00:16 look at the black level of the omnia, it blends inn with the blacks of the bezel. Really bad theres awful banding. Ill have to wait for another wp7 with amoled.
I dont know what this super nice banding is that youre talking about, Ive not seen any of these phones in person but it looks to me like lack of colour depth on the samsung compared to the trophy. Looks like the difference between 16 bit colour and 32 bit colour, which makes no sense givin the screens in use.
@mintydog06 Agreed, it looks like a software/driver issue. That's unless they went for some ridiculous 1980'sdisplay interface incapable for transmitting more colors. I've not heard that the AMOLED is somehow color depth limited.
Another theory is that they are saving cost by putting poor color quality displays in the devices then dropping the color depth and using some poor/naive software translation to try to fix the colors (could explain the DeltaE).

The Color LOOKS amazing on the SAMOLED screen but they are in fact not good at all. They are vivid and everything which makes it look "better" and some people ( I do ) prefer it that way but the DeltaE is 20 which is pathetic. Except the blacks EVERY SINGLE colors on the Omnia is not right
@RalenSanis Absolutely! I don't the blue sky in my photos look slightly violet. Future smartphone review better test the colors with an screen calibrator.

Despite the pentile matrix is at fault, does that really spoill the fun of the Super Amoled? Does it make the device worst that others with LCD or SuperLCD...

@dresstoimpress Unfortunately it doesn't. It has exactly the same TFT LCD panel as the HD2, EVO 4G, Desire HD etc... Sony doesn't produce 4.3" SLCD panels.
I'd need to see the original image to decide if the pentile matrix is at fault. It could be that those cheap TN LCD's aren't capable of showing that many shades of gray.
@j3ff86 The original image of what ? You do realize that it's the other way around here? It's the Super-AMOLED who isn't capable of properly displaying the color gradients because of its PenTile Matrix.
@MobileTechWorldTV the original image meaning a screenshot from the in game menu. That way I could view the raw image on my Cowon S9's non-pentile AMOLED and my TN & IPS LCD monitors, to see if the banding is actually present in the image itself and not the result of the subpixel arrangement.
