Such demographic maps basically show the nonwhite percentages of rural populations in various regions. Notice how much of the West is as bad or worse than the south? That is because the much of the West (by area) is Indian reservations. The south looks bad because it has a significant rural black population. There probably is some north/south difference, but everyone knows the south has historically been poorer than the north.
I hate to sound racist but yall realize health care in blacks and hispanics is incrdibly low.
Id like yall to think about this the south has more 5 times the blacks then the north and Texas has more mexicans then new england does citizens.
I think the sad truth is poverty in the south is high and has been since the civil war when the United States brutally invaded and conquered our people.
But we cant forget that the minority population is higher here then anywhere else.
Is the point the way the Northeast raped the south in the war, burning all the land, then militarily occupying it, so they would be poor and unable to buy health care? A true testament to the barbarity of the northeastern people, if so. Now they say they are printing money for the Northern wars for the warfare-welfare-statist-neo-feudal states, but even in the north, people are rioting on t.v. now.
I guess the implied point was that a region that was back ward thinking with regard to slavery 150 years ago is still back ward with regard to providing health care to its citizens. My guess. Any other takers?
@Talltrees84 Yes... thought it was the result of the rape of the south economically. The war burned the land, the land was redistributed, the area militarily occupied for years, then economic sanction acts were passed (like 1965 Tobacco Acts that, essentially made illegal the cash crop since colonial times, of NC/KY/VA/, and farms in MS flooded by dam placement, etc., etc. Now, they have about bled the south and print money on wall st. for the yankee wars overseas, lol. My guess.
Did you ever hear of the old slave house in junction Illinois located in southern IL where the slaves worked the salt mines and big jim fathered over 300 childern . Yes slavery was well and alive in southern IL before the civil war. Check it out (the olds slave house junction IL.) History leaves certain things out the writers don't like. Don't believe me google it

