  • It's the perfect clash of what was to come and what was happening.

The vocals are totally 60/70's and the instrumentation is 90's +

So in love with this insanity.

  • Strangely compelling...

  • For some reason this reminds me of Thom Yorke...and Portishead.

  • Fabulous!

    Thanks for posting.

  • This is amazing. We still haven't caught up to this. And won't until people get rid of midi files.

  • Saw them at the electric circus in nyc back in the day.Talk about doing your own thing. Ihear EARLY pink floyd

  • @hispire1 And Soft Machine!

  • DMT is a hell of a drug.

  • I can see where the band add n to x get there influences from

  • This song is the shit

  • lingers in the canyons of your mind, WAY after hearing it for the first time. In some ways 'a classic'!

  • wow what a trip.

  • Suena bien.

  • Strange. I like.

  • Wow! proto-kewl! Thanks for posting!

  • i saw them live about 3 years ago... the drummer is dead. for a time, simeon had a drummer fill in...... but now, he just plays solo with a drum machine- which, i guess, just shows how ahead of their time they were in the 60s.

  • @DanGoguen saw them live today

  • @qoakzm2qoakzm him*

  • Wow! I love how much the lyrics say the truth! We never take the time to do all the little things but in fact, how much important after all....

  • This is my scene, and I'm freaking out!

  • joanna newsom sent me!

  • @coyotewess Joanna Newsom unfortunately sent me here too

  • This did not come out in 1969. It bounced off a laser and flew into the backward. This shit is great!

  • noel fielding told me about these guys :) there really good XD

  • An epic of the beyond. The dynamic shift in the high register bass sneaks up and pummels a hard industial groove on a giant space hopper. The vocals comfort tortured oscillators with blunt pins.

The otherside of the album shows the picture that ended the bands career. BOEING (i think) upset at being depicted in aircrash carnage claimed damages that ruined the band. It's rumoured the drummer had his drums taken by bailiffs during a gig!

  • This is one of the best songs ever written!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is this the first electronica band? if this were new pitchfork would say "amazing...inventive...this is the future of indie electronica".

  • man this shit is amazing....1969? holy shit

  • How psychedelic. I particularly enjoy the slight time changes when the chorus reverts back to the verse, observable at 0:54

  • This is still one of the best synth songs ever in history and it still has a great danceable beat!

  • ridiculously ahead of its time.

  • 11th person to dislike.

  • @monicaslovesyou

    fuck you, brother

  • @generlove

i just wanted to have the balls to say it .

  • Can someone upload 'Water'? (The second track of 'Contact'.)

  • Loooove that crude electronic sound !!!

  • Here is a thing of similar texture performed on an instrument invented in 1928- if you use this search term on Youtube- Ondes Martenot /virtuosistic Formule by Thomas Bloch-TV 1999 - No drums- but you see the technology existed to make such music- There would've been earlier devices with similar capabilities- for example- the Theramin-

  • Sometime when I listen to SilverApples I think "why bother trying to make electro music in 2010 when these guys were in the 1960s and sound better than 70% of the modern electro acts....."

Such a crazy sound! Only further proof that Analog is superior.

  • Wow this is awesome.. I definitely see traces of this in modern bands like Animal Collective.

  • IS THIS ONE OF THE ORIGINS OF CONTEMPORANY ELECTRONIC MUSIC? KAOTIC START!!!!!!!

  • Ahead of their time for sure. Wonder if Clinic was influenced by them..heh

  • This song reminds me SO MUCH of the Talking Heads.

I love this band... just totally amazing.

  • wow...what drugs do you have to be on to appreciate this? ha

  • @angelabroful

none at all ya sonofabitch! :D

  • this is pure and wonderful

  • My god, these guys where a million years ahead of their time....

  • such a powerful song,

i love that combination of ideas.

    3-6 ocs sounds and drum.

  • wicked !! very fried......i dig it deeply...

  • your the fool that said silver apples sucked on a silver apples page. if your fed up just stfu

  • I don't know why but I'm imagining singing dancing Disney cars/trucks! (TOTALLY FREAKY)honk honk

  • This is amazing

  • they suck compared to pink floyd during the 1960's, but I still like their intros

  • @Jukeboxheroswsprod sucked compared to floyd? stfu. everyone compares stuff with floyd and doors. just means you know fuck all about your own type of music. silver apples and CAN were and still are miles ahead of there time floyd were just a mainstream pshych band. and without sid it was pointless. go watch mtv or something

  • Comment removed

  • @malkiebroon because that's an intelligent response. oh wait, it wasn't. by the way, i hope you mean SYD as in Syd Barrett, the original lead singer to pink floyd... go learn something.

  • @Jukeboxheroswsprod lol two attempts just to say that? wow got his name wrong. go learn learn how not to be a cunt. wtf has silver apples got to with poptastic floyd?

  • @malkiebroon I don't understand what you're trying to do here. so far all i gather is that you want to show everyone on a website how much of an idiot you are. it's working, but i'm bored.

  • Listen!

  • petty quibbles.. tut tut

  • Cool track, the first I hear from this band although I had heard about them. Apparently Suicide were big fans of the SA.

    Thanks for uploading it!

  • yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ aguan77e silver applessss =)

  • @horsex5

    HAHAAHAHHAHAHAAHA!!!

    you are a tool.

  • @BobSeger1981 Just my opinion man, no need to call me a tool, I doubt you would do it in person.

  • @horsex5

then you doubt wrong - Silver Apples RULE!

  • @BobSeger1981 what a cool dude you are

  • @BobSeger1981 Sliver Apple is undeniably awesome though.

