@alrispoli It's just because they're sodium vapor lamps, so they actually flick on and off at 50-50 Hz in sync with the mains frequency. It's too fast for the human eye to see, so in person it looks like they're on continuously. But with a camera, it gets out of sync with the camera's frame rate and you can see the flicker. Some pro-quality digital cameras have software to correct for this, but those are really expensive.

not sure, all digital cameras seem to have problems with platform lamps in film mode I find!
