Chargers fan here, I know its not the Oilers but congrats to the Texans on making their first playoff berth and winning their division! Since my Bolts suck I am jumping on the Texans bandwagon during the playoffs!
All I can say about the Houston Oilers is this....
3rd quarter, Oilers 35, Bills 3.....
Final score, Bills 41, Oilers 38....
God as my witness, when it was 35-3, I said to the 2 guys I was with "It's not enough." Now the Titans are a mess, and the Texans are 10 years in with nary a playoff appearance. I won't even mention the Astros...
I grew up watching the rivalry between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Houston Oilers....It was an AMAZING rivalry!!! By God's grace the steelers prevailed...This team was AWESOME!!! Coach bum phillips was a GREAT coach!!!!!This team is more than worthy of RESPECT!!!!!!! Signed a life long STEELER fan by the good Lord's grace....
I still laugh to this day that phin fans cry that we stole this. The dumb ass that wrote this sold the song to two franchises. Miami just happened to be first and was supposedly his gave team. You should be angry at a sellout song writter dishing a fight dong that supposedly was all Miami Dolphin to the Oilers. But then again, you guys are probably still upset that Finkle kicked the FG with the LACES IN DAN MARINO!!
Listen to both the Miami Dolphin version of the song and Houston Oiler version of the song... Miami Dolphin version may have come first, but it sounds more lame
@machiiniiima the Oilers are only remembered for not making it to the superbowl. Dolphins on the other hand are remembered for going undefeated, winning back to back superbowls, and making it to the playoffs a million times. Oilers sucked and the Texans arent any better.
I was a Hairdresser back in the Disco Days working for Visible Changes. Every Sunday we could go to the Astrodome free and sat on the 50-yard line, witnessing Bum Phillips and Earl Campbell. If you wonder, why we could go every Sunday to the Dome was because there was a thing that was Law here in TX called "Blue Law" – Meaning that all Business had to be closed on Sundays except for Grocery stores and they could only sell food. Visible Changes sponsored the Houston Oilers.
Growing up in Houston, we had the Oilers, Astros, and Astroworld all within walking distance at the Astrodomain. Now the Oilers are gone, Astros are in Minute Maid, and Astroworld is an empty field. The best times of my life were spent there, and now all that remains are the memories. But, oh what memories they were! LUV YA BLUE!!!!
Man, those Luv Ya Blue Oilers will be missed! Remember Kenny Burrough? I found a website where he sells #00 merchandise. It's pretty nostalgic. Search 00Wear to find it.
what a great football team...... I was a young lad back in the late 70's... what a great time watching the Oilers, Browns, and Steelers........ Dan Pastorini, Brian Sipe, and Bradshaw duking it out for Supremacy of the AFC Central.....
Local Houston singer/songwriter Mack Hayes wrote and recorded the song "Luv Ya Blue" after the Oilers' 1978 playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Dolphins Fight song was written and composed by Lee Ofman. Ofman approached the Dolphins with it before the 1972 season because he wanted music to inspire his favorite team. The fight song would soon serve as a good luck charm for the Dolphins that season.
For the uneducated Houston people, 1972 came before 1978
I'm a life long Steelers fan, and I can truly say that I loved the "Luv Ya Blue!" era Oilers teams. Ask the Steelers players from that era who was your most respected rival, and most would say it was the Oilers.
None of the lyrics are true at all. They were never number 1, never in a Super Bowl, And there were teams that moved the ball from goal to goal better then them.
I'm almost certain that this song originated with the Dolphins, rather than the Oilers (I could be mistaken, though). I say this because the song clearly says, "and when you say '____', you're talking Super Bowl."
The only time the Oilers franchise even went to the Super Bowl is when they moved to Tennessee and became the Titans. It wouldn't make much sense to say that in a song.
The '91 Oilers were probably the most badass and underrated team ever assemembled. The NFL just hasn't been the same without them, and I miss them terribly. I sincerly pray no other franchise suffers their fate. I know if my Chargers went out like that, I'd have a fucking heart attack.
Thanks so much for posting this; I hadn't heard this song in years! Texans are my #1 now but Oilers (can't call them the Titans) are still my second favorite.
As a former Houston Oilers Derrick Doll Cheerleader in 1993 and a former Houston Texans Cheerleader in 2003, I have to say...Houston Oilers #1 FOREVER! They are still my favorite team ever and hold a very special place in many Houstonian's hearts, especially mine!
GOD i miss the oilers i hate the texans thanks for the song it reminds me how much i hate the steelers browns boomer and the bengals there will never be anything like the luv yu blu days ever again or bum i mean come on the guys name is oil phillips true
I rest my case.. A lowlife steelers fan comes on an oilers video to say "fukk you" to an oilers fan from way back... go get help..FYI: IT'S SPELLED FUCK YOU....
the pittsburgh steelers have no class they all whine about there losses and brag when they win and there cleanest player hines ward is the dirtiest in the leauge
Growing up in Cleveland in the 80s, I think deep down I hated the Oilers even worse than the Steelers. And hearing this song echoing around the Astrodome after Alonzo Highsmith/Allan Pinkett torched the Clowns for another 8 yard draw play made it even worse. Being able to hear the whole thing is actually somewhat cathartic, as the "chorus" has had a tendency to get stuck in my head at inopportune times ever since.
Funny because as a Steelers fan from Pittsburgh, I have similiar memories. As I look back, I miss the Oiliers and our yearly trip to the Astrodome to hear this song. The Astrodome was always in a frenzy with this song. Thanks for the memories of Luv Ya Blue and Bum Phillips. They def had the best team in 1991 and got screwed out of a Super Bowl by Buffalo.
I remember sitting in 5th grade class on the east side of Houston, and every Friday that was before a home game they played this at the end of the day... along with "Love ya Blue." What a great memory. Thanks.
I kinda wish the Oilers were still around.
