No one from a church ever forced me to give them anything on penalty of imprisonment. Charitable giving ceases to be charitable giving when it isn't voluntary, therefore taxes can't be accurately compared to donations to churches or any other organization. Simple enough.

When you are giving in a church it is because you have chosen to give, therefore can and should be considered a chritable gift. When the Gov't forcibly reaches into your pocket and stuffs your money into someone elses it is no longer a gift of charity but a theft by force. It is wrong in by all accounts. Sounds like you all think we should pay NO taxes whatsoever. Who needs to support the society they live in? Nobody! Fine. 3% of 100,000 is still not chump change, and redistribution is still wrong. I'm aware of what socialism is, and at the core it's all about redistribution of one group's wealth to another. I know what taxes are, and I'm opposed to unfair taxes as well. Most of what is going on right now is closer to fascism, which falls under the banner of unfair redistributionist socialism.

I suggest reading Murray Rothbard and The Law Bastiat.

Murray Rothbard was net was I was 16. Your definition of socialism is wrong - if you don't like taxes, fine. No libertarian has ever been able to cite a single example of a society that doesn't have taxes. Further, there's no direct link between higher taxes and quality of life or the economy. Obviously, there's a tipping point where taxes get to high - but the Bush tax cuts didn't improve the U.S. economy.

Taxes can be legit, if they're appropriate and just, not to mention used for the actual purpose they were levied for (which seems to be rare these days). Basically, if you don't have the right to go to your neighbor and demand money for food or education or anything else, then you don't have the right to have government do it for you. I would say a trillion dollars for banks and mortgages isn't justified.

Well, first - if your income is $250,000 you aren't taxed an extra 3% on that amount. It's the money you make OVER that amount where the tax is increased.

Second - no, that isn't socialism. Actually look up the word in a dictionary or talk to some socialists.

What you're talking about - taking money from one group for the benefit of another....that's exactly what we do now. Nothing new. Every country does it. It's called taxes.
