The Neo Darwinian synthesis was established in the 1930 and 40's. This the theory that has been taught for the last 70 years. Neo meaning new, as apposed to classical Darwinism.
What are you asking me for? I thought that you were supposed to be the expert who knows more about religion than any theist and who speaks for all atheist as in...... "because one is an atheist we know more about religion than pretty much any theist"
Origins, ancestry, creation and neo Darwinism are not banned from discussion in catechism.
Maybe your knowledge is really only limited to your own personel experience in catechism in the 50's and 60's.
@benthemiester It is apparently, I said so. I went to school in the 50s-60s and what that has to do with catechism is catechism is the studty of the catholic bible....not science.....when I went to school... And what the hell is NEO darwinism anyway.... sounds like a creationist misnomer..
When you adopt a label you adopt the positions of that label and therefor are compelled to think within the prescribed framework of that label. @natdrip May be when you "adopt" a label that happens but to me it is what it is, a label and I didn't even "adopt" it it was placed onto me by others.....if one allows words to have an effect on them in such a deep manner then they are no better than the delusional whom they ridicule... it is just a description after all...
When I went to catechism they got upset because I questioned neo Darwinism. They couldn't seem to answer the questions that I asked. Now that I'm older I have come to realize that not only neo Darwinism but even abiogenesis, just like pangenesis was, is a fairy tale for adults which includes many atheist.
@benthemiester They taught you "neo-Darwinism" in catechism??? @JstNEarthling I think you missed Sam Harris' point. In any other discourse do you define yourself by what you DO NOT believe? Do you define yourself as an anti stamp collector because you don't collect stamps?
@mrgejwaites Oh, I didn't miss his point I just think it's too much "thinking" which we seem to be "accused "of doing...hehehe.. by the "tree of knowledge" folk remember? They came up with the new supposed attack at intelligence so their children will want to obtain "truth" from a creationist point of view and therefore flunk school. They actually thought that calling the intelligent "elitist" is an attack.. funny people those theists/christians..remember don't eat fruit from tree of "knowledge"
@mrgejwaites But anyway it's a moot point because he has joined the Dawkins / Hitchens group and proudly calls himself an atheist.... So says the man himself...you can find the video on youtube..."Harris joiins Dawkins and Hitchens issuing arrest for the pope"...
@JstNEarthling Not sure Harris joining Hitchens and Dawkins in issuing an arrest for the pope means he dons the atheist title. But more to the original point you summed it up in the first few seconds of your video "I don't know what your trying to say" illustrates your clear lack of understanding of his talk. Seems like your bashing a talk because you cannot understand it. Harris debates against religion he isn't endorsing religion, you clearly missed the point.
@mrgejwaites Hell, man you think too much about some things, I wasn't bitching really, just making my point.....calm down s'ok...he did call himself an atheist and proud to say so...geeeze it was just a statement
@JstNEarthling I am calm buddy. I'm free to comment on an open forum where I please. Your now downplaying your entire video and evading the actual point, Sam Harris' talk went over your head.
hey come on does it matter? also the story bout jesus at the wedding-yes wine was different then water wasnt always good to drink and wine was known to no have the possible contaminates that water would have-plus it was a wedding. I know this is just a moot point but if anything I would have said the story meant that aclohol isnt as big a sin as people would suggest, or like you thaqt he wasnt the son of god lol
@outofthegreenmist you are a liar and have no idea what DR DAWKINS may have said because you wouldn't dare listen to him or read him. He has necver said he is agnostic that is where I got my fence sitter definition from you lying piece of shit baby boy....I see you're probably circumcised.....OIC anger at the parents instead of the priest.
@outofthegreenmist So you're a fence sitter but you can't see the trees in front of you? "Oh I think I'll attack his hero that'll get him" nyah nyah nyah
A selection of comments left for me by Robertjcksn40:
The closest thing JstNFatfuckinghippieslob has seen to combat is the front cover of his Sgt. Pepper album...Most of his videos are about circumcised penises, hating religious people, and talking libtard babble...It's coward leftist brits like you why your country is failing...Oh wait why would it matter, you sound more like a Chamberlain type of Brit. Fucking coward!
