brutbear but u have to remember, in singapore, we have english as a subject, but taiwan do not have, they have to either take up english classes, or go overseas and learn, and trust me, if they really learnt english, it would be much better then us, since we use singlish. go find those taiwanese people who can speak good english, they really can speak good, but of course, i agree with you, 1 singaporean dosent mean all singaporean, we can too, speak good english.
agree~ everyones critizing jolin's english. show's english isnt good cuz he hasnt been learning it and i thnk everyones just being too harsh on jolin. itz jsut entertainment shows...
Well Show never said that she started talking English at a young age, and Jolin said that she speaks English with her sister and she also wrote a book in English. The host said that her English is great but her accent is bad and their is no excuse. On the other hand I can forgive Show cux he always said that his English isn't good.
i believe she meant to say "what have u been up to" but she said "what have been you up to?" its still wrong, her 'been' n 'you' switched places. the 2nd time she said "what has been, up to"... err...
English is official language for many countries in Asia.
Being Asian doesnt make learning english difficult.
Please do not use 'asian' as an excuse.
People from a country like Japan, China... have difficulties because they have ZERO
English education, partly because of ego... just like many Americans/Britain criticizing others sux in english (if differ in accent), while they themselves know naughts about other country, language or history.
i love jolin! so i'm not here to criticize her, afterall, taiwan's education system does not include english as its main language. just like i'm very sure jolin's mandarin is much better than mine. she has accomplished alot to have come this far. i'm just pointing it out, in case people learn that wrong sentence.

yeah...jolin's english has a VERY large space for improvement~ but good enough la~ for an asian learning english(not in the americas)...it's hard.
her profession is singing~ so lets not be too hard on her english. just like how i've been taking french for YEARS~ i still make stupid mistakes XD

listen to the conversation carefully;
jolin: what have been you up to?
xiao zhu: what?
jolin: what have been, up to?
