@MusicBlinded51 Hi William, I think the NDR studio is one of the best places on earth for being able to hear it and record it well. When an organ is so well constructed as the Welte, it is very difficult to make a harsh noise! I hope to come to Hamburg to play again in the future one day - it will be wonderful to hear the Welte Funkorgel once again. It is truly the most amazing and inspiring instrument. Best wishes from Michael
it`s me again. The more I hear this video, the more I remember your concert last saturday in Hamburg at this Welte-organ.I confess, when I saw videos on YouTube from other theater organist playing on other theater organs, - I often did not like the sound. I always was so glad to have my Hammond.
But the organsound in your concert was not like that. Not always the same scratchy sound. It sounded varied and never scratchy. I thought about, is it the organ or is it the organist?
@MusicBlinded51 Hello William, I think that many things can affect the sound of an organ; the builder, the voicer, the acoustics, even the compressions used on youtube! I'm not always convinced that theatre organs record well and it is an instrument that sounds best live! The fantastic thing about the Funkorgel is that the studio is acoustically perfect for recording the organ and for listening live, so we are all very lucky to have been able to hear it! I hope more people will do that too!
@MusicBlinded51 Hi William, I first knew this music when I was 3 years old, so after 50 years, I still love to hear and play it! Charles Ancliffe was a fine composer. Thank you for your comment.
Hi Michael,
************* here comes the end of the story ;-) **********************
I think it's both. The Welte organ and the organist with his musical arrangements, his registration and his expressive and precise way of playing.
Michael, - please give me more!
Best wishes, William.
