I liked the video--most extensive review of the Sony PRS-300 I found. But I am stuck. I don't know what "sync it up means." I bought 2 books on my desktop computer from the e-Reader Store but I can't figure out how to download them into my Reader.
Has anyone been able to get the Sony Reader Library to recognize the actual reader on a Mac? I've everything in the troubleshooting section of the manual and I still can't get Sony's software to recognize the reader. I've given up and downloaded Calibre, which is awesome, but I would still like Sony's software to work.
Have you found anywhere to download ebooks for your PRS 300 at the same price as you can get them for the Kindle? I did a quick search and found Kindle books to be half the price of the Sony versions (with Kobo being the cheapest for ebooks).
@davidbuglass you can’t on the PRS-300, but the PRS-500 does have slots for both memory stick and SD cards. You would need a lot of books to fill up the storage on the 300 though!
@someonewhogivesadamn i find it does work pretty well with PDF files, and the zoom does work, the only thing is if the PDF is image heavy itll try and move them around to format the text correctly :)
you cant put just still images on the reader. The only images that you can display are ones that are in the books themselves, and theres no way to show books by thumbnail, just text views :)
Thanks :) as long as the e-books are in the EPUB, PDF, RTF or TXT filetypes you should be able to put them in the my books folder the software makes for you, then drag them into the ebook library and theyll sync up :)
@TS7019 From what I understand "most" of the ebooks in the B&N store are ePUB format, so they would work. Kobo (Borders) ebooks are 100% ePUB, so they would definitly work. Check your file extensions (look for .epub, .pdf, .rtf, .txt, and i believe .html).
I have a question. I know that the device can read 1 million e books for free on google but the quality of the google books how are they? Do they have books that are in the 1# new york times like let's say Charlotes Web (or something like that XD)
you should be able to plug in the reader and the software will recognise it, then you can either synchronise it with your PC library, or drag and drop the books you want. I just have mine sync up, works best for me :)
Could you tell me how it handles pdf books. i've heard its a lot of pain reading them(and i mean scanned books in pdf format, i've got loads of them) .You cannot zoom correctly, the margins of the book dont fit well. Im asking more for a prs 505 version, but I do believe that there aren't big differences between these two, 300/505.
Well quite a few of the ebooks i've bought are in PDF and the 300 seems to render them ok in medium and large views, but i find the small setting a bit too small as it leaves a huge margin around all sides, otherwise i've not had any trouble with them, even image heavy ones like the manual for the reader.
Fuck E-readers!!! Where's you're eyesight now faggots!?! FUck it in the ass, why don't you kindle my ballsack!!!

Excellent review. I'm getting a used one. Would that be a concern as to the battery life?

Very good review. I have a question (apologies if you did cover it).
If I bought ebooks from Barnes & Noble and Borders...how do I synch/move my ebooks to the Sony Reader?
Cheers!

Some of my ebooks have extra space between some of the words. I wonder if it the book or the reader.

What's the link to the 100 free classics? :o
xXxDragunov14xXx 2 years ago
I found it on the support section of the sony site in the uk, but i think theyve changed it so you have to register your e-reader 1st

can you read the newspaper on it ? what about images?
BludJuice 2 years ago
As long as the newspaper is in one of the readers supported formats it'll work, a PDF would be fine!
It can display images in books, but you can't upload images on their own, the PRS-600 and 505 can display pictures though :)