@MasterWooten Thank you for seeing my largely restrained judgment. When I did this I vid I didn't feel comfortable making any strong conclusions, but the maps, and lines were as they were.
This analogy is stupid, lack of health insurance because some states allowed slavery in 1860? WTF? That's like linking Ice cream sales to crime rates, when both are increased by sweltering heat.
Why should ANYONE from the Southern States give a rats ass what any one of these Yankees think of us? We didnt in 1861 and we dont in 2011. They are a different people. Damn them, they are NOTHING to us.
The Civil War was not fought only about slavery. There were many free slaves in the south, over 100,000 in New Orleans alone. Some of these free men (African Americans) had black slaves. The border states had slaves in the Union and slavery was very well permitted in the Union until 1865 when the 13th Amendment was ratified. One Union general had many slaves and Lincoln said if he could avoid war without ending slavery, he would. He also said that whites and blacks were not physically equal.
@bbouch111 Agreed. Also, by 1860, over half of US exports were cotton-related. Like most every other war, it was about money. This notion that the Union was some noble emancipating body that was to swoop down on the South and free the slaves and that the Confederacy was filled with racist, plantation-owning men is just totally false. Unfortunately, that's what's taught in schools today.
This is a largely irrelevant coincidence. Your map is deceptive as it cut off the Western regions. It is actually a map of agrarian vs. industrial developement. The green shaded areas have industrial & post industrial (that is: financial & service oriented jobs) which provide health coverage. The South was always lagging in the industrial developement era. Large areas are still agrarian. If you note the patches of blue in the North, those are also rural areas.
You'll get really sick once you retire. I see it all the time and now in Ma. they are going after retirees health benefits. Exactly when they're needed most.
@vanderdole Your not free, your socialist. And as to your comment"right to die", it's more apt to say we have the right to succeed, and if one doesn't it's one's own fault.
You will die one day. The chances of you having a prolonged illness before you kick off are rather high. The chances you will have an illness that will require hospitalization during your life are even higher. Why do so many people have no health insurance when they know they will get sick one day? They will pass the cost of their care onto those who act responsible. People who argue for the right to choose not to have health insurance are arguing for someone else to pay their bills.
Well I have 7 children and we thrive,we have always had health insurance.....I think success in life is due hard work and good choices....My dad is from Ohio originally,he moved to NC due to the lack of jobs in Ohio...
Here is a fact,in the 1990s,90% of the jobs created in the USA ...Were IN THE SOUTH....Please check if you doubt..
@TheChristianRight09 Many of those jobs were outsourced from the North because Southerners work for peanuts and are comfortable with a lower quality of life, lack of basic medical care, dangerous working conditions, etc.
@GordanCable Are you serious? Did you really just insinuate that Southerners will voluntarily, happily work in conditions similar to a third world country? I find that comment offensive, inaccurate, and flatly egregious in its inflammatory nature. Maybe you should take a trip down South, and please, take lots of notes.
Dude, it's somewhat based on class. Most people in the South have lower incomes so they can't afford health insurance, however, it seems as if the mountain west has a lot less people with insurance too. Anyways it's because these areas are poor and agricultural and these people don't have money. Education also is a concern since few southern states have great education. It has nothing to do with the slavery or civil war
And I guess all black people eat fried chicken & watermelon everyday too right? I mean, look where they put all the Popeye chicken, KFC & Lee's famous recipie restaruants right? LMAO. You ignorant moronic liberals are EVERYTHING you claim you're not.
Who votes against their own interests? How so? Did you happen to see what States are bankrupt, and are losing residnets to the south? New York, New Jersey, California, Rhode Island, Delaware, Illinois.......ALL liberal Democrat States. LOL!
Yep you're right it was 1913. They ratified it in Congress in 1909 but didn't get it passed until after the 1912 elections.
You could be right about the Founders putting in the abiltiy to amend the Constitution but I doubt they'd have liked the 16th. They wanted a small, hands off, weak Federal Gov't b/c of what their forefathers had fled in Europe. They wanted the power to be at the local level.
Perhaps the South is still mired in poverty by God's will: "[I]f God wills that ... all the wealth piled by the bondsman's two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid ... as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said 'the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.'" -- Abraham Lincoln, Second Inaugural Address
Ima take this time to say that the economy and basic civil life of the Southern states have existed only since reconstruction while the northern states have had a stable, fluent economy and a civility with few changes over the past 400 years. So obviously, they would have better health overall.
@AuburnAttack21 The South is poor because they choose to be poor. Don't want to read & right go ahead and be stupid as a rock. I'm a Southerner and the actions of most people feel as if they are being held up. BS. There is nothing gay about illiteracy. It is a pathetic state of being and has no place in a democratic state. The lack of Reconstruction was a great loss that J.W.Booth put us in.
We don't have healthcare because we don't need it. Farmers don't have a use for health insurance. "allowed" slavery like it was something we had a choice in. Have to thank King George for that one.
I have just viewed this video and I have no idea what you are talking about. All I get is some murky difference between healthcare in the North and South and then you tie this in with the Civil War for some unknown reason. What does the war between the States have to do with healcare? More importantly, why is the West so barren of healthcare and why is California and the North East not shown, did you edit it? If so, why? What was the purpose of making this video?
I love it when people (like the creator of this video) draw cheap correlations, chop them off with a "thank you for your time" or a "I rest my case", and then scurry off like rodents...
Seems to be more a map of people who tend to rely on themselves rather than some "Massa" to tell them how to live or take care of themselves. The West is and was notorious for going it on their own and making do and so was the South.
I don't think your demographics has anything to do with the Southern part having once been slave holding.
"We federated for foreign affairs only and domestic affairs are left to the States or to the people." Thomas Jefferson, 1823
Health Care is not a federal issue, the Constitution gives no authority to the federal government to control health care, if the feds don't stop the corruption, there will be another War of Independence.
Assuming a NON lies, damn lies and statistics stance... It appears at the beginning of the video it has far more to do with population and an northeast vs southwest issue. It would be interesting to look at the likes of industries, education, and population densities and overlay. Is there some relation to discrimination/segregation, Im sure there is, but I highly doubt its a primary factor.
The southern states have a generally different ideological position than the northern states as said prior. Not to mention that the southern states are still reeling from the rape and pillage they suffered from Sherman, and later reconstruction. Not much different from the European boot on Germany's neck after WW1.
This is supposed to evoke an emotional response from me because areas of the U.S. that have stronger beliefs in the right to choose have less health coverage? Why is California not shown here?
These images lack true coherence, there is very little that binds the information together.
Right to choose is not addressed here at all, nor are sides in the US Civil War. States that allowed slavery immed. prior to The Civil War are -I certainly spend more time on the ins. outcomes on either side of an arbitrary line between KS, and OK than abortion. Turns out that on a national level, a map I saw of the percentage of self-described "Evangelicals" looks very similar to the ins. map I use here. I continue to not be so interested in a "version 2" of this.
Funny, I just noticed that 8400 people have viewed this vid in the time that it has been up.
There seems to be a theme running through your posts, one that assumes I actually have a (poorly) defined point. If there needs to be a meaning to this, it might be that I'm not sure what this is going forward either.
Throw that "right to choose" saying out the window. It's pro-life and pro-abortion. Evil organizations like planned parenthood send goons to confront pregnant women on their way to counseling and take them to a clinic to get an abortion instead. These monsters are pro-death and despise it when the right "choice" (giving the child a chance to live) is made.
@undermyvoodoo22 California is the closest thing the US has to socialist Sweden in terms of accessibility to health care for its' poorest residents. I'm certain the most rural, least developed & poorest economic counties didn't change much since the end of the civil war. Also they tend to be higher percentage African-American areas, including American Indian reservations & highest concentrations of Latinos (whom are undocumented immigrants) suffer from the worst lack of health care coverage. +
@demikede1 I know, it's magnificent here in California. I'm poor, can't afford 'health insurance', yet I have full health coverage. I love you, California. I love democratic socialism as well.
My point is only that people who truly cannot afford to purchase healthcare in this country, have medicaid to help them.
I certainly could put all the money that I've paid into health insurance to other uses, but instead, I pay into it week after week, month after month, year after year, Just In Case something happens.
I am not rich
This is how life works
If health were a liability to others, the gov't would've made it mandatory long ago like auto insurance.
The Health bill will cause hospitals to charge taxes on procedures and put the gov't into your personal life forever. Rights are voted into law so no one has the right to medical treatment, this is the trick you are being herded into thinking you need a right by law when you already have a right by common courtesy of capitalism, med insurance is socialism and govt health is communism. Pacified people who cry for food, shelter and medicine are worthy of none, but are parasites on civilizations.