@outofthegreenmist You know you're going a little too far. You're making me want to look your loser confederate states mother fucker redneck cracker faced bitch niggah. Keep calling me out you little friendless prick.....Oh look 3 friends and 6 subs. what a popular southern 'gater fucker
So if atheist is just a word why all the fuss about Harris suggesting we use a different one.
/watch?v=CKIgFCRTzYs
The water to wine miracle was always my favorite. I always wonder why Joseph didn't quit carpentry and go into the wine business. Not very entrepreneurial.
Agnostics are not fence sitters. This is a common misconception. Also, Sam Harris does not bitch or moan or whine. If you had listened to his talk, you might have understood his point. Many theists nowadays identify atheist with "bad" immediately, like its a disease. What he proposes is that atheists do not label themselves so, and so they are taken more seriously, and not so marginalized by theists who just hate "atheism."
@ItsEasyIfYouThink That's not what the point was at all you obviously did not listen closely. I may have went a bit too far with my point but he was still talking about the way people use the word atheist without thinking about whether we KNOW god doesn't exist. And I called bullshit, we don't even think about god so how can we have a debate about how to say god or atheist. They're just labels after and they were not given to us by us...
@ItsEasyIfYouThink It's not a misconception at all, that is exactly how I see it. They say they are not sure so they believe just in case..And the atheists I know don't mind calling themselves atheist at all and a regular guy such as myself doesn't dwell on the label every time we hear it or use it. Those who look at it in a bad way have always looked at "non believers" in a bad way so there's nothing new. We don't want to accept it any more we are proud radical atheists and we will fight now.
@ItsEasyIfYouThink I agree. I'm not a fence-sitter. I'm not hedging bets in case heaven really exists. I'm simply acknowledging the limits of human knowledge.
@JstNEarthling Well, you know, when our species finally becomes extinct - as it will, as even the Christian writer CS Lewis acknowledged, as an educated man interested in science - we'll still just be scraping the surface of all there is to know. We're just little organisms on a speck of cosmic dust and the more we know, the more we realise there is to know. If it makes you happy, I'll call myself an atheist, but I still maintain that there is a possibility that an intelligent entity beyond...
@JstNEarthling You can't just right someone off because they're a Christian. The man was highly educated, well-read, a talented writer and friends with many Oxbridge scientists. The point I'm making is that he knew, from a scientific point of view, that the human species was as likely to become extinct as was any other species and that there was likely to be life - even intelligent life - on other planets. Hardly the views of a fundamentalist who looks to the Bible for prophecy.
@outofthegreenmist Sure I can, I just did. Not only that but even Dr. Dawkins when confronted with a highly regarded friend told him whether he knows science says the Earth is billions of yeARS OLD, HE STILL BELIEVES IN YOUNG EARTH BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT SCRIPTURE says (oops cap lock).. Dr. Dawkins says then he too is delusional and he has "written him off" as a friend because like me if someone is that delusional then one must be careful for there is no telling what they might do for one.
@JstNEarthling I meant 'write off'. You do know, of course, that if Carl Sagan (I nearly wrote Carl Perkins! LOL!) were still alive, he'd say anyone who believes in the Roswell Incident is deluded?
@outofthegreenmist So, how does that have any bearing on my position. I know all about the Roswell incident and unlike the hiders in government and the so called skeptics don't remember that it was the Army that reported finding a disc shaped craft, not conspiracy theorists as they are called. 3 days later they said no we were wrong it was w weather balloon. So I could care less what Sagan would say about that. As a matter of fact I'm one of those who knows about ETs when I was in SOG-4.
@JstNEarthling Well, I think Sagan - of Blue Dot video fame - knew a thing or two about the likelihood of aliens traversing interstellar space to visit this rather insignificant neck of the woods. I enjoyed reading Von Daniken books when I was younger because young people like to imagine that the world is a more interesting place than the rather dull reality inhabited by their parents. I'm with people like Philip Klass on UFO's and have been since the pre-millennium UFO hysteria of the 90's.
