I don't know why, but this song is the only song I can't sing without getting too choked up. The feeling that Randy Travis puts into his songs is unimaginable. I hope I get the chance to see him in concert one day.
@debthompson123able What a shame Deb......hope you got over this.......unfortunately I believe all of us, men and women, have made broken promises to someone we love and failed to keep them. I have been on both sides of this fence..........1 relationship I was making the failed promises, a different relationship I was the one hearing the failed promises, know how u feel.
Randy Travis is by far one of the Best older country music singer, they'll never be anyone that can sing the songs he has sung,he sings them with such feeling. I will listen to his songs forever.
not many singer sound great without any musical instruments, but this man does even though he is playing the guitar. another comes to mind is dolly pardon. but there are so many country singer out now that has to have almost and orchestra and different sound machines to make them sound even decent, so sad. i know of a few who can't carry a tune even with a bucket.
@Saytar7 I agree that Randy Travis and Dwight Yoakam are two of best singers in country music. I don't think they change country music as much as they brought country back to it's roots at a time when it was drifting too much towards "pop". Alan Jackson is in this group too......
We could use some a few more of these types now....
hi mustang19731981, GARTH BROOKS, THATS WHO YA DUCH,BEG, if u were a true country fan u wouldn bitter about who is the best, just sit back relax and enjoy the great music,
no...randy is the original singer/songwriter of this song. daryl used to play in randys band. thats where he got it from...this song came off one of randys first albums in the early 80's
I thank God for contry music....thats the only kind I can relate to....each song has a story with a message....you just got to love it, pick you up when you are down, makes you happy when you are sad....simply takes away your blues....thats country
flawless performance, by a true country legend, what a voice on him, not the same now as it used to be, or was in this video, but hes by far one of the most talented country artists of all time.
a men to that man i mean the new so called country singers wrecked country what they singing it is not even country it is just some solf rock crap. but this is a great song by a VERY GOOD COUNTRY SINGER
Thanks for posting this. In my opinion, Randy is the greatest country singer of his generation. His voice just gives me chills. Perhaps his best song too.
Debateably the best Country song ever. Certainly Randy's best song from his extensive repertoire. Not a great Randy fan but this rendition is exquisite.

this is the most haunting melody he has ever done, by far...
P.S. to the guitar buffs who haven't played this- key of E, with an F#m passing chord.