It is a fundamental right that everyonne should be provided with treatment regardless of the ability to pay. Denying someone treatment on the basis of no health insurance is in my opinion violently immoral
BECAUSE YOU DUMB STEREOTYPICAL MASSES CANT REALIZE THAT THE FEDS HAVE BEEN SCREWING THE SOUTH OUT OF EVERYTHING. ALOT OF LITTLE THINGS LIKE THIS START WARS. and this matter isnt to little. it might break our face in office. USA = TYRANNY IN MIDDLE EAST SINCE 1953, and paid for it in 2001.
THis makes no sense. If people are without health insruance they can go and buy coverage, or just pay for doctor's visits out of pocket. What does the Civil War have to do with it? And why would it be governmnet's responsibility to pay for your health insurance anyways?
Because in America it is perfectly normal that a person who has lost 2 fingers has to choose between to fingers because he can't pay for both of them.
In countries that have healthcare run by the government, that is unbelievable. If you come in a hospital there they will try to save everything they can ant make you as healty as possible, without asking you if you can pay for it first.
But if you Americans wich to life like that, fine by me. Die in the streets if you want too.
We eagerly awigt your proof to show a person in an emergency room being quoted a price and saying "well, just save one finger then." In countries with government run care it is normal to wait a long time for what can be done the same day in the USA. People in Canada come here and people in Britian are pulling their own teeth die to waits. It's on the netm google it. I'll not be cheap like you and pay for quality care instead of waiting for the governemnt.
From a guy in Canada, yes some of are white times are longer, and yes sometimes you can die on a waiting list, but you can do this in the states all well. If I had to pick between the two ways of doing thing I would stay with the one I got now. I hared a man say once that the difference between an American and a Canadian is that Canadians believe that heath care is a right in the states its a gun. ( sorry for the bad speeling).
Well, as much as I do like Canada and Canadians I have met that last sentence is a problem. Health care for free is NOT a right. Carrying a gun is because that is a right that does not take from others, the right to protect yourself. Saying health care is a "right" is saying someone else is supposed to pay your way. Like in the Declaration of Indepence, rights come from our creator, whomever you believe that to be, they don't come from Congress or Parliment.
It may all have to do with the fact that the slave-owning states were in an artificial economy; they had no experience with paying for labour, viewing their own labour or the labour of others as a commodity and so insuring that commodity. The South ended up financially backward in other ways too, financial knowledge was not spread as much. Maybe the contribution to pensions follows the same pattern.
USA should have a public healthcare sistem. That way, you wouldn't need private life insurances. I don't have such an insurance, but when I go to the doctor he is obliged to give me free treatment.
I live in Thailand and as you may well know we are all about standing up for our rights, and we know what we're talking about. American history is probably more scrutinized here than in America itself. I have to say that darcskies777 and
macflinn obviously have no idea what they're talking about. It is a fact to us that your history books lie about Abraham Lincoln and depict him as a good man. We also know that the Confederate State fought and died to uphold your Constitution, not slavery.
Its a shame someone from Thailand knows more about my nations history than most of my friends props to you my good frriend and yes Abe Lincoln was a piece of shit, the civil war wasnt fought over slaver it was fought over the same problem we have today STATE VS FEDERAL
i know of a country with very limted national government, and every household has a firearm. The the American Government will send you there free of charge to do work there. Afghanistan Our troops were send there by "W" Bush
The War for Southern Independence was fought over the Constitution. The Issue of States Rights vs Central Government goes back to signing of the Constitution, and still goes on today. Our government in the District of Corruption doesn't want to use the Constitution. Congress will coin money and back it with gold and silver, not the federal reserve with fiat currency backed by nothing. This Republic is over, it is time for the people take our government back.
BTW, I'm still waiting for you to explain to me why over 100,000 black men fought for southern independence & what 94% of Southerners who were NOT slave owners where fighting for, since you say it was all about slavery.
What about thousands of sotthern black people who ARE educated and KNOW the truth of what it stands for who proudly fly the confederate battleflag and belong to confederate organizations? Several videos right here on youtube showing them.
EVery low-life from God's toilet seat (the south) should have been tried/convicted of war crimes and put to death.
150+ years later they still represent among the lowest forms of scum in the country and funny that most of these inbred virus reside in the same region...THE FUCKING SOUTH.
I guarantee my education far exceeds yours moron. Most of America knows what it means, BillO uses the word on his show damn near everytime I've ever watched it & I'm sure thats where you learned it.
You're just an ignorant idiot who probably slid thru College as easy as possible and now think your educated when, in fact, your just a brainwashed neomarxist idiot who obviously knows nothing about your Countries history, the South, the Civil war, or why it was fought. Bet you'd say "slavery!"?
I just watched a documentary on Abe Lincoln on PBS. The Civil War was only about slavery in an end around way.
But your dumbass if about to give me some bullshit speech bout "states rights."
But everyone knows its a bunch of bullshit. You all were traitors to your country and instead of calling Lincoln a war criminal you should proclaim him a saint for not doing what he should have done and slaughtered every man woman and child that so much as smiled in the direction of confederate trash.
Look up the "morrill Tarriff" which more than doubled the Southern States tax rates and put thousands of people out of work & closed hundreds of businesses.
It was about economic oppression jerkoff.
If it were over slavery, can you explain to me why over 100,000 black men fought for the Confederates? Only 6% of Southerners owned slaves; can you explain what the other 94% were fighting for?
Thats why I said it was about slavery in an end-around way. But you're a redneck so you cant read. Idiot.
Immigrants who came to to North from Ireland and lets just say Europe could not find jobs because well...SLAVES had them all. It created tension as the population in the North increased.
Second of all 60% of the US export was from slavery. So dont give me that economic oppression crap. Southerners and their sympathizers were in control of both the supreme Ct. and Congress.
Do you also know that the northern folks you love so much were the ones who sold the slaves? Yep, every single slave ship ever to go to africa was registered out of either NYC or Boston.
It was also your northern hero's who, by law, made blacks 3/5ths human beings. You see, they didn't want southern blacks doing this pesky little thing called VOTING!
I assume your a Democrat, which is the party who fought against emansipation and the civil rights act of 64. Look up "Robert Byrd"!! LOL
Oh so the North started the war b/c they wanted the slaves jobs? Sotherners controlled Congress & the Supreme Court? 60% of exports from Slavery?
LMFAO!!!
BTW, Robert Byrd is the CURRENT house majority leader and is a former KKK Grand dragon! Yeah, YOUR Democrat party voted for him to be majority leader. So much for "is not the party of today".......
Your a perfect example of how Democratic run schools & teachers unions brainwash & teach revisionist history to morons to keep thier base.
Um. I never said they wanted their jobs. I said that they could not find good jobs in the North and when they went South there was no farm land because all of it was taken.
The other two points that you foolishly attacked are true. Look it up.
I know who Robert Byrd is. He has one foot in the grave and almost died at the Inauguration.
Also I think the South is a laughing stock for a reason. You've earned it. Reconstruction was further proof that southerners were (and still are) Anti-American
First of all you assumed I'm from the South. I'm not. I'm from Northern Ohio & am a history buff.
Second, its too bad you feel the way you do. Take note, Lincoln who freed the Slaves was born & raised in Kentucky. Grant, the leader of the Union Army was a slave owner until the end of the war.
Things are not as simple as you like to believe.
Third, Southerners were and are very patriotic Americans. They wanted the Constitution followed, "no taxation w/out representation" was NOT happening!
BTW, I guess I was right when I said "I doubt I'll ever get an answer" about what the 94% of Southerners who didn't own slaves were fighting for & why over 100,000 black men fought for the Confederates & to this very day, thousands of southern blacks still fly the confederate flag.
Its about Southern heritage, culture and pride; NOT hate & NOT racism. The KKK has thier OWN flag!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
And sorry but "Sourthern heritage culture and pride" seemed to have involved murder, enslavement and destruction at the expense of another culture with its own heritage and it's own pride.
No matter how you try to cover that up that stain will forever be on the south. FOREVER.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The south lost for good reason. Ignoring the slavery issue it solved the answer of sovreignty. The fact that the federal government is the higher power is a good thing. It had to happen. You can't have a republic like ours with 50 different bitching states. The Federal government must reign supreme over the states. The unfortunate thing about the south in the civil war is that they had many unpleasant things about them that discredited their argument by default. The Union won becauseit was right