@outofthegreenmist So, you're an agnostic but you can't get your head around the idea that there is more than just we in this universe and likely there are 1000s more intelligent species just by random chance. Besides that I've been privy to the things our government doesn't want people to see I told you when I was in SOG..(special ops) regardless of the OSA I'm too old to be afraid of those pukes. So I know what I've seen and you only know what you think.
@JstNEarthling I think we may have discussed this before. I have never denied the possibility of the existence of life on other planets (interestingly, neither did - once again - the Christian writer CS Lewis). In fact, I'd be surprised if there wasn't life on other planets. I seriously doubt that life from other planets has ever consciously visited this planet, or ever will, unless we mean microorganisms trapped in ice in comets. UFOs are the modern angels, fairies, etc. - it's all in the mind.
@outofthegreenmist So, you just don't even believe what I told you just 20 hours ago? You don't believe Buzz Aldrin or any of the 20 or so other astronauts that have come forward and told what they've experienced etc.
Do you not see the craft in frescoes painted 100s of years ago. For crying out loud this planet has been visited so many times over the centuries and it is more than evident. Especially nutty is those who laugh at the idea of ET yet believe in super heroes and magic or don't NOT.
@JstNEarthling What? How is it? Get real, man, it's what any skeptic worth his salt would say. Every era has its ghosts, fairies, angels or little green men in UFO's. I've said it before and you never reacted like that.
@outofthegreenmist "any skeptic worth his salt" would not be a fence sitter they are decision makers...deciders...had to, couldn't help it, you're sounding silly..... you said "little green men" not I. Do you remember who reported a downed flying disc in Rosewell??? The fucking Army !!! Not "conspiracy theorists". You are obviously a fence sitter and therefore not a "skeptic worth his salt"...but you will try to intellectualize it again I'm sure.... I'm tired of your ignorant bullshit.
@outofthegreenmist you get "REAL" with your "christian CS Lewis constantly in my fucking face. Fuck you just because you call yourself something you still believe in this separate super intelligence called god and that's all I need from a fence sitter to prove my point......so fuck your green mist.
@JstNEarthling (part 2)... our imagining is behind everything. Who the hell am I to say it isn't so? How could I possibly know that? However, if that being wants to have a personal relationship with me, then it is up to he/she/it to make contact and not up to me to pray on my knees just in case. Its existence is a possibility, but not something that consumes my waking hours. I don't live in fear of it. If it exists, it is surely more intelligent than to judge or punish dust mites like us.
@ItsEasyIfYouThink Theists have always associated atheism with evil, devil worship and we are known to be the lowest on the totem pole in social responsibility according to the christians, so that's nothing new. Now listen at 60 YO I think I have a pretty good idea of how we are perceived and it has always been in the negative and the atheists I know could care less whether theists think we're serious or not because they already have the wrong idea about us anyway. continue...
@ItsEasyIfYouThink The "fence sitter" position I talk about is not a MISS conception at all, rather it is common knowledge that agnostics are just fence sitters. They make excuses by trying to give it an intellectual bent and the position is really black and white to guys like me...girls too...hahaha....If you really have to feel you're being intelligent and appeasing of religions as an agnostic, I say bullshit. Either there is or is not a magic super hero. Born atheist, it's obvious to see.
This guy sure is puerile. Harris is the most mellow guy around, and all he said is it's somewhat pointless to label yourself as something you don't agree with. I don't call myself an Ahoroscopist.
Plus it has much less of an 'us vs. them' mentality and we can call people out on their stupid ideas without being represented in the media as some sort of fringe subculture.
@Fenixx117 Ahhh but lately Sam has come around to my way of thinking and now proudly calls himself ATHEIST.... s'ok....we will win in the end, religion will be eradicated and the leaders shot and abused.
