awesome video. go the x trail. yes it may no be a full off-road amazon river crossing vehicle..... but is quite capable as this video shows. just got one last year and I can't wait to start my 4x4 adventure here in aussie... is a good starting point.

Who gives a rats arse, he's having a good time and at least giving it a go. The little x trails are not too bad considering their set up. Not everybody has a fully lifted off road weapon. Pull your heads in.

For all you people who obviously dont own an x-trail, why bother logging in to youtube and comment and say how bad it is. You obviously have never driven one so why comment? What are you backing your comments on? Obviously it does not have low range gearing like say a land cruiser but we are not trying to go extreme hardcore offroading. We are having fun and going places and camping where you cannot get to in your standard sedan. losers.

The X-Trail seemes, according to this video, to be one of the more capable soft roaders on the market. Most of them, when they find themselves in difficult terrain, would start spinning the front wheels endlessly, and only when all forward momentum had ceased would they send drive to the rear wheels. It's a good idea, but it simply doesn't word in practice. Soft roaders like the RAV 4 and the CR-V are the communists of the off roading world; they're full of great ideas, none of which work.

No Body On Frame chasis, no low range gear box, then, there is no real off roader in it. Sedan car platform based SUV, like Xtrail, is not a real off roader. Nothing else to say.

@dave777blaster No thanks...I would rather preffer a Jeep Liberty or a Grand Vitara 4x4....Xtrail is not bad, but it is not enough for Off Roading, even a Forester can do more than the Xtrail.

Have you ever seen the Xtrail ad in TV? They never show the vehicle in tough off road situations...just in dusty roads or near the beach or on grass and city/on road driving. Once again, not a bad car, it is comfortable and useful, but it doesnt meet its name.

@wtrdogg20 the liberty cant handle the bad stuff nor are they recommended for it. The Xtrall is best in class for light off roading and snow covered roads

but I am not saying the liberty is bad for off roading it is more capable than the xtrail but the differnce is that the liberty is not even close to an off road truck.

you'll want a used vehicle with a locker dif for that xterra or YJ for example

Dude, the Liberty has LOW RANGE OR 4WD LOW, same has the Grand Vitara....The Xtrail will never be better than a Liberty with Body on Frame chassis and low range, same as the Vitara. Xtrail is unibody and has a simpe an automatic 4WD mode with just 50/50 torque splittering. I dont know what are you talking about. Other options for me are the Wrangler, or even a Jimmy, that can do way more than the Xtrail.

@dave777blaster For off roading in a small SUV, as I said before, I preffer a Forester...it does have lock differencial, it can actually send all power and torque to the wheels with best traction, even if that means one wheel only. I insist, the Xtrail is nothing special....you can even see there is no off road scenes on its TV Ad.

@wtrdogg20 we go offroading with several cars all the time...RAV, Forester, Xtrail, CRV.......mostly it depends on the driver skills as those cars are built for similar purpose....but have to say CRV strugless the most

I took my X-Trail to Landcruiser Montian Park. Did all the extreme track no prolems, they are an unstoppable offroad machine. Go Anyware beast!