as a matter of fact, I have. I know it more or less verbatim. The ambiguous question of the document was whether or not the country was "These" united states or "The" united sates. The civil war answered that question. It is "THE" united states with a Central government running the show. You can debate the interpretation all you like but it was left ambiguous on purpose by the founding fathers. I guess you just don't like the interpretation and precedenct our history has set for the document.
Didn't it set certain rights the Federal Gov't had over the States and everything else not mentions was left up to "States Rights"??
Your correct in your last sentence, the Constitution has been trashed by modern leftist, judicial activist Judges who find things in the Constitution that are clearly not there like "abortion rights" and "gay marriage rights"; then say rights that ARE there like the 1st and 2nd Amendments "really don't mean what they say".....
No they are not there, but that is the beauty of English common law tradition that we continued post independence. The judicial branch, love it or hate it, interprets the law and makes decisions based on the law and the context with whcih they are presented. Certainly some judges go beyond what is palpable to us ( i happen to disagree with gay marriage and abortion "rights") but I wholeheartedly agree with and support the system.
I agree with the system too. If it were practiced the way it was intended to be, I'd support it too, but I can't support it when its being abused. Judges ARE supposed to interpret the law; these days they are MAKING the law.
Its been corrupted the the core. Another good example is the Federal gov't telling the States "lower the DUI limit to .08 or we won't give you Federal Hwy funds". Thats extortion and a violation of States rights yet nobody says a word about it. How can I respect that?
you can respect that because a.) driving is not a right. b.) if you are over .08 you should not be drivint (common sense) and c.) if your state is irresponsible enough to let that happen than god damn it the federal gov't should throw it's weight in and say "Hey state(s), tow the line or you're fucked, this pool of money doesn't exclusively come from your state"
Your missing the point. Its UNCONSTITUTIONAL for the Feds to do that!
Dropping it from a .10 to a .08 is NOTHING more than a way to grab more money from the peoples pockets. There was no study showing it curtails the problem. NONE!
How is it unconstitutional? It's in their position to interpret as they see fit. That's why the constitution is a working body. Besides, why would you even opose lowering the DUI limit? You shouldn't be driving if you've been drinking
The constitution isnt something that should be interepreted thats the problem today in America we have Judges who think they make and break laws suppresing the will of the American people, and yet even after 200 years we dont have a way to fix it, This Republic has become a bust Checks and Balances has failed when American Presidents Nominate Judicial Leaders something that shouldnt be going on, then the Executive and Judicial Branch gain grounds on the Legislative side, Fuck the 2 party system
The constitution absolutely should be interpreted. You are missing one of the major principles of th US Revolution that is completely overlooked. The day we declared independence from Great Britain, one thing and one thing only happened: His Majestey's government no longer had sovereignty, however his majesty's laws became our laws. English Common Law became our law. We carried on continuity of government yet replaced the seat of power. That was the single greatest acheivement of our revolt.
When it became apparent that this was not the case (cliff notes here, but if you want greater detail I'd be happy to oblige) based on the way states were competeing with each other we had a convention reform the articles of confederation. A document that was hastily thrown together with an emotion that hated centralized govt but had no foresight. What the founding fathers then did was incredible. They did what the British have failed to ever do. We wrote down English common law and governance
into a working document. We took the then British Imperial system (the only system our founding fathers and founding lawyers ever knew) and wrote it down, codified it and made it work. Executive Branch:The monarchy; House:Commons; Senate:Lords; Supreme Court: Kings Bench; We succeded in doing what the british have never been able to do. We looked at and understood our govt's structure and wrote it down in one document rather than a hodge podge millenia's worth of precedence. You should be proud
@flyboymd82 the states could not take federal funds, right? then they could do whatever they wanted. if you want funding fromt he feds, then it comes with a catch. you can't have your cake and eat it too.
@mattyszow Have you ever read the Constitution or heard of "States rights"? The Federal Gov't shouldn't be taking income tax from citizens to begin with. Its OUR money, the STATES money, not thiers. They take it, then tell States to do what they want & they'll give some back. Sounds like blackmail/coersion to me & it SURE as hell isn't constitutional.
@flyboymd82 While I don't disagree with you that the "feds are out of control with power" (they are), I have read the Constitution. 17th Amendment: "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration." -- whether or not income tax is good policy or not is a different conversation; fact is, until the 17th Amendment the income tax very much is constituional
@mattyszow Thats actually the 16th amendment. It was adopted in 1909. What I meant was our Founding fathers would not have approved of an income tax, it was a big mistake & was SUPPOSED to be "temporary" at 2%. Now look at what we are paying! Some pay up to 50% of thier income to the Gov't with local & State included & leftists now feel thats not even enough for the "rich". Thats not the America our Founders envisioned. Thats more like an endentured servitude(AKA slave) State.
@flyboymd82 16th Amendment, youre right - typo. Asd I'm sure it is a type on your part that it was passed in 1909 (since it was passed in 1913) -- but anyway, one could make the argument that the Founders put the Amendment process into the Constitution solely for the people's reps to be able to adjust as needed. So, you could say it is exactly how the Founders envisioned it. (I'm just playing devil's advocate here, b/c i actually agree with your point of over-taxation)
@flyboymd82 There is a price for copping out. The South has been copping out since 1865. If you don't want to pay for living in this society I suggest you find a new home south of the Rio Grande. No insurance when you have a heart attack; cancer; or a kidney stone? You'll quickly find no hospital wants to take you without ins. Go down to an ER on Sat. night and find out the real state of health is.
@nor888vast695 Speaking of 'stupid as a rock'. Your comments make ZERO sense. You're blanket stereotyping of the south is ignorant & I worked in an ER for 7 years.
PS, its ILLEGAL for a hospital to turn you away for ANY reason. ILLEGAL!! Get it dipshit? You're really 63 years old & this ill informed?
@flyboymd82 All a hospital has to do is stop the bleeding and then they can and WILL kick you out on the curb. I hate the stupid inbred South. Why can't it just disappear?
@flyboymd82 Look at the frigging map, it isn't stereotyping when you have statistical evidence you're right. Stupid hicks in the South vote against their own interests.
I thought we already established that the Civil War was not TOTALLY about slavery. It was a byproduct of slavery. You cant deny slavery was a major reason for the C.W. just not the only one.
Those who did not own slaves were fighting for other's rights to have them. Just like when the twin towers fell we wanted to fight those who did it whether or not we knew anyone who died in the towers. It was about loyalty.
And the black soldiers who fought for the confederates where just morons.
Sorry but Southerners just wanted to keep slaves and felt the the Constitution allowed for it (which it did actually)
And Ohio is just like Pennsylvania. Northern Alabama and Northern Mississippi respectively. As for it not being the same as it was in the 50s you're right.
People like that dont even change their mindset they just change the way they go about being anti-American. Instead of "hang the niggers! kill the immigrants!" It's "racially profile the niggers and shoot them in the back"
"doing what he should have done and slaughtered every man woman and child that so much as smiled in the direction of confederate trash."
My, how tolerant, how enlightened and educated. Is it any wonder our desire for a seperate country still burns. The Southron people stood up and demanded the Constitution be followed. But people like yourself openly called for genocide, much like you did. All empires eventually come to an end. I can't wait for the day. Deo Vindice.
Yankees are pretty vicious. That's why they are so dangerous to the world - they've had it too easy and take being able to step on others for granted.
not yankees, their leaders. The spin doctors and propaganda pushers. I doubt they will ever get stepped on because they have thousands of nukes, but you watch 24 and theyre so hypocritical about whether nukes should be used, when theyre the only ones to have used them...
Nuclear warfare is a terrible thing, In the 1940s however it made you the baddest motherfucker on the block 70 years later Id rather see Nuclear Warfare than Biological Warfare now thats scary shit
first chuck0255, your a dope, the civil war was not about black or white, it was about uniting the states, Lincoln w/ the emancipation only somewhat freed slaves, but the white south bitched and moaned, learn a negro, now every thinks they're a history expert, everyone thinks slavery was ended by lincoln, but i have studied black history and live it, chuck what is a true american? a patriot? this country was built on the backs of slaves.your "relative(u didn't name)" was a racist asshole like u.

