  • what is the new item that allows me to put my microphone on the rails of the rig?

  • damn u are awesome

  • you bearly breath just holding this, did u ever shoot anything with it?

  • explain how audio is hooked up and monitored to cam

  • Nice. Thanks for the review!

  • what Lilliput Monitor was it?

  • "If you look right here at the top u'll notice that its ribbed for her pleasure" lol!lol!!lol!!! 4:19

  • Thanks for the review, although everybody holds a different opinion for it.. As for me.. plastic.. not very friendly. Besides, too expensive for plastic built rig. That rig got to be a joke

  • drool

  • Really excellent and thorough review! Thank you for the help.

  • Great review... But you forgot to walk around and show some test footage

  • Hey, I would really like to know what follow focus system you use and what you think is the best bang for the buch.

  • In situations that you have to follow a subject that is going in doors and outdoors with constant light changing. How do you zoom in to picture, focus, change shutter speed and open an close Iris whith your rig. Or do you put everything in auto and hold to your handles to keep your shots stable.

In other words is it possible run in gun with your rig?

  • "If you look on top, this is ribbed for her pleaseure".

    Your the man!

  • its looks like shit... no counter weight.. you will get tired real quick

  • How are the ball joints connected to the rig? Does the rig come with screws to fit accessories onto it or do the ball joints come with screws?

  • Is it a problem that all the weight is in the front?

  • Considering that you have an external monitor, could you not actually set up the cage on the lower part? Anyways, great review, made me realise that the kit doesn't need to be set up just like that :D

  • Getting a Nikon D5100 for HDSLR shooting because of the easy continuous automatic focus when tracking moving subjects, however will be using follow for films etc. As it has a vari-angle screen, do you think it would be able to pass the cage on the bulldog rig. Also the sound recording format on the camera is LPCM, is that a problem. Would an XLR adaptor for the mics make any difference to the sound quality. Thanks for your help!

  • Wow man, that was a great review. You sounded very knowledgable and are very well spoken and fluent. Good job.

  • Thanks for the review! This system looks ridiculous! All that plastic is frightening. Honestly, all the DSLR cages are a joke. The only ones worth getting are the aluminum ones that hug the body and have power ports, but too pricey. Try doing handheld work on that rig for more than a few hours straight and your back will be screaming. The center of gravity is SO far forward. The people engineering many of these kits have likely never been on a film set IMO.

  • @ChrisCDarnell if I shoot with this rig for more then a few hours I hang a counter weight on the shoulder bars and flip the cage over. Then mount my monitor on the top set of rails and shoot with the camera at chest level. That configuration allows me to pull the rig up closer to my chest. The carbon Fiber build allows me to use a smaller counter weight and still gives me the toughness of an aluminum rig.

  • what microphone do you use?

  • @MrLukasDiSparrow I have 5 that I normally switch between depending on the application.

  • where can buy it ??

  • I purchased the belly pan part from CPM film tools and it cracked in half-My whole rod system fell apart in the middle of a shoot! They also sent me a pair of 13mm rods instead of 15mm. They also cracked from being dropped. Redrock is bad enough folks, how much of a headache do you want?

  • I appreciate your enthusiasm, but take away shallow DOF and you have NOTHING. If you're a professional, you already know many clients (thankfully) have begun to question this "look ma, we're all film-makers now" mentality. DSLRs have not raised the bar; they've lowered it. Tell me, what part of this Franken-rig addresses the horrors of line skipping? Compare the costs + hassles + silly appearance of this "rig" with just buying a proper video camera (along with a GoPro and a T2i for some b roll.)

  • how much is all everything that you have here on this video besides the camera, lens, and the h4n? i want this exact setup and i already have the 7d and the h4n.

  • Hey where did you get those ball mounts for the monitor and the Zoom H4N?

  • @mfudesi Ram ball.

  • berkey systems ftw

  • @AshKilamande All that aluminum makes the berkey system a bit heavy.

  • oh ya I mount my shotgun mic when using it on the right side so it does not affect when carrying with handle.Works fine for me

  • @HighMarkAdventures Yea someone pointed that out to me right after I did this review. Must have had a brain dead moment.

  • I pretty much have the same rig. Got mine when they were first starting out. I see lots of upgrades now on their site. I have no issues with mine either other than I wish the shoulder pad was more like cinevate or redrock to help hold and balance the rig a bit better. I see they offer a counter balance system now.

  • Is there a quick release adapter that will fit a Davis & Sanford FM18 plate? I believe it's only 5mm wider than the 501 plate.

