WHERE is the rest of this recording? Is the entire show available anywhere? I grew up on this music but never got the gift of seeing the original cast. Even blurry, the power of the performances in this and the clip of "At the Ballet" is incredible.
I saw hwr do this a few years ago in her Life Cabaret. And she was still amazing. Afterwards I had a drink with her at the piano at Martunis in San Franciso. She is so nice And So A Legend
I saw this amazing woman, when she rejoined the cast in 86 or so. The tour came through Toronto, and I went, but for some reason I cannot remember it. How can anyone forget this remarkable woman? I must have been off my meds or something.
Thanks, markmole, for posting this. Check out Donna's autobiography Time Steps: My Musical Comedy Life. It's a frank honest look at this great performer's life and career.
Of course Donna was the original but, Has anyone out there seen Wanda Richert do Music and the Mirror? I personaly know she was Michael Bennet´s favorite Cassie... Does anyone have Wanda´s version to post?
In 1984 or 1985 I met Michael and I asked him... Who was the best Cassie... He replied... Wanda Richert of course... and went on to tell me why... It was fantastic!
Life is full of wonderful gifts, and this is one of the best I've had in a long time. To think a tape like this exists and that it is available on youtube. Fabulous. It is a magical, gut-wrenching performance, the best! Thank you for posting, and thank you, Donna McKechnie, for doing this number so beautifully.
A documentary is being made now about the original production compared to the one currently on Broadway. Hopefully they'll be better, clearer footage from the 1975 production.
OK, everyone else's gonna tell you this GreenFlower: A Chorus Line was actually BORN off-Broadway, and became a hit off-Broadway. It was created at the New York Shakespeare Festival, and played at the Newman Theatre for 101 sold-old performances before moving to Broadway on July 25, 1975. This clip of Donna is from the Newman.
Note to Tony Award show planning folks: Please, please, please have Charlotte perform the TMATM in its entirety. It would be a great for this Bennett(ish?) number to (finally) be on record. Thanks!
If you ever get the chance to see Donna's caberet act -- do it! We saw her perform "My Musical Comedy Life" at the Haugh Center in Glendora CA. a few years ago and my wife and I were awestruck. Donna is simply one of the most captivating entertainers of all time.
This is utterly magical, the awful quality of the film somehow adds to the poignancy, the passage of time and all that...........when one sees another human do something, anything, as well as McKechnie dances this number, it's heartbreaking yet gives one such hope and faith in human endeavour...........magnificent Donna......thank you.
It probably came from Lincoln Center, but I have no idea how anyone could get it from there -- but they're so strict, I don't know how anybody could have gotten it from there.
Dance 10, Looks 3 - This is a great clip hindered by the quality of the film. The thrill of Tharon Musser's groundbreaking lighting is gone. The red dress in the black void - gone - this is like the b/w memory sequences in Follies - a memory of greatness. It's wonderful to recall the way the song switches between the internal and the dialogue scene. And the performances - both McKechnie and LuPone are wonderful. How, when and where was this recorded, I wonder?
Where on Earth did you find this, and do you have any more!? This is literally the coolest thing I have ever seen. I almost passed out before I even got the chance to watch it.
EXACTLY how I felt when I first found it! The whole show was taped by two house cameras. The quality of the B&W video is pretty awful, but it's such amazing theatre history.
Whoever disliked this video knows nothing about theatre. :)
LONG LIVE DONNA M.

I saw Wanda do Peggy in 42nd St - woulda loved to see her Cassie. She's phenomenal.
But Donna is one of a kind.
