i use to work on there. i grew up in that aria. it is fucking rough. to not carry a weapon is like leaving the house with out pants on. riverview was a mentil hospital. the government did some cuts and it was shut down. all the mantaly ill were pushed out onto the streets with no resorces. so what do you expect? now they are in a 7 block radius. if they wonder out the police pick em up or push them back in to the 7 block aria arond hastines st. cont...

@BoomStickSgt I'm not in Canada, but I find the DTES interesting. Specifically, the issues with the mental health, and how many of these people were treated when Riverview started to close. It's said Riverview is supposed to be completely closed by 2012. Did they really just shove some of these mentally ill people into the worst neighborhood in BC? And if so, what were the basis of this decision? I haven't been able to find much, they did a great job of covering their tracks. Really a shame.

I remember when this was a museum back in the 60's; I also volunteered there 15 years ago and met a lot of very sweet people, not all who congregate at the Carnegie are drug addicts, but the ones who are are very much people too.

Heroin addiction isn't as easy to kick as some would think who tell these people to get off drugs, in fact heroin is the 2nd hardest drug, the first being cigarettes
