@tomisbetterthanu - I couldn't agree w/ you more....I just recently got my hands on their first 2 CD's and, this band is wayyyy talented.....I'm in the U.S. and, I have never heard them anywhere here in the states....I kind of accidentally found out about them while trying to find out who sang the song "Waiting" for the NZ tourist commercials, %100 New Zealand....I'm not sorry that I stumbled onto them, I can tell you that!

Now I've directed almost 50 music videos many of which have had NZonAir funding and I have NEVER heard, seen or experienced any connection between political and social statements and the allocation of funding. Its all about the song. Does anyone seriously think any politician takes notice of the songs that get funding? Also I really fail to see what this song/video has to do with the discussion on politics going on, apart from the throwaway comment that started it.

You have to understand the politics of the music industry in NZ; which are primarily social liberal leftwing. Musicians here often set out to prove something, rather than soley express their art.

Now this I agree with :) It's really stupid but songs that are about starving kids or about 'something' the current government has a view on, well they get funding. When they need the funding from a NZ Govt branch though (NZ On Air), you can't really expect more. But it is nice to see that nowdays it is improving (last year or 2) and the NZ music industry (DJ's, record companies, fans etc) actually get more of a say.