Now they say they are printing money for the Northern wars for the warfare-welfare-statist-neo-feudal states, but even in the north, people are rioting on t.v. now.
westchesterny 4 months ago
I guess the implied point was that a region that was back ward thinking with regard to slavery 150 years ago is still back ward with regard to providing health care to its citizens. My guess. Any other takers?
Talltrees84 5 months ago
@Talltrees84 Yes... thought it was the result of the rape of the south economically. The war burned the land, the land was redistributed, the area militarily occupied for years, then economic sanction acts were passed (like 1965 Tobacco Acts that, essentially made illegal the cash crop since colonial times, of NC/KY/VA/, and farms in MS flooded by dam placement, etc., etc. Now, they have about bled the south and print money on wall st. for the yankee wars overseas, lol. My guess.

He also said that whites and blacks were not physically equal.
bbouch111 9 months ago
@bbouch111 Agreed. Also, by 1860, over half of US exports were cotton-related. Like most every other war, it was about money. This notion that the Union was some noble emancipating body that was to swoop down on the South and free the slaves and that the Confederacy was filled with racist, plantation-owning men is just totally false. Unfortunately, that's what's taught in schools today.
Drahthaar422 8 months ago
This is a largely irrelevant coincidence. Your map is deceptive as it cut off the Western regions. It is actually a map of agrarian vs. industrial developement. The green shaded areas have industrial & post industrial (that is: financial & service oriented jobs) which provide health coverage. The South was always lagging in the industrial developement era. Large areas are still agrarian. If you note the patches of blue in the North, those are also rural areas.

