i was just there last week and had some blowfish sushi.. the best sushi ever. i played 2 games of giant chess but someone stole one black pon and one white pon =\
The first game wasn't bad, and I would have done the same. That end usually takes forever and, unless one of you were to make another mistake on the big board, would have resulted in a stale. And nice offensive on the second ^.^
This looks like a lot of fun, especially on a beautiful day! Your conduct after the first match shows us that you are a very good sport, while the end of the video, I think, tells us that you are very modest: I think that you won! My second guess is that you killed your opponent in frustration!
Noooo! I watched all the way through and you're telling me the memory card ran out just before the pop shot?! Arrgh! (Er, pop shot is a chess term isn't it?)
Well you can see in the position towards the end I am chasing his poor little King around with my Queen and Rook and he has no other defenders at the time (besides an impotent pawn that I pinned then ate). He could and probably should have resigned much earlier.
Actually I would have liked to see the other player sobbing uncontrollably before committing ritual suicide. As per my previous comment, you may rightly conclude that I am somewhat inexperienced in the mystic ways of 'the chess'.
Here in Houston, they have a similar chess board outside a coffee shop (and outside The Black Labrador on Montrose). A friend and I played speed chess with the big pieces. It was a travesty of missed mates and blunders. But it was callisthenic.
Cudos on uploading both games. You didn't have to do that but you did. Two obstacles: seems to me it would be hard to see the entire board with the pieces that big and second the crowd noise and movement. Guess Bobby Fischer didn't show, was anyone searching for him?
I am actually also a reasonable blindfold chess player (maybe 1700+). So, the "can't see the board" excuse was really just that; an excuse. In truth it was more of an analytical blindness than a physical blindness that got me.
These days we "search for" Garry Kasparov. I don't know if he still has what it takes to regain the WC, but he's robbed the younger generation a chance to try their mettle against him.

I think you should have worn knee pads and a helmet. That would have been a good strategy.

Has the grocer taught you nothing? Tae Quon Fruit is not a weapon to be trifled with! These were mere innocents that knew not who they faced.

Sorry, didn't know Fischer had died this year. Fascinating individual.

So they just have a giant chess board in the middle of the sidewalk? Cool.

Paul. I'm disgusted. Your reputation is in tatters.
I hope to see you return to the board and recoup your previous greatness.
