  • Well done SIR!!!!!!!

  • can you play the same without the suit? maybe if I buy a suit like that I'll play awesome :D

  • 8:00 did i just unknowingly partake in acid?

  • @LuucasSK Years of practice. You can try Heel-toe which is 2 beats on each foot. 4 beats if you put them together and with months of practice it will sound like 16's and they will sound very nice and solid. Speed and endurance is gained over a year or more's had work.

  • Someone could please answer me how long does it take to gain speed and endurance ? I play double bass for 4-5 months and not good results :(

  • Nice tips Spikey! I have been playing for years. Only been using double for about 3 years, I can go pretty fast but these tips boosted me up way past my plateau. :D Allegeaon cover practices here I come Thanks again

    Skinny

  • what's with all the messed up endings

  • how long does it take to gain control and be able to play good?

  • good technique

cuze im starting to drum again

after an accident but this technique doesnt hurt on my legs

  • I can play as fast but my legs can't put power and do it for a long time at the same time... There is probably more than technique and practicing, you need to have good muscles.

  • Thanx man...ur a big ass help to me......and u kno ur shit..lol...and now i play faster...

  • i find you sound like terry bozzio sometimes! :)

  • I'm still waiting for the Swivel Technique video. Even without the Tigger suit

  • Nice Tigger costume.

  • Lars Ulrich needs to watch this video

  • if you tighten the bass head all the way, can it break???

  • btw for a deeper sound with the bass for like death metal do you like get a bigger bass or what?=) thanks in forward=)

  • The end was very scary...

  • the end of the video = mooooooooooooooo

  • This video is good, but there's just one thing:

The spring tension should be (fairly) tight, and we must wear shoes in such condition.

Why? Because it enables the beater to rebound much quicker, and we can then just push the pedal down again. And to thump the pedals down quicker, ankle motion is a must. May be weird, but that works for up to quick speeds. Even my cheap'o pedals can go fast with this setting.

  • This video is not good if you have a HEADACHE already.

  • GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT! haha

  • thx a lot

    buddy

  • good lesson. double bass is one of those things thats hard to get at first but when you get it you got it.

  • SO YOU WISH TO KNOW THE SECRETS i am spikey drummer

  • Cool shoos!

  • its definitely a tigger suit. T I DOUBLE G ERRRRRRRRR

  • That double bass was so sick that not even Jesus could cure it.

  • i like to think he doesnt know he's wearing the tiger costume ^.^

  • i see a

    hand

  • dude i love you....hahaha no homo bro but yea this helped me out really good because im innn a death metal band and yea you kno speed speed speed!!!!

  • The tigger costume made me laugh hella bad

  • Hey when i play fast i get quieter how can i stop

    This?

  • @hbk1995 You need more power. Try playing with a harder stroke. Also what are your pedal settings.

  • @wiirluvenit my pedal settings idk because every time i try to change the spring tension the spring comes off and the pedals are not even on the tension that well so that might be a little bit of the problem but i cant afford a good pedal right now. the faster i play the more power i loose so idk?

  • @hbk1995 Care to upload a video or something I can't really understand

  • @wiirluvenit yea i uploaded a video so you can see, not good quality tho

  • @hbk1995 I have that same problem.

  • is one tip dress as a tiger? can I be pooh?

  • umm . . . your in a tiger suit . . .

  • Hey thanks good tips

  • How do you tune your bass drum head, because mine keeps giving me weird sounds,nd i need to learn how go get like a nice thud, not a slap.

  • @hamlet1341 Google, my friend!

  • @louiscritchie I love you!

  • @hamlet1341 If you're getting a slap then you need to bring the tension up some. Spikey has his kick tuned higher than normal and has his springs as loose as they go because the head has more rebound due to it being tuned so high. Also if you are getting a lot of weird sounds you may need to muffle your kick or find a kick head that is pre-muffled I recommend any EMAD by Evans.

  • Are those pearl eliminators?

  • i like how hes in a tiger outfit

  • @ajam1035 Tigger.

