Its cuz the camera is so heavy now that its very fluid since it can't jitter from small movements. Thats the main key to a stedicam anyway, is weight, and also counterbalance, but weight is the biggest factor in a steadicam, thats why it almost looks like a stedicam is used in this. Thanks tho!
And i didn't actually build the flip module! ive tried, its impossible without machines i dont have. It would cost more to build than to buy
how'd you make the flip module? i've been thinking about making one with some cut up mirror and cardboard box, but i'd like to hear your expertise haha
Oh i didn't build the flip module. Its a brevis flip module. I did although have to do some customizing to make it work. But ive tried to figure out how to build a flip module with prisms and or mirrors, and its really just not possible without some serious equipment and knoledge on cutting glass and measurements, Ive figured out how to do it, its just extremely hard to get it to work, plus you'd end up spending just as much as they cost to buy. Not worth it.
oh i see you got a legit one haha. i was just going to make one for my lcd and keep flipping it in post, i'd love to get a professionally made module though
No dolly's or anything. The follow shots were done on a board, but everything else was handheld. The camera is just so damn heavy now that its become very stable.
Its not dark at all, all the shots in this were actually at f/8 with the 17mm. And you can see at the end of the day when the sun was going down I was still shooting with the 17mm at f/8 even. Ive shot all lot of indoor stuff with it to, its not hard, plus thats what lighting is for! Mark the light you need. Lighting should be more important than the lens anyway. but if i didn't have lights and f/4 was too dark, thats why i also have a 20mm f/2.8
No not a flip video camera! lol, it was filmed with a DVX-100b with my home built 35mm adapter, and I just got a "Flip module" to correct the orientation of the image.
how do u get such a steady shot like at 0:10 or like 0:19
XxStiKly 1 year ago
@XxStiKly
The excessive weight of the camera makes movement more fluid, also practice and a steady hand is it really.

very nice smooth footage.... i'm building a 35mm adapter myself, for use with my canon hv30, will probably make myself a cheap flip module too.
are you using any sorta steadicam setup? or is your hand just naturally that controlled? if so, i envy you, haha

Yeah no steadicam used at all, just handheld :P

In my opinion your filming style with the soft visuals and laidback dreamy images will go perfect in a surf film.

Sick work man, still not a fan of adapters but great cinematography and editing!
I also like Ross's question. :)

Sick as always man! Did you use a dolly of sorts, or just use a board? Love the very natural yet smooth camera moves!

@b52stealthbombr
Umm it was shot on 30p
Shutter = 1/60th
35mm adapter
With a 17mm f/4 on most shots
35mm f/1.8 on a few
28mm f/2 on a few
135mm f/2 on a bunch as well

@skategriggs Thanks!

@skategriggs How does the 17mm f/4 perform? Is it really dark? And would you get away with it if it wasnt a very sunny day?
