the beatles arn't particularly talented, they just make good songs. I can write a catchy good song with 4 chords. Johnny marr is a MUCH better guitarist, and Kieth Richards from the stones is also a much more talented musician. As for singing, in my view morrisey has a better voice but many other people would disagree. The Beatles had cheerful lyrics, while Morrisey wrote clever, and quite down lyrics.
Agreed, the Beatles were more popular and famous but not necessarily more talented
one of the best combos ever... it would be great to be able to see them together again. i wonder if everyone were to boycott morrissey's music, would he finally agree to a reunion? it doesn't hurt to dream...
Nice mention on Ian Curtis, but The Killers?? The Beatles? Really??? Right next to Morrissey? Listen to Andi Sexgang or Clan of Xymox, now those bands deserve a name next to the smiths.
I would. lol When I listened to The Beatles, I couldn't help but sigh and ask myself why they became as epic as they did...then I remember it's cos they did it first, which is respectable at best. Two artists who I would brazenly choose over them are Bauhaus and Andi Sexgang, who happen to have the greatest music and lyrics in my opinion.
If you like Murphy (Dali's Car, Bauhaus) you should indeed check out sexgang, though some people get put off by his voice, which happens to be one of those things you either like or don't like. On another note, I can't help to wonder why the tongue face is facing right, but your smiley is facing left... :'(
"the poor and the needy are selfish and greedy" you just know thats what the royal family thinks about the unwashed masses dont you??? they are an awful, cruel pack of wankers arent they...
andy roukes's bass is fantastic.... he is so underrated.
i remember watching this on the day it was broadcast and i haven't seen it since thx so much for posting i am so happy to see this.. morrissey looks good against the green backdrop
Love the "Keef" style ciggie hangin' outa Johnny's mouth! He looks the business..Moza too of coarse! But Johnny? Fucking cool as! Ace guitar slinger extraordinaire! Peace to all in cyberspace! xxx
Morrissey e' sfacciatamente british! Non so se abiti ancora ad Ostia, ma se cosi' fosse potremmo organizzare una spedizione per un breve avvistamento!
1. The Smiths were the first 'indie' band (as opposed to new romantic, punk/new wave leftovers.) Whilst unique I think Pixies, Radiohead, even REM early , have done comparable things too.
2. Name another song with one word for a whole line: par-tic-u-lar-ly
Not that i'm qualified to answer this but. I think he's talking about emotion vs. rational thought process or a sense of second quessing...being in ones head instead of just letting an emotion pass without having to justify it understand it...i don't know. At least thats what it means to me when I think having a hard time having a natural emotion. an unnatural one might be one that your mind could justify rationally? I think i've had unnatural emotions....
i think nearly everyone has felt that way at one time or another. morrissey does a great job of singing complete nonsense that everyone can relate to. makes you take a second look at your own emotions--it's silly when he sings it, and it's silly when i think it, but i think it nonetheless.
This is absolutely classic! They don't even look like something styled from 1984. The Smiths were just so alternative back then. Totally apart from the pack. Moz is my poetic hero, and Johnny (with his classic vintage green Tele) is my guitar hero.
Coolest thing I've ever seen. Hands down. Meat is Murder = THE BEST SMITHS ALBUM. Every track on it is genius, particularly this one and the criminally underrated Well I Wonder...
I didn't knew this video. And it's so amazing to see Moz and Marr so young and cool... and all the early 80's stuff such as the big headphones, the recording tape, and the funniest one: Marr is smoking in the video/studio, which is an impossible thing to see today with all the smoking forbiden laws! :P
One of the best, and my favorite Smiths lyric! I just saw Morrissey at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NY, love, love, love him and still is everything and more as time goes by!
i agree as well u cant compare two very diffeent, and original entitys.

The Beatles are ridiculously overrated, The Smiths are better in every way, screw Lennon and McCartney, give me Moz and Marr!!!

The Smiths are better than The Beatles, by far. Reason being? They never grew mustaches and ended at the right time. Very great song.

again, fair enough when it comes to bauhaus although i still have no idea who andi sexgang is :p
still it's really hard to pass judgement on the beatles, considering the variety of their catalogue
ehh it's really subjective i guess (:

lol it's just habit to use the backwards smiley (: because on forums etc. the normal smiley :) will turn into some godawful emoticon.
i'll have a listen to sexgang. just don't compare the killers to the beatles again k ? ;)