  • @ajam1035 t eye DOUBLE GUH urr

  • @ajam1035 correction he is in a tigger outfit and the wonderful thing about tiggers is that he's the only one!

  • Are all the commenters drummers? :D Would be sweet

  • DUUDE!!

    i'm six and a half feet =|

how do you expect me to possibly sit with my legs higher than the ground??

and my kit won't even go that high :P

  • what the fuck just happened in the end?

  • Was that 64th note right there?

  • What the Hell is next to you,

    Great shit by the way

  • best DB tips I've seen of YT so far..nice job!!

  • The secret, get a speed cobra... and listen to what he said.

  • @GhostMonkey456 speed cobra, i had axis longboards and sold em and get speed cobras yesterday

  • Hey I have shoes like u but they green instead

  • the bass pedals don't matter its ur technique and how u set up only thing that matters is if u didn't keep ur pedals in good shape or there just old thats it

  • @tamakit123 you couldn't be more wrong. Theres many different types of pedals and all feel different.

  • Mother fucking trolls ruin everything for me

  • Good taste in shoes my friend

  • @drumnerd75 and fuzzy pants!

  • is it just me? or is that guy wearing a fucking tiger suit?

  • i wonder if knows that slenderman's just chillin next to him

  • hey pa! get the gun! there's another damn tigger in the lawn!

  • One question.. Where can i get that suit..?? Tigger is awesome!

  • Actually, triggers aren't necessary; They do help if you/your sound tech is uneducated or lazy.

Most of it has to do with the way your drum sounds acoustically. You should fill it a little with some sort of padding (pillows, a fluffy blanket, etc). Also, I've known people to put stuff like washers where your beater connects with the drum to add a click. Then, of course, tune your fuckin drum

Lastly, your sound tech can achieve clarity with adequate compression-it adds to the punch & kills decay

  • You seem so serious... Until I see your suit XD thanks, I'm gonna need this though

  • i go in and out of being able to do D;

  • Is playing double bass on an electric kit harder than an acoustic ? The reason I ask is because I hear of a lot of people having their bass drum heads really tight, giving the pedal a "rebound" after it hits the head. Since electric kits have a very soft rubber bass head, would that make double bass harder, so to speak?

  • @airsoftsniperM4 I think double bass is easier on an electric... Not only is there a lot of rebound (like a practice pad), but the trigger makes all the notes sound the same.

  • @fromallsides but triggering is also considered by a lot of drummers as cheating

  • @MrHolygod5 Even though it's not. Triggers help amplify the bass drum in big areas and such for when the drummer is playing blazzing fast DB. Without triggers it just sounds muddy and you can't really distinguish the individual hits.

  • @DrummerBoyCoy or you could just learn how to not make them so muddy. dont get me wrong triggers are great. I love them for recording so i dont have to take so many times, but otherwise its just an excuse to do less work and less practice. You can also make your bass sound louder and cleaner by stuffing it halfway, miking it and tuning a head right

  • @MrHolygod5 its really not cheating at all. for one, if you have triggers, you can hear mistakes 10x better. Secondly, would you rather hear individual hits with triggers or muddy without triggers?

  • @airsoftsniperM4 You compensate for this by experimenting with the tension of your pedals and different sorts of beaters. I'd imagine that there are also options to acquire rubber bass heads that meet your concerns, but it isn't necessary or even suggested.

So, it's only harder if you're set up to play a different kit other than the electric one.

  • @airsoftsniperM4

Some electric kits are designed to give similar rebound as acoustic kits, but for those that do not have such features I can imagine that it'd be harder to play double bass on an electric kit.

  • i have a chain drive instead of a strap drive, can i still achieve these speeds with the same amount of work?

  • dude you rock, I really enjoy your lessons, you may not take yourself seriously at least in how you dress, but you are an incredibily good communicator. Thank you so much.

    Casper

  • lol how can he be so serious, wearing his tigger costum ^^

  • this video and a vid from a george kollias clinic really helped me out with my double bass, thanks a lot man! cheers

  • who stands behind you? :)

  • @Gonzzzovsky his bodyguard.