  • @JoeyHatTrick The quick release plate CPM makes will support plates that are the same shape as the 501 but larger or slightly smaller. There QR plate comes with a few extra parts so that you can adjust for size of the opening on the QR plate.

  • I have a question.

When using a monopod/shoulder rig do lenses with image stabilization still help, or can you save money and buy the non-is versions?

  • @charvelgtrs I.S. lenses can be helpful, but they don't do as much good when your camera is on a tripod unless you get up to lenses like the 70-200mm then IS = a must. They do still help some on a shoulder rig or mono pod. But it's really hard to say the price is or isn't worth it.

  • A few other things that bother me is there might be no room for a matte box. Why was that not in your review. Also how the rig would work with longer lenses?

  • @durkex There is plenty of room for a matte box, I don't have the bottom rails extended out as far as I could and the top rails in this configuration would work great for a flip out matte box. The only lens that might give you problems would be the canon 70-200mm f2.8, but that would be the case with almost any rig. If you still feel the rails aren't long enough, just send them an e-mail and they'll probably get you a price with extended rails.

  • That is a big rig !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have a fig rig, and would like to hook up let's say a rodevideo mic, zoomh4n, an lcd screen etc...Just stuff like that. How would i do that? Its DIY. made out of a pvc and stuff. Works pretty good i think. Anyways, let me know. Thanks.

  • @DemonicExpression If I could see some pictures I might have a better idea of what to recommend. Could you message me a photo link or something?

  • @onelonedork will do. Ill send some pics soon. Really appreciate it.

  • What do you think about the jag35 rigs

  • @samuraiking31 I have to admit that their yellow hardware looks sharp, but I always thought they were a little bit pricey. I do have a few Jag35 products like the Dfocus follow focus. I also think that there Electronic Remote Follow Focus is a good move. At the moment about 80% of my rigs are built from CPM FILM TOOLS parts. The other 20% is a hodgepodge of left over parts from rigs I used to use.

  • Really appreciate the info Man, I hadnt even heard of CPM before this!I dont know if I'm missing it, but what follow focus are you using? I would be pretty sold on this rig (largely cause of the price) but I like shooting with some pretty small primes and it looks like without being able to push the camera all the way through that it could be tough to use my little 50 mm. Do you ever find this to be an issue? Thanks!

  • @maxsponky I've been able to slide my camera forward enough that this hasn't been a problem (even on small lenses like the Nikon nikkors) and if you have the t2i the camera will fit through the center. The follow focus I'm using is a Dfocus FF. If you're still concerned with space then check out there Bulldog Shoulder Shooter Kit. Swap out the front bracket with the half bracket and your set.

CPM rigs are a good price and they're also light weight and very rugged (all carbon fiber built).

  • @onelonedork Thanks for the input! The bulldog does look a little more suited towards my MK2. I was thinking about grabbing one of those full Proaim rigs......but it almost looks too good to be true, and it seems like theres a lot of complaints about cheapness of it. Do you like your Dfocus? Checked it out....great price! any matte boxes you like? Sorry bout all the inquiries, but your info in the past has been very helpful. Cheers

  • @maxsponky I'm not a fan of proaim. They cut corners by using cheap metals and inadequate connectors. The Dfocus follow focus is a great unit. My only complaint is that I bought one before their latest update (which looks better cosmetically). I don't really use a matte box, just never had a need for it.

  • So are you saying don't waste your money with proaim?

  • @durkex Some people like proaim equipment, if you are thinking about going that route you might also want to consider GiniCinema rigs from Korea. They can be found on ebay by searching DSLR RIG.

  • awesome stuff i have been an anolog shooter for far too long an this seems to be a cheaper idea for a quality shoot

  • @xdarkness32 CPM FILM TOOLS makes some great stuff!

  • will the shotgun mic not just slide forward in the clamp? looks like almost 2 inches of sliding room.

how is the Zoom connected to the camera?

  • @zvaios I actually changed the configuration for better microphone placement.

  • will the shotgun mic not just slide forward in the clamp?

how is the Zoom connected to the camera?

  • how is the Zoom connected to the camera?

  • @zvaios An adjustable ball mount is used in this video. I have since upgraded to a friction arm.

  • Great reviews.. congratulations from Panama republic

  • @Carlodimaximus Thanks!

  • thanks so so much for this post

  • @lp22hot No problem! I was looking for a good video review, and there was none up. It is a great rig.

  • ribbed for her pleasure.

    xD

  • @mecha890 lol

  • What lens is on the rig

  • @TommyPh500d That is a sigma 24 1.8.

