I am a british-pakistani, I have worked on a project in Yanbu for 3.5yrs. Turkish built Madinah Station remained very neglected and ruined until 2004. Original trains and engines were still there. Saudis have made the station into a park. I was sad to see history lost and not preserved.
I've heard of the Hejaz railway and how it was paid for in full by the Ottoman people to keep European banks from controlling it. At least I think this is that story. If not, my apologies. A very nice historical video.
