I also sing as a hobby LOL thus the email address :)
Hey I'm big into arrowhead hunting. I have a channel on youtube it's called TheNcHunters. Do you think you could comment on one of my videos telling me what an Adze is please thanks, cause I have found some that look just like that. Thanks!
@otepgod This is the first site I ever found (1993), and was for a long time my best field - over 600 artifacts so far! But the farmer switched to low-till and that was it for this honey hole. I still go there a lot, but it's not like "the good ol' days." The point at 4:30 is heat treated Galena Chert. It very commonly turns pink, red, blue, gray, purple, all kinds of pretty colors when treated, depending on what temperature it reached. I know this from my own experimentation.
@otepgod I would venture to guess that most of what you find by you is also Galena or Oneota cherts. You will probably find some Moline chert, too, being near the Rock River. Moline is rare on the sites I hunt. Probably 98% of what we find in So. WI is Galena/Oneota and Prairie du Chien, and a little Hixton too. I've also found Knife River, Burlington, Cobden, Moline, Rhyolite, Quartz, and even Indiana Hornstone on my sites.
by the way, If I were you, I'd bring a big shovel. You'll find a whole lot more up on the ridge by digging. DIG DIG DIG. Good luck my hunting buddy. Mark.
My friend, if you don't spend much time on the ridge top, you are overlooking the best finds of your life..That's where the most relics will be found other than water sources. Good Luck.
These are fine examples of crudes. I step over such artifacts on my outings. I wont even pick up anything under a grade 9. Good luck in your future studies.
Of course I did! Never know when I'll find the other half, so I always keep broken stuff. I've reassembled quite a few broken pieces, some found many years apart. I've stopped collecting every damned blank though, after a while it gets boring marking them, and they take up too much space, and have little collector value. Not that I'm in it for money! Never sold a piece and never will.
Enjoyed it very much. Well done. Only suggestion: The pan at the beginning was a little too quick and made everything blurry. A little slower will be good. I liked seeing the panorama of the site. Look forward to more!
I enjoyed the video, but the production was a little"over-done". I'm a simple person who just likes to see the insitus with the walk up, and then the piece pulled from the dirt or creek, with an in-hand shot. Maybe it's just me, but I dislike it when music, or chanting indians, and dramatic effects are added. There's a guy who does really good simple videos. "Steve From Missouri" I think it is.
Thanks to all for the nice compliments... FYI I'll try to put more "money shots" in future vids. More meat and less bun! All us point hunters are the same ain't we? Just greedy to see the next one... Me too!
Man Barry that's a good looking spot overlooking that river! IT's great to find them "Tee'd" up like the purple one! Will have to check out your other video's this evening (Shuuuu at work)....nice, later!
I like that expressioni "Tee'd up." Exactly right. Yeah, that's always nice when they're sitting on a little pedestal, almost like a little gift just waiting for ya.
