Alright...right after they leave New Orleans there is a song (or just an instrumental) as the are riding their bikes .......it is before they rest up for what happens to be their last night when Wyatt explains how they "blew it"...it is the music before "It is alright Ma". What is it?
@backwardk I think the song you are talking about is called "Flash,Bam,Pow" which is an instrumental by the Electric Flag. If i'm wrong, sorry for leading you astray
Easy Rider was produced, directed and starred Dennis Hopper. He even spent a lot of his own money to get the filming done.Easy Rider is Dennis Hopper's baby
Poor Dennis. He is on his deathbed, with his family fighting over his money! He was the sole survivor of the movie Rebel Without a Cause. He's lucky he's lived so long, having done some crazy things. But I loved his comeback in Hoosiers, and all the movies he's done since then (altho he was always the bad guy). My prayers are with you Dennis!
thanks for posting, i was looking for that first song. this movie is so great, and i wish i could cruise the open highways while these classic tunes were playing. sounds like a good time.

i read, in a Deep Red magazine loooong ago, that Bob wasn't happy about the ending, so didn't want to sing-play the track.
not sure if that's accurate, but if it is i can see his point! gotta be careful what you put on film.
in fairness i also read the idea anyway was that cause they went the coke-money route, it was meant to show the bad karma that came from coke overtaking psychedelics (70s / 60s), as the emphasis changed from spiritually evolved to ego-driven consciousness.
Hey - this song is beautiful in this scene - but anybody remember how they used it a 2nd time in the "Skinny Dipping" part later? It was even more heart-felt there... especially at the end of of the scene itself - where it shows Wyatt (Peter Fonda) just staring at, and gently holding a grain from a stalk of wheat ...as it was blowing in the wind. Very touching.
I was riding west on highway 80 i think it is in Arizona and I stopped at this gas station to fill up that looked exactly like one in a scene from this movie. Its the scene where "Porky Pig" fills up the bike and Dennis is scared that he will see the money.
it is in arizona...they started in flagstaff and continued north towards monument valley. i know which gas station you talking about. it is on rt 89. I dont think it is exactly the one, but maybe...not sure about that part...
When you're doin' a slow turn on a chopper, you have to use a combination of clutch, throttle and brake to avoid puttin' your feet down- it looks cooler- that said Fonda is still cool !
i bet those really were the days. a man could just set out on the open road into the wild, hitchikers were seemed friendly, no cops to worry about, man i wish i lived in those years. By far one of my favorite films. easy ridin' is the way to live.
yeah, make an iternational drug deal (a capitol offense), sell it to sheltered Hollywood producer types, take the bread and head out for Mardi Gras. yeah, I've done that. lol
Have you seen the movie? Because then you must know that's not the case, the movie shows the tensions that existed in the US during this time and how they get harassed by cops and rednecks. Anyways, a great movie with beautiful scenery :)
Well, except that one character died when he was hacked with a machete, and the two main characters were shot to death. It really wasn't all that safe even then.

It's funny that the song The Weight in this movie was the original by The Band. When they put out the Easy Rider album, it was the Smith's singing it. WTF?
The first song from the movie was The Pusher. Born to be Wild was the second song, both from Steppenwolf. This movie did have alot of great songs in it!

