth is classic! He can still play the hell out of that guitar while casually smoking...great!

  • This song is pretty much the story of my life. As is ever Smiths song. And Morrissey is a total babe in this video.

  • great song BEST ALBUM! well i wonder utterly, utterly fine!

  • damm good tune

  • I love that song.

  • Coolest thing I've ever seen. Hands down. Meat is Murder = THE BEST SMITHS ALBUM. Every track on it is genius, particularly this one and the criminally underrated Well I Wonder...

  • yeah!!!

  • LOL Mike and Andy "producing" Moz and Marr... how funny in a Moz kind of way..

  • "..and when i'm lying in my bed, i think about life and i think about death, and neither one, particulary appeals to me"

  • "...and if the day came when I felt a natural emotion, I'd get such a shock I'd probably jump to the ocean..." -_-

  • amazing video and love the song.

    x

  • mozza u absolute god of sexiness ...

  • Soo coool

  • me three i freakin love Moz

  • I didn't knew this video. And it's so amazing to see Moz and Marr so young and cool... and all the early 80's stuff such as the big headphones, the recording tape, and the funniest one: Marr is smoking in the video/studio, which is an impossible thing to see today with all the smoking forbiden laws! :P

  • i worship morrissey!!!!

  • Thanks for posting this amazing video. One of the best songs ever!

  • Thanks for this amazing video. one of best songs ever!

  • This song is so funny and clever, I love it!

  • "nowhere fast": reason #437 as to why i fell in love with morrissey//the smiths.

  • i looooove them:) love this vid, thnk you!

  • "And when i'm lying in my bed, I think about life and I think about death. And neither one particularly appeals to me..."

    Sooo true.

  • One of the best, and my favorite Smiths lyric! I just saw Morrissey at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NY, love, love, love him and still is everything and more as time goes by!

  • Definitely one of my favorite songs by them. It's also one of my most favorite songs ever. It's simply brilliant all-around.
