@ktcsca Because gay is usually an adjective whereas lesbian is usually a noun (though it can be an adjective, e.g. lesbian writer). The term lesbian derives from an inhabitant of Lesbos, so you'd be more likely to say 'she is a Lesbian', just as you'd say 'she is an American'. Maybe? It does feel that that 'a lesbian' is more of a tag, more completely defining than 'gay' used as an adjective, which sounds relative or descriptive of just one aspect of a person.