zzyzx0788 3 days ago
You will die one day. The chances of you having a prolonged illness before you kick off are rather high. The chances you will have an illness that will require hospitalization during your life are even higher. Why do so many people have no health insurance when they know they will get sick one day? They will pass the cost of their care onto those who act responsible. People who argue for the right to choose not to have health insurance are arguing for someone else to pay their bills.

Superfrog05 1 year ago
Dude, it's somewhat based on class. Most people in the South have lower incomes so they can't afford health insurance, however, it seems as if the mountain west has a lot less people with insurance too. Anyways it's because these areas are poor and agricultural and these people don't have money. Education also is a concern since few southern states have great education. It has nothing to do with the slavery or civil war

Don't want to read & right go ahead and be stupid as a rock. undermyvoodoo22 2 years ago
I continue to not be so interested in a "version 2" of this.

housebrand 2 years ago

Die in the streets if you want too.
elberto9999 2 years ago
We eagerly awigt your proof to show a person in an emergency room being quoted a price and saying "well, just save one finger then." In countries with government run care it is normal to wait a long time for what can be done the same day in the USA. People in Canada come here and people in Britian are pulling their own teeth die to waits. It's on the netm google it. I'll not be cheap like you and pay for quality care instead of waiting for the governemnt.
Srd1126 2 years ago
It's a bad idea to use dentists as evidence of long wait times over here. Most of them have been privatised, and since then, wait times have gone up.
mdt105 2 years ago
From a guy in Canada, yes some of are white times are longer, and yes sometimes you can die on a waiting list, but you can do this in the states all well. If I had to pick between the two ways of doing thing I would stay with the one I got now. I hared a man say once that the difference between an American and a Canadian is that Canadians believe that heath care is a right in the states its a gun. ( sorry for the bad speeling).
29mar1983 2 years ago
Well, as much as I do like Canada and Canadians I have met that last sentence is a problem. Health care for free is NOT a right. Carrying a gun is because that is a right that does not take from others, the right to protect yourself. Saying health care is a "right" is saying someone else is supposed to pay your way. Like in the Declaration of Indepence, rights come from our creator, whomever you believe that to be, they don't come from Congress or Parliment.
Srd1126 2 years ago
The upper part of Missouri, a slave state, seems to have above average rates, if anyone cares to notice...
timetraveler3797 2 years ago
It may all have to do with the fact that the slave-owning states were in an artificial economy; they had no experience with paying for labour, viewing their own labour or the labour of others as a commodity and so insuring that commodity. The South ended up financially backward in other ways too, financial knowledge was not spread as much. Maybe the contribution to pensions follows the same pattern.