  • Yeah i just checked it out, the original's much better.

  • Comment removed

  • @BobSeger1981 you are mean and obwioslu you belive in truths that back you upp. that sickens me

  • @BobSeger1981 and also, if something rule, don't you become it's tool? or does rule everythig but you?

  • awesome sound!! wish i had this album!!!

  • @TheRydawg1981 Don't just wish it; buy it. However, the first and third albums are even better! yeah

  • forgotten geniuses

  • ThI can't believe I've never heard this until now

  • pretty cool

  • I only heard SA first time yesterday. Now I'm doing some catching up and nothing has disappointed me yet. Marvellous stuff

  • Listening to this very very high is something.

  • pretty cool track. but I don't think I'd listen to this on psychedelics tbh

  • @sfurner yea i agree. interesting tune, but it would be way to much of an odd buzz in the psychedelic world.

  • I never believed that I could get.. addicted.. to this kind of music.

    Totaly Amazing.

  • One of my favourite little things. GREAT!

  • Like,totally!!!!!

  • Very good glad you uploaded it!!!! Thanks!!!

  • HA! you must be a music critic - AND a poet! HAHAHA!

  • No synths back then just HP ocillators

  • to badd buddy they had synths

  • Check out the schematic of The Simeon. No Synths at all. Just an array of HP audio ocillators, Wha Wha , Echoplex, and 2 Maestro tone controls, shortwave radio and switches ( telegraph keys)

67-69 only a few synths were available and most of these were in university labs

  • @ immasuperninja

I think you are thinking of 'organs' - it's OK buddy, it happens.

  • @BobSeger1981 they are simply analog?

  • @BobSeger1981 actually it is a synth, albeit one he made himself with telepgraph switches instead of keys.

  • @BobSeger1981 actually it is a synth, albeit one he made himself with telepgraph switches instead of keys.

  • @Foymaster

I know its a synth that Silver Apples used - I said other bands back then mostly played organs - NOT synths.

  • @Foymaster His name is simeone he calls his synth the simeone your right it was a non keybourd synthesizer with telegraph keys and oscillator dials screwed to a board like lionel trains craig anderton of the mandrake memorial had one he had made out of a stenograph machine this is before keybourd sythesizers then they were keyboard synthesizers but they werent polyphonic walter carlos made polyphonic recordings with multitrack recording swithched on bach the biggest selling classical record

  • @spacepatrolman now thats what I call a proper comment, a man who knows his stuff, thanks.

  • @maclennan73 thank you, silver apples was an opening act for buddy rich in greenwich village which was kind of strange

  • @spacepatrolman What Bernard Buddy Rich the American jazz drummer?! how the hell did somebody manage to arrange that? thats more than strange!

  • @maclennan73 im not 100% sure its true it could have been that herbie mann was the opening act and silver apples was across the street drunk people walk in and out of jazz bars and get confused buddy rich was the opening act for ten years after at the fillmore east and had to play a beatle song cause they crowd kept yelling alvin

  • those synths are fucking monstrous

  • Holy shit what a cool track! Waaay ahead of it's time.

  • FAR OUT! GREAT,SIMPLE but COMPLEX. Went to Quintano's H.S. with drummer Dan.PEACE&LOVE,FRANKIE CARR,THE TEA COMPANY@YOUTUBE

  • still sounds ahead of its time!

  • Has anyone heard the Rocket From the Crypt cover of this song??? That's what led me to Silver Apples!

Totally different sound though - I'll upload it if I get a chance!

  • I just uploaded it!

  • Love the synth. SO many groups from late 60s were under-rated. I was born in '71 so I'm discovering most of these, little known bands on Youtube.

  • awesome

  • we thought it was strange back then . . . and it still is! But I'm amazed someone else has posted this 'classic'!!

  • well. its like a drill in the head - but still very good !

  • zappa would have mocked this, but i love it!

  • Really, because I think Zappa sucked.

  • Dude, harsh...but I thank you for posting this jam anyway.

  • I agree Zappa was a childish rod. At least in my opinion and I own a few of his albums...never understood the Godlike status people assign him. Why?

    Anyways Silver Apples rock.

    Occilations ossilations..Oxxilacions.

  • Zappa was just a goofy novelty musician.

  • Comment removed

  • Ten years before Throbbing Gristle or Cabaret Voltaire.

    Hmmmn...

  • mind blowing proto synth band

  • wow...just discovered this now!!!!

  • The main loop through out this song is not unlike something that Hank Shocklee of The Bomb Squad would have produced for Public Enemy! Silver Apples were definitely pushing that experimental envelope ahead of their time. Great stuff!

  • @cyphersum If you're referring to the drums, it's not a loop. There was very little in the way of looping going on in '68. This was an actual drum kit actually played by an actual person...Danny Taylor, one of the two guys that were Silver Apples.

  • @WinterPlanet I'm keenly aware that it's not a real 'loop'. I'm referring to it as a loop because of it's looping characteristics. My original comment was never meant to imply that a great drummer was not behind the rhythm. I'm simply pointing out that this song has a strong loop-like quality... evidenced by Danny's tight drumming. Cheers.

  • Wow! Very interesting! this is sooo far ahead of the curve. Were they friends with Zappa?

  • i dunno about Zappa but they hung out with Jimi Hendrix, and Danny Taylor, the drummer, played drums for Jimi for a few shows i believe.

  • Incredible and extremely innovative!

  • the label got in trouble with Pan Am for the back cover of this album

  • Rick James! Just kidding: this is great.

  • pre suicide - great stuff. simeon rules
