This song depicts how Mick is with Beth. He has protected her from afar which eventually turned into love. Since he has been standing on the sidelines for so long watching and loving from afar it is a little difficult to just jump on in with her now. He is kinda glad she has a boyfriend because that gives him a convenient excuse to not be hands on with her but whether she realizes it or not she became his when he saved her from that demented college student in the 1st episode...Wonderful job!