I dont need to look up Robert Byrd. By the time I finish he'll be dead lol
Also as far as slave ship go where did I say I loved the North? I just cant stand you rebel flag waving jackasses.
Like it or not you all will always be seen a traitors to the US.
darcskies777 3 years ago
Oh so the North started the war b/c they wanted the slaves jobs? Sotherners controlled Congress & the Supreme Court? 60% of exports from Slavery?
LMFAO!!!
BTW, Robert Byrd is the CURRENT house majority leader and is a former KKK Grand dragon! Yeah, YOUR Democrat party voted for him to be majority leader. So much for "is not the party of today".......
Your a perfect example of how Democratic run schools & teachers unions brainwash & teach revisionist history to morons to keep thier base.
flyboymd82 3 years ago
Reconstruction was further proof that southerners were (and still are) Anti-American
darcskies777 3 years ago
First of all you assumed I'm from the South. I'm not. I'm from Northern Ohio & am a history buff.
Second, its too bad you feel the way you do. Take note, Lincoln who freed the Slaves was born & raised in Kentucky. Grant, the leader of the Union Army was a slave owner until the end of the war.
Things are not as simple as you like to believe.
Third, Southerners were and are very patriotic Americans. They wanted the Constitution followed, "no taxation w/out representation" was NOT happening!
flyboymd82 3 years ago
BTW, I guess I was right when I said "I doubt I'll ever get an answer" about what the 94% of Southerners who didn't own slaves were fighting for & why over 100,000 black men fought for the Confederates & to this very day, thousands of southern blacks still fly the confederate flag.
Its about Southern heritage, culture and pride; NOT hate & NOT racism. The KKK has thier OWN flag!
flyboymd82 3 years ago
BTW, you said on an earlier post "the democrat party of the 1950's and before is not the party of today".
Ever think maybe the South of the 1950's and before is no longer the South of today?? Hmmmm.
Strange how the racist Democrat Party gets a 'texas el'paso" but the Southern people are "still a laughing stock".
Hypocrisy at its best.
flyboymd82 3 years ago
I'm a Southerna!!
We gots lots of them guns down nere in nees parts of the woods....
He, or she, in my case, who laughs last... laughs best!!!

And sorry but "Sourthern heritage culture and pride" seemed to have involved murder, enslavement and destruction at the expense of another culture with its own heritage and it's own pride.
No matter how you try to cover that up that stain will forever be on the south. FOREVER.