  • Around 2:30 he talks about feeling comfortable with it. I just had got to that stage. He is right. You find that one sweet spot on your pedal and double bass becomes much easier. I also found that playing with shoes on helps me.

  • What? Why are people disliking? What's there to dislike?

  • i cant figure out how to play with my ankles... ive tried, multiple times, i just dont know how to do it lol

  • What about adjusting the cambers on the bass pedal? I have noticed that when adjusting the cambers on the pedal, it can make a HUGE difference in your speed and overall agility/stamina on blasts.

  • what type of pedals u got?

  • do you have to were shoes?

  • @falsehope444444 No ;)

  • im in the zone!! :D

  • anyone else seein the ghost next to him? O.O

  • @ShanghiKnight13 uhhh...where? O_O

  • @ShanghiKnight13 kreeeeeepy

  • @ShanghiKnight13 i bet it's his grandma, no joke.

  • @ShanghiKnight13 holy shit haha

  • okay, so i use a tama iron cobra power glide double pedal. for some reason, i cant seem to get speed or control, so that results in bad playing. i dont use a real drum throne, just an office chair. should i get a throne?

  • I HAVE A QUESTION SIR, can i do that on the not beautiful pedal? i mean is local pedal?????

  • Spiky is such a badass. He has had sex with that tigger suit on.....

  • Love the ending haha

  • the rev man best drummer ever!!!!!!!!! god rest his soul.

  • @175huskey I love him, but he certainly isn't the best :P

  • I can't get the double bass in sync with the snare and cymbal. And when I use ankle I don't get much power

  • why are you wearing this costume you lunatic cunt??

  • the ending is fucking terrifying D:

  • Its a drumghost in the corner!!!!

  • Would this be an alternative to the heel toe method it terms of getting that " machine gun" double bass sound?

  • Nice shoes dude

  • lol, his right foot is faster than me playing with both pedals LOL!

  • what pedals are those?

  • @hellnoob11 Pearl Eliminators.

  • @spikeydrummer

Does this work with heels down?

  • @StanandLogan probably not, who knows

  • i <3 u

  • it sucks my foot pedal has no spring tension thing.. i dont think... and i have a question.... is two bass drums faster than a double kick pedal.... and 1 more.... i have dixon double bass pedals is that good for speed or not

  • @whatthedeuce1000 in fact, you will have the sensation that double bass drums are easiers but you will not go faster, it's because of the differences of tentions in a "single pedal" against "double kick pedal", i think this is because of center of gravity , and the weight and the tention of the different hardware, when your using two same single kick pedals, you can adjust the tention better because they re doing the exact same sensations to you two feets.

  • @whatthedeuce1000 but with a double kick pedal (and as for you with no spring tensions) in first you ll find this is harder to keep controll and doing fast rolls, but they re better for daily practicing !!! (it's harder because of the tension of the left pedal which is working in a different way than your right foot, for me i remember when i used 2 bass drums, i was like, (wow this is easy, but after buying a double kick pedal it was like i never used a double bass in my life ....

  • @arrackattack thx i found the tension :)

  • How did you get Dim from A Clockwork Orange to make a cameo appearance at the end of your vid?

  • fuck man! i wish my double bass was that fast 0w0 but it will be eventually ^^ if i keep up my practicing lol

  • dude this helped alot. i already had loose pedals and the seat high like you said. but now i have to put the pillows and shit. thanks!

  • sick video dude, and that ending, bahahahahahaha!

  • i drum in a metal band called My Last Regrets (check us out on face book :D) and josh helped me learn a lot in every aspect, hes a nasty drummer and his solo stuff is awesome. hope you get more time to do some new vids man, much respect \m/

  • and y r u wearing a tiger suit and also the end was weird yet funny

  • and y r u wearing a tiger suit

  • i can't focus on any of these videos because furries enrage me...

  • miss may i - forgive and forget

  • i can't get above 120. but i've just started to train my anklemotion, would that help me out?