@outofthegreenmist I agree that if the motive is to say "Hey look at me I'm better than you..." then it's ugly and won't move the debate in any direction. However I think people like Harris and Dawkins are worried about humanities mental health. If my doctor told me that I needed a prescription I would question it and do my own research first but I would respect the fact that, in the field of medicine, he is better than me. I enjoyed our chat:)
@outofthegreenmist Innocent till proven guilty is the saying but I see your point. Which god do we prove doesn't exist first. There are so many. When deciding what's worth proving doesn't exist there has to be reasonable evidence that it might. Otherwise we have to prove anything that I can imagine doesn't exist. I don't know 100% for sure that the world is roundish so do I build a space ship and see for myself or accept the reasonable evidence? You see the dilemma:)
I see two more people have voted the video down, making it 4/4. I just used my vote to make it 5/4 in your favour. I don't always agree with what you say (though I agreed with you re. Dawkins and in seeing off the infamous turdbogmaster), but I like your style and support free speech.
@outofthegreenmist I see where you're coming from but again if someone says they believe that Elvis is their toaster or if I believe that you are the devil it would be just as valid as a belief in god. Think of why you are using letters and words and not psychic telepathy to communicate here. I can't prove that you don't have telepathic powers but isn't it reasonable to say that you don't?
@outofthegreenmist I would put forward that if the nature of something is beyond our comprehension then it is of no significance. There may be an infinite number of things that we'll never know so why use one of them (god) to justify anything. We might as well be talking about Zokest the sparkling gerbil.
@heeh2 Don't worry mate, I know what they mean alright. I still DON'T know what, 'I'd be a liar if I didn't end the conversation' means, though! Any ideas?
@outofthegreenmist LOL! Before you jump down my throat again, I meant: ATHEISM - like religion - is NOT about evidence and facts (many scientists are religious) but about faith.
@outofthegreenmist Why can't you admit you're a delusional deity worshiper. You have not said one word to the contrary. Everyone of your arguments are for more and more goofy blatherskiyte you call evidence and try to convince us you're agnostic in the hopes that we are as ignorant(stupid) as christians etc....sorry you're a frickin christian and embarrassed by it. Being a profiler, you make it easy....
@outofthegreenmist Why are we not capable for "that kind" of comprehension when in we are discussing that very subject right now.? If you want to keep your mind open to the idea of the universe starting by a magic man then so be it but I in turn will ridicule that position as to me it is a delusion and in the end absolutely unnecessary to the human condition. As a matter of fact religions of every kind have been nothing but the boon on mankind and really good for nothing .God(s)r not necessary.
When everything is a possibility, holding the position that 'everything is a possibility' is silly. You think Atheism could be dogmatic, but Atheism is falsifiable....so that's just a mistake.... I think you would have a convincing argument if serious Atheists weren't okay with being wrong---but that's the entire point. Atheism is falsifiable, just like science is; If you prove me wrong, that means you made me smarter...Agnosticism is a moot point.
The unknown heavenly creator Geniuses might exist. But in a practical sense they do NOT exist, bcz. you do not know any property you can ttribute to them
For example: The mere idea, that (a) G-D is hungry for worship is a priori INSANE. I could rightfully respond that (a) G-D strictly DESPISES any worship.
(A) G-D could even provide an afterlife only for ruthless people that sinned a lot
The inevitable from lack of knowledge of number and properties is "there is NO G-D"
1:08 Yep, nobody is BORN a theist. Nor are they BORN German, Irish, Italian, or speaking French or English, or preferring pizza to fish and chips. So what? Religion is a function of human language, as old as language itself. Why? Because the human brain likes to tell stories. How are we going to get rid of something as old as mankind itself? It'll never happen. All you can do is criticize the wrongs of religion, but you'll never dispense with it. Like disease, a new one will pop up somewhere!
0:50 IMO, an agnostic is NOT a fence-sitter, but a person who admits they can't possibly KNOW there is NO god, because that kind of knowledge is beyond the human mind. Dawkins admits as much and only lately has classed himself as an atheist, and not as an agnostic, which he referred to himself as in the preface of my edition of Selfish Gene. Not believing in man-made religions and not believing in the possibility of a creative intelligence behind the universe are two DIFFERENT things entirely.
