I think it's due to soil poisoning and could be caused by water. The crop and farmers Should do more soil testing for contamination that could be caused by water. I noticed that e coli, salmonella, and water borne salmonella were all closely tied incidents, sometimes within the same year, different farms, states and different farm workers. Food Processing Plants and storage facilities might shed some light. We need better sanitation laws before it gets any worse.
Actually it turns out it was MEXICAN JALAPENOS that caused the latest salmonella outbreak. Not the illegal Mexican laborers or meat packers as in past years but actually agricultural product produced in Mexico, where there is little in the way of hygiene or wages, in this case Jalapenos. Thank you Mexico for poisoning us and also, due to FDA mismanagement, ruining American tomato farmers!
marcaGeronis: It wasn't the Mexicans poisoning your food. It is your own idea of global free markets. Lack of auditing and laws in the producing "emerging markets". This is very attractive for YOUR managers who are outsourcing labor and importing goods to a country which DON'T need imports in first place. You have been tricked into the delusion of a world without boundaries. While your farmers are getting black-mailed and bankrupt, Chinese shit-milk is being sold on the US market.
I don't want global free markets! Far from it. Unlike Obama, Bush, or Clinton I want secure borders, real 'free' trade -not unfair 'free trade' agreements, and substities for US businesses like food, heavy manufacturing. And kick out all the illegal aliens and enact very strict immigration law based on percentages of ethnicity (accept European immigrants in higher porportion), education, & net worth. Along with medical checks, criminal & medical background checks.