  • @TheDrumPirate For what, 16ths? I would say use ankle and leg motion at the same time. Will make the transition to tempos like 180-200 bpm easier. Anything above 220 (maybe even more like 210) will be all ankle motion. However, while different motion is good to explore, there's nothing better than tons of practice. Pick a tempo that is easy for you and try to play as loud as possible for at least a minute. Repeat ad infinitum.

  • @Steve128967 yeah 16ths. i'm practising my ass off these days so i should make progress soon. thanks for the info

  • 42 people still think travis barker is the best drummer

  • @salamandergod1 yeah, he sucks

  • @salamandergod1 42 people thought your comment was good.

  • @salamandergod1 lmao he sucksXD

  • @salamandergod1 thats not very many *Hardy Laugh* HUGH HUGH HUGFH

  • @salamandergod1 matt greiner from august burns red is where its at!! :D

  • @salamandergod1 It's a shame people are so ignorant as to think someone as terrible as him is the best ever.

  • @ChimPiZGaY Way to be an ass let me guess you either never have played drums or YOU think you are god at it and really really suck :) have a nice day

  • @Stdrummer3011 Dude. I've been playing for around 2 and a half years. I've heard and seen the solos he's played. And I can play them easily. I'm not being cocky, I'm far from that, I'm the most self-depreciative person you'll ever meet. But I know that I could play the beats he plays with ease. And at least I've actually got the balls to post videos on Youtube of me playing, instead of you, the ignorant prick, who doesn't really care about playing, just says he does, but really sucks. Good day:)

  • @ChimPiZGaY Ok look up sing sing sing Unity jazz band prick thats me drumming after only a year in a half. I watched your covers and they are ok but just stop bashing other people and bands. A GOOD drummer gives advice on how to improve not bash them.

  • Awesome tutorial, but i think its best for people to find this shit out themselves. Everyones got a different typa technique :)

  • i find that the legs help with the dexterity and the ankles help with speed, and a combination of the two allows really fast clean double bass

  • the end was the best part im not even kidding

  • when you're talking at the beginning of the video, why is there a random arm at the right side of the screen?

  • @conterooski Slendermanz

  • kigurum ^_^'

  • i didnt know tiger could drum

  • cows are laughing!!!

  • its hardcore tiger!!! :D

  • my left leg is fine, but my right leg tenses up like completely, any advice?

  • @lucci97 relax. and start slow, then build up speed. don't force it, just practice. A LOT.

  • spikey! i need help! if i tighten or loosen the bass drum pedals what diff does it do to my playing. like how does it affect the pedal board

  • @blight4hire lesson 17, go!

  • I get angry because I still can't do it that fast =(

  • @SharkBitch he's a fucking god! dont expect to play as fast as god! its impossible. the ending pisses me off thow!

  • la voz que se escucha es la del baterista....STEVE SMITH....

    esto es una mentira....

  • the end of this video is creepy. but amazing.

  • @Migh7yb00sh its bull shit! country doesnt offer shit!

  • @fnaist you're an idiot, thats not what makes the end awesome. i dont like country either. it's just funny because of what it is. learn to troll idget

  • And check out these deadly hexa-kicks!

  • chair from the matrix movie?

  • These lessons have helped me a lot, and for that I'd like to thank you. I adjusted my seat and all of my drums higher (I'm pretty tall) so that was effort haha, I also adjusted my pedals and literally as soon as I sat down I could play faster, seems like I already had the foot technique down I was just too hunched down!

Could yourself or any other kind drummers inform me on how far one would want their beaters away from their bass head? Does it matter much when playing fast double-bass? Thanks

  • this video seriously helped me with my sweep picking! Nice vid!!

  • is that a pearl eliminator?

  • @tricky12321 Not even close.

  • @HereComesTheZac looks exactly the same as mine in every single way

  • If you tighten the pedals up you can put your whole foot on the pedal. Its suprisingly fast and you get a shit load of power on it.

  • thanks for helping me i can play so fast now ur the king