Absolutely everything is a possibility. We count that fact when we say 'god doesn't exist'. There is no real difference between Atheism and Agnosticism besides probably disinterest with the subject.
@heeh2 How does saying, 'god doesn't exist', demonstrate an acceptance that everything is possible? Saying, 'I don't believe in YOUR God, but accept that A god MIGHT exist,' is more open-minded. That is my kind of agnosticism. As I understand it, it is also Dawkins' position.
Because if you want to talk about what it means to know something, an element of uncertainty is required. Socrates told us that you have to try as hard as you can to understand the depths of your own ignorance to have any acquaintance with knowledge....I think that's what he meant.
@heeh2 I agree. I would just like to see that uncertainty given a little more acknowledgment. Calling agnostics fence-sitters doesn't do that. At times, some atheists appear as dogmatic as their religious opponents. Is atheism a religion? Does it require faith? If it isn't knowledge (because such knowledge is impossible for the human mind), then is it not, therefore, a belief? Like fairies and UFO's?
I think I've had enough conversations on the Internet to not want to talk to people and try to convince them of anything anymore. If someone doesn't understand the constant need for scepticism, its not my fault. If someone wants to believe that atheism is a religion, I've learned to inform them that they are only crippling themselves, and leave it at that, because I don't have the time. I don't think I understand your UFO question.
@heeh2 LOL! I'm crippling myself, am I? I asked a question - unlike you, I did not assert a position. I asked, 'Is atheism a religion?' If it is not evidence-based and is simply a belief dependent on faith - not on evidence - is it not, therefore, no more relevant than the religions it supposedly denounces and criticizes (one can do that as an agnostic)? Surely agnostics are sceptics, too? As a sceptic, I thought you would understand my point about UFO's. What is it you DON'T understand?
Well, at first I wasn't talking about you, but now that I see that your seriously asking if atheism is a religion, I'd be a liar if I didn't end the conversation.
@outofthegreenmist But you're a piece of shit trolling agnostic who is a christian in disguise as is evidence by your constant reminder of the "christian"CS Lewis....so fucking what. Hell, the head of the genome project was a creationist and finally fired because he wouldn't keep his mouth shut so why don't you shut up before I fire you....
@heeh2 A lot of people try to equate knowledge of the universe and it's rational possibilities with mythological magic. When in reality IMO it was the superstitious humanity who saw extraterrestrials of different kinds and automatically thought they were gods.....except the Sumerian that is, a very practical lot who called these visitors by what they said themselves, "Men from the stars" (The Ananaki)
@outofthegreenmist Gerald says that he knows that THOSE G-Ds that "exist" (= in humans' skulls) actually do not exist. Everybody that has studied and understood (admitted before oneself!!!) namely the multiple insanity in "Holy" Scriptures inevitably learns that these G-Ds do not exist and that they are mere pathetic ATTEMPTS to describe a totally UNKNOWN NUMBER of heavenly creator Geniuses (0,1,1000s,1000s?) with totally UNKNOWN PROPERTIES (one of these might be that they even do not exist).
@outofthegreenmist Hate to argue with you Nist but that is not Dr. Dawkins position, I know this because I have met him and talked to him personally and have come to the conclusion that he and I have an almost exact profile of disgust at religions and their perpetrators. He loves to play the semantics game with the fundies and some people take a lot of his, let's say prop positions, as the truth and actually call him agnostic, satanist, Illuminati, but he's not an agnostic
@outofthegreenmist I know this is late but why do you keep going on about Dr. Dawkins being whatever it is y'all want him to be lately? The Dr. was born an atheist regardless of schools and churches he may have been forced to go to. He ridicules all believers including a PhD Geologist he knows whom even though he knows the age of the Earth etc. through study he says he is still a young earth advocate because that's what scripture tells him. Dawkins says "So, he is still delusional then"
I agree... the entire point of atheism is that we've heard the religious dogma and decided it's bogus. The term "atheist" defines us as having a position on the disbelief of religious claims and provides a distinction from "heathens" (those not "yet" converted from a "tribal" religion) or "heretics" (believers who have dissented from the dogma of their religion). It stops religious people from thinking "they haven't been converted... yet."
