I also heard this song on The West Wing, and it was in one of the most pivotal scenes of the entire series: When we find out Leo has died. Very beautiful and touching.

That's because Dave Grohl is an actual artist, not just an entrainment musician like other "singers" out today. The RIAA and record labels wouldn't recognize talent if it made them a billion dollars.

You are EXACTLY correct. Dave has a "genius" that is rare, and, as per the usual, under-appreciated. He's just brilliant as a musician and songwriter. In a way, I'm glad the mainstream never discovered him because they couldn't have helped him in any way. The only potential in mainstream popularity is watering it down to the lowest common denominator. And, Lord knows - we have enough of that.