This video has often been reviled by more conservative Americans, but I think it's an American classic. Anyone who sees it would want to go explore the South West USA.
John Wayne hated this movie. But then again, he at the end of his career and his Western were becoming dated.
it is actually the band's version of "the weight" in the movie. smith only did the version on the soundtrack because of copywright/publishing issues i guess.
Actually gj I propose that we stop this bickering...in honor of the message of 'Easy Rider' which is freedom and being whoever you want to be, I apologize and take back all the stupid shit I've said, okay??
Not to worry Bert, I'm really a pretty laid back guy...in fact, I'm the kind of guy who can laugh at a funeral...especially if it's one for a liberal or a hippy:)
One reason to be a 'Hippy' was just to be a coward and dodge the war in Vietnam. And hey, does anybody remember Charles Manson and his beautiful 'Family' of hippies?? They were really nice and peaceful weren't they? Yeah, that was sooo beautiful how they broke into those peoples' homes and beat and stabbed them to death wasn't it?? The one positive outcome of the Manson Family Murders was the true Death of the Hippy;)
EASY RIDER is one of my favorite movies and I can't count the times I've watched it, and it is NOT about hippies, the only 'hippies' in the film are those dirty faced, filthy fuckin losers at that commune who can barely even feed themselves. Wyatt/Peter Fonda & Billy/Dennis Hopper are capitalists, which is the exact opposite of a hippy, dealing drugs for MONEY to finance their own easy riding lives. So Fuck You JFguitar22.
superjett64,you have so damn RIGHT!!!don't listen to that losers like JFguitar22,your the man!!!wyat and billy is'nt hippies there are social peoples how wants to live a damn LIFE!!!
OK: Easy Rider was iconic. It encapsulated the spirit of the times in an unprescedented way. It was aspirational & innumerable people sought to embed part of what the film conveyed into their own lives. Its soundtrack is suberb and the machinery magnificent.
Uma Thurman's cute - But so are a couple of less dressed birds in Easy Rider ;-) So, what's Pulp Fiction putting on the table by way of competition?
I bet you mostly drive a 4 wheeler! Go on, you can admit that Mr Wasp, can't you?
I suppose the '4 wheeler thing' came from what you might regard as a biker mindset.
The inference intended was that you appear to believe a simplistic, unsupported assertion 'Pulp Fiction's better' proved you right when in fact what it indicated was you didn't seem attuned to / couldn't relate to the free spirit / hippy / motorcycle ethos of the film.
As you focused only on that to the exclusion of the opportunity to expound the objective merits of your postulate it kinda proves my point ;-)
we blew it...

Lazlo Kovaks did a superb job filming this.

it is actually the band's version of "the weight" in the movie. smith only did the version on the soundtrack because of copywright/publishing issues i guess.

Not to worry Bert, I'm really a pretty laid back guy...in fact, I'm the kind of guy who can laugh at a funeral...especially if it's one for a liberal or a hippy:)
P.S.- George W. Bush is my lord and saviour
superjett64 3 years ago
One reason to be a 'Hippy' was just to be a coward and dodge the war in Vietnam. And hey, does anybody remember Charles Manson and his beautiful 'Family' of hippies?? They were really nice and peaceful weren't they? Yeah, that was sooo beautiful how they broke into those peoples' homes and beat and stabbed them to death wasn't it?? The one positive outcome of the Manson Family Murders was the true Death of the Hippy;)

JFguitar22 3 years ago
EASY RIDER is one of my favorite movies and I can't count the times I've watched it, and it is NOT about hippies, the only 'hippies' in the film are those dirty faced, filthy fuckin losers at that commune who can barely even feed themselves. Wyatt/Peter Fonda & Billy/Dennis Hopper are capitalists, which is the exact opposite of a hippy, dealing drugs for MONEY to finance their own easy riding lives. So Fuck You JFguitar22.

pulp fiction is better

Better than pushing Biros up your nostrils maybe ;-)
Better than this?
Be serious.

just a opinion, and i'm not the only one who sayis it
yellowwasp09 3 years ago
OK: Easy Rider was iconic. It encapsulated the spirit of the times in an unprescedented way. It was aspirational & innumerable people sought to embed part of what the film conveyed into their own lives. Its soundtrack is suberb and the machinery magnificent.
Uma Thurman's cute - But so are a couple of less dressed birds in Easy Rider ;-) So, what's Pulp Fiction putting on the table by way of competition?
I bet you mostly drive a 4 wheeler! Go on, you can admit that Mr Wasp, can't you?
Farweasel 3 years ago 2
where did the thing with the 4 wheeler come from ?
yellowwasp09 3 years ago
I suppose the '4 wheeler thing' came from what you might regard as a biker mindset.
The inference intended was that you appear to believe a simplistic, unsupported assertion 'Pulp Fiction's better' proved you right when in fact what it indicated was you didn't seem attuned to / couldn't relate to the free spirit / hippy / motorcycle ethos of the film.
As you focused only on that to the exclusion of the opportunity to expound the objective merits of your postulate it kinda proves my point ;-)

it's nice talking to you :)