  • 2:58

  • dont care for that rig much. good informative video illustrating a broad amount of info from this rig. thanks man!

  • @formattester6 No problem. I use it because its very light and has lots of mounting points. When i have to carry it around all day every little bit helps. I've completely reconfigured it and will be posting a video on that soon.

  • you could solder an angled xlr connector to your microphone cable and voila, you have perfect handle access!

  • @kentabenno Actually I found a much better place to mount it. But i did try that first. I'll post a video on it after the holidays.

  • Dude awesome video.. Think I'll end up getting this rig. A couple questions though.. Where'd you get your extra hot shoe mounts? And how do you mount a monitor to this rig?

  • particular.

  • stalker

  • @dudeproductions100 You have to subscribe to stalk, don't you?

  • @onelonedork ??? I called you a stalker not me. that rig makes you look like a stalker or pervert

  • That rig is very humble. I bet people can't even tell your recording movies.

  • @charvelgtrs what's that on your shoulder? It's a puppy, don't worry about it.

  • @onelonedork

    That's one expensive puppy.

  • @charvelgtrs It wasn't to bad if you picked up a copy before they updated the site it was about $300 less then it is now. I actually have another configuration for gorilla film work that mounts a dual channel wireless mic and the h1 in a much smaller package. It just depends on what kind of work your planing on doing.

  • exactly what did you use to mount the monitor and the zoom? can you tell me everything?

  • @redfranchise I'll put a video out on that this week.

  • @onelonedork thanks because although i wanted to make my own unique configuration ,i would love to know what to use, because if im planing on buyin all this stuff, and i cant put it together. well thats just a recipe for disaster

  • @redfranchise video is up.

  • changing beard and hairstyles freak me out...wtf...

  • Great Vid!

Where did you order the wind muff for the Azden SGM-2X ?

Does it fit well on the 15.75 in barrel?

  • is this isetup usable if im not using an external monitor.

As in does an external view finder like the z- finder, cyclops, or hoodman meet the eye comfortably with out the sidewinder parts?

  • @OneTrackMinds If you plan to use a hoodman or cyclops, You'll want to use an offset bracket. For the price of a hoodman add $120 and you can get a Lilliput monitor. I find it to be a bit more ergonomic.

  • @onelonedork

Appreciate the vids and the quick response!.

Ill be using this rig for shooting in Baghdad where im currently working.

It gets a bit hard to see sometimes with all the dust and while i can compensate and make do while taking photos.

Im completely new to DSLR video.

U think im better off getting a bulldog with a monitor, or a cage with the sidewinder part? I like the idea of being able to just run and gun with the viewfinder. Plus not more than 10 minutes ago i ordered an LCDVF

  • @OneTrackMinds If your working in harsh conditions like that, I would say Try what you've ordered and if it doesn't work for you, Sell it and try something else.

  • Where did you get your monitor and connector so you can attach the monitor to the grips?

  • @allanlgeorge I had some old Aquatica balls laying around. Greenlife-style on ebay also sells a great Lightweight Variable Friction Power Arm for $45 That will do the trick for a bit cheaper.

  • cheers! i guess with any rig u get you would have to slightly adjust it! great review. Subscribed!

  • I find these new SLR's fascinating. But by the time you get the 7D, lense, H4N, Shotgun mic and rig... Why not just get a prosumer camcorder?

  • @dallasbagley I do have a number of prosumer camcorders, and the last feature length film I worked on was shot on 3 hv20 rigs, and this review was shot on an hf s100. The main things d.o.f. lowlight performance, and undercover shooting. Plus production stills, and resale value.

  • Great review

  • I don't know if I'm the only one seeing this... but put on the closed captioning... around 41 seconds it gets trippy...

  • lol~~ "ribbed for her pleasure" nice review

  • the only bad thing about dslr cameras is that when you buy a new camera its ancient the next day

  • good job on this review- very informative, like the + - of the rig etc...

  • Looks pretty cool. Great review. Keep up the good work.

  • One of the best video reviews I've seen. Hope CPM watched this - you've made some good suggestions for improvement.

  • @SmilingDave In 3 months they've corrected almost everything, and the redesigned model is looking great!

  • Where did you get your mounts for your monitor and H4N?

  • @RyanBlackLight the ball mounts are from aquatica and ram. The zoom is mounted on a swivel from an unused flash adapter.

  • lol @ ribbed for her pleasure...

so many subliminal in this video..and so many opportunities to say "thats what she says"...