Guess you've never read our Constitution have you macflinn??
flyboymd82 3 years ago 6
as a matter of fact, I have. I guess you just don't like the interpretation and precedenct our history has set for the document.
macflinn 3 years ago
Didn't it set certain rights the Federal Gov't had over the States and everything else not mentions was left up to "States Rights"??
Your correct in your last sentence, the Constitution has been trashed by modern leftist, judicial activist Judges who find things in the Constitution that are clearly not there like "abortion rights" and "gay marriage rights"; then say rights that ARE there like the 1st and 2nd Amendments "really don't mean what they say".....
flyboymd82 3 years ago
No they are not there, but that is the beauty of English common law tradition that we continued post independence. The judicial branch, love it or hate it, interprets the law and makes decisions based on the law and the context with whcih they are presented. Certainly some judges go beyond what is palpable to us ( i happen to disagree with gay marriage and abortion "rights") but I wholeheartedly agree with and support the system.
macflinn 3 years ago
I agree with the system too. If it were practiced the way it was intended to be, I'd support it too, but I can't support it when its being abused. Judges ARE supposed to interpret the law; these days they are MAKING the law.
Its been corrupted the the core. Another good example is the Federal gov't telling the States "lower the DUI limit to .08 or we won't give you Federal Hwy funds". Thats extortion and a violation of States rights yet nobody says a word about it. How can I respect that?
flyboymd82 3 years ago 9
you can respect that because a.) driving is not a right. b.) if you are over .08 you should not be drivint (common sense) and c.) if your state is irresponsible enough to let that happen than god damn it the federal gov't should throw it's weight in and say "Hey state(s), tow the line or you're fucked, this pool of money doesn't exclusively come from your state"
macflinn 3 years ago
Your missing the point. Its UNCONSTITUTIONAL for the Feds to do that!
Dropping it from a .10 to a .08 is NOTHING more than a way to grab more money from the peoples pockets. There was no study showing it curtails the problem. NONE!
flyboymd82 3 years ago
How is it unconstitutional? It's in their position to interpret as they see fit. That's why the constitution is a working body. Besides, why would you even opose lowering the DUI limit? You shouldn't be driving if you've been drinking
macflinn 3 years ago
The constitution isnt something that should be interepreted thats the problem today in America we have Judges who think they make and break laws suppresing the will of the American people, and yet even after 200 years we dont have a way to fix it, This Republic has become a bust Checks and Balances has failed when American Presidents Nominate Judicial Leaders something that shouldnt be going on, then the Executive and Judicial Branch gain grounds on the Legislative side, Fuck the 2 party system
halloridder 2 years ago
The constitution absolutely should be interpreted. You are missing one of the major principles of th US Revolution that is completely overlooked. The day we declared independence from Great Britain, one thing and one thing only happened: His Majestey's government no longer had sovereignty, however his majesty's laws became our laws. English Common Law became our law. We carried on continuity of government yet replaced the seat of power. That was the single greatest acheivement of our revolt.
macflinn 2 years ago
When it became apparent that this was not the case (cliff notes here, but if you want greater detail I'd be happy to oblige) based on the way states were competeing with each other we had a convention reform the articles of confederation. A document that was hastily thrown together with an emotion that hated centralized govt but had no foresight. What the founding fathers then did was incredible. They did what the British have failed to ever do. We wrote down English common law and governance
macflinn 2 years ago
into a working document. You should be proud
macflinn 2 years ago
@flyboymd82 the states could not take federal funds, right? then they could do whatever they wanted. if you want funding fromt he feds, then it comes with a catch. you can't have your cake and eat it too.
mattyszow 1 year ago
@mattyszow Have you ever read the Constitution or heard of "States rights"? The Federal Gov't shouldn't be taking income tax from citizens to begin with. Its OUR money, the STATES money, not thiers. They take it, then tell States to do what they want & they'll give some back. Sounds like blackmail/coersion to me & it SURE as hell isn't constitutional.
The Feds are out of control with power.
flyboymd82 1 year ago
@flyboymd82 While I don't disagree with you that the "feds are out of control with power" (they are), I have read the Constitution. 17th Amendment: "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration." -- whether or not income tax is good policy or not is a different conversation; fact is, until the 17th Amendment the income tax very much is constituional
mattyszow 1 year ago
@mattyszow Thats actually the 16th amendment. It was adopted in 1909. What I meant was our Founding fathers would not have approved of an income tax, it was a big mistake & was SUPPOSED to be "temporary" at 2%. Now look at what we are paying! Some pay up to 50% of thier income to the Gov't with local & State included & leftists now feel thats not even enough for the "rich". Thats not the America our Founders envisioned. Thats more like an endentured servitude(AKA slave) State.
flyboymd82 1 year ago
@flyboymd82 16th Amendment, youre right - typo. Asd I'm sure it is a type on your part that it was passed in 1909 (since it was passed in 1913) -- but anyway, one could make the argument that the Founders put the Amendment process into the Constitution solely for the people's reps to be able to adjust as needed. So, you could say it is exactly how the Founders envisioned it. (I'm just playing devil's advocate here, b/c i actually agree with your point of over-taxation)
mattyszow 1 year ago
@flyboymd82 There is a price for copping out. The South has been copping out since 1865. If you don't want to pay for living in this society I suggest you find a new home south of the Rio Grande. No insurance when you have a heart attack; cancer; or a kidney stone? You'll quickly find no hospital wants to take you without ins. Go down to an ER on Sat. night and find out the real state of health is.
nor888vast695 1 year ago
@flyboymd82 If judges make law that means the people and the Congress are doing nothing. Would you like a lawless state?
nor888vast695 1 year ago
@nor888vast695 Speaking of 'stupid as a rock'. Your comments make ZERO sense. You're blanket stereotyping of the south is ignorant & I worked in an ER for 7 years.
PS, its ILLEGAL for a hospital to turn you away for ANY reason. ILLEGAL!! Get it dipshit? You're really 63 years old & this ill informed?
flyboymd82 1 year ago
@flyboymd82 All a hospital has to do is stop the bleeding and then they can and WILL kick you out on the curb. I hate the stupid inbred South. Why can't it just disappear?

@videoguy604 Thanks for showing you're unabated stereotypical ignorance with us all sir. You represent your party well!
flyboymd82 1 year ago
@flyboymd82 Look at the frigging map, it isn't stereotyping when you have statistical evidence you're right. Stupid hicks in the South vote against their own interests.

I thought we already established that the Civil War was not TOTALLY about slavery. It was a byproduct of slavery. You cant deny slavery was a major reason for the C.W. just not the only one.
Those who did not own slaves were fighting for other's rights to have them. Just like when the twin towers fell we wanted to fight those who did it whether or not we knew anyone who died in the towers. It was about loyalty.
And the black soldiers who fought for the confederates where just morons.
darcskies777 3 years ago
Sorry but Southerners just wanted to keep slaves and felt the the Constitution allowed for it (which it did actually)
And Ohio is just like Pennsylvania. Northern Alabama and Northern Mississippi respectively. As for it not being the same as it was in the 50s you're right.
People like that dont even change their mindset they just change the way they go about being anti-American. Instead of "hang the niggers! kill the immigrants!" It's "racially profile the niggers and shoot them in the back"
darcskies777 3 years ago

I doubt they will ever get stepped on because they have thousands of nukes, but you watch 24 and theyre so hypocritical about whether nukes should be used, when theyre the only ones to have used them...

first chuck0255, your a dope, the civil war was not about black or white, it was about uniting the states, Lincoln w/ the emancipation only somewhat freed slaves, but the white south bitched and moaned, learn a negro, now every thinks they're a history expert, everyone thinks slavery was ended by lincoln, but i have studied black history and live it, chuck what is a true american? a patriot? this country was built on the backs of slaves.your "relative(u didn't name)" was a racist asshole like u.