Sam Harris' position on the terminology is understandable, so you're an fucking idiot.

ItsEasyIfYouThink 10 months ago
@ItsEasyIfYouThink That's not what the point was at all you obviously did not listen closely. I may have went a bit too far with my point but he was still talking about the way people use the word atheist without thinking about whether we KNOW god doesn't exist. And I called bullshit, we don't even think about god so how can we have a debate about how to say god or atheist. They're just labels after and they were not given to us by us...
JstNEarthling 10 months ago
@ItsEasyIfYouThink It's not a misconception at all, that is exactly how I see it. They say they are not sure so they believe just in case..And the atheists I know don't mind calling themselves atheist at all and a regular guy such as myself doesn't dwell on the label every time we hear it or use it. Those who look at it in a bad way have always looked at "non believers" in a bad way so there's nothing new. We don't want to accept it any more we are proud radical atheists and we will fight now.
JstNEarthling 10 months ago
@ItsEasyIfYouThink I agree. I'm not a fence-sitter. I'm not hedging bets in case heaven really exists. I'm simply acknowledging the limits of human knowledge.
outofthegreenmist 10 months ago
@outofthegreenmist Why is that acknowledging the limits of human knowledge? I know there is no super hero so how does that compute??
JstNEarthling 10 months ago
@JstNEarthling Well, you know, when our species finally becomes extinct - as it will, as even the Christian writer CS Lewis acknowledged, as an educated man interested in science - we'll still just be scraping the surface of all there is to know. We're just little organisms on a speck of cosmic dust and the more we know, the more we realise there is to know. If it makes you happy, I'll call myself an atheist, but I still maintain that there is a possibility that an intelligent entity beyond...
outofthegreenmist 10 months ago
@outofthegreenmist But you said "christian" CS Lewis....therefore his opinions are obfuscated by delusion.
JstNEarthling 9 months ago
@JstNEarthling You can't just right someone off because they're a Christian. The man was highly educated, well-read, a talented writer and friends with many Oxbridge scientists. The point I'm making is that he knew, from a scientific point of view, that the human species was as likely to become extinct as was any other species and that there was likely to be life - even intelligent life - on other planets. Hardly the views of a fundamentalist who looks to the Bible for prophecy.
outofthegreenmist 9 months ago
@outofthegreenmist Sure I can, I just did. Not only that but even Dr. Dawkins when confronted with a highly regarded friend told him whether he knows science says the Earth is billions of yeARS OLD, HE STILL BELIEVES IN YOUNG EARTH BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT SCRIPTURE says (oops cap lock).. Dr. Dawkins says then he too is delusional and he has "written him off" as a friend because like me if someone is that delusional then one must be careful for there is no telling what they might do for one.
JstNEarthling 9 months ago
@JstNEarthling I meant 'write off'. You do know, of course, that if Carl Sagan (I nearly wrote Carl Perkins! LOL!) were still alive, he'd say anyone who believes in the Roswell Incident is deluded?
outofthegreenmist 9 months ago
@outofthegreenmist So, how does that have any bearing on my position. I know all about the Roswell incident and unlike the hiders in government and the so called skeptics don't remember that it was the Army that reported finding a disc shaped craft, not conspiracy theorists as they are called. 3 days later they said no we were wrong it was w weather balloon. So I could care less what Sagan would say about that. As a matter of fact I'm one of those who knows about ETs when I was in SOG-4.
JstNEarthling 9 months ago
@JstNEarthling Well, I think Sagan - of Blue Dot video fame - knew a thing or two about the likelihood of aliens traversing interstellar space to visit this rather insignificant neck of the woods. I enjoyed reading Von Daniken books when I was younger because young people like to imagine that the world is a more interesting place than the rather dull reality inhabited by their parents. I'm with people like Philip Klass on UFO's and have been since the pre-millennium UFO hysteria of the 90's.
outofthegreenmist 9 months ago
@outofthegreenmist So, you're an agnostic but you can't get your head around the idea that there is more than just we in this universe and likely there are 1000s more intelligent species just by random chance. Besides that I've been privy to the things our government doesn't want people to see I told you when I was in SOG..(special ops) regardless of the OSA I'm too old to be afraid of those pukes. So I know what I've seen and you only know what you think.
JstNEarthling 9 months ago
@JstNEarthling I think we may have discussed this before. I have never denied the possibility of the existence of life on other planets (interestingly, neither did - once again - the Christian writer CS Lewis). In fact, I'd be surprised if there wasn't life on other planets. I seriously doubt that life from other planets has ever consciously visited this planet, or ever will, unless we mean microorganisms trapped in ice in comets. UFOs are the modern angels, fairies, etc. - it's all in the mind.
outofthegreenmist 9 months ago
@outofthegreenmist So, you just don't even believe what I told you just 20 hours ago? You don't believe Buzz Aldrin or any of the 20 or so other astronauts that have come forward and told what they've experienced etc.
Do you not see the craft in frescoes painted 100s of years ago. For crying out loud this planet has been visited so many times over the centuries and it is more than evident. Especially nutty is those who laugh at the idea of ET yet believe in super heroes and magic or don't NOT.
JstNEarthling 9 months ago
@outofthegreenmist That's a really shitty thing to say
JstNEarthling 9 months ago
@JstNEarthling What? How is it? Get real, man, it's what any skeptic worth his salt would say. Every era has its ghosts, fairies, angels or little green men in UFO's. I've said it before and you never reacted like that.
outofthegreenmist 9 months ago
@outofthegreenmist "any skeptic worth his salt" would not be a fence sitter they are decision makers...deciders...had to, couldn't help it, you're sounding silly..... you said "little green men" not I. Do you remember who reported a downed flying disc in Rosewell??? The fucking Army !!! Not "conspiracy theorists". You are obviously a fence sitter and therefore not a "skeptic worth his salt"...but you will try to intellectualize it again I'm sure.... I'm tired of your ignorant bullshit.
JstNEarthling 9 months ago
@outofthegreenmist you get "REAL" with your "christian CS Lewis constantly in my fucking face. Fuck you just because you call yourself something you still believe in this separate super intelligence called god and that's all I need from a fence sitter to prove my point......so fuck your green mist.
JstNEarthling 9 months ago
@JstNEarthling (part 2)... our imagining is behind everything. Who the hell am I to say it isn't so? How could I possibly know that? However, if that being wants to have a personal relationship with me, then it is up to he/she/it to make contact and not up to me to pray on my knees just in case. Its existence is a possibility, but not something that consumes my waking hours. I don't live in fear of it. If it exists, it is surely more intelligent than to judge or punish dust mites like us.
outofthegreenmist 10 months ago
@ItsEasyIfYouThink Theists have always associated atheism with evil, devil worship and we are known to be the lowest on the totem pole in social responsibility according to the christians, so that's nothing new. Now listen at 60 YO I think I have a pretty good idea of how we are perceived and it has always been in the negative and the atheists I know could care less whether theists think we're serious or not because they already have the wrong idea about us anyway. continue...
JstNEarthling 10 months ago
@ItsEasyIfYouThink The "fence sitter" position I talk about is not a MISS conception at all, rather it is common knowledge that agnostics are just fence sitters. They make excuses by trying to give it an intellectual bent and the position is really black and white to guys like me...girls too...hahaha....If you really have to feel you're being intelligent and appeasing of religions as an agnostic, I say bullshit. Either there is or is not a magic super hero. Born atheist, it's obvious to see.
JstNEarthling 10 months ago
This guy sure is puerile. Harris is the most mellow guy around, and all he said is it's somewhat pointless to label yourself as something you don't agree with. I don't call myself an Ahoroscopist.
Plus it has much less of an 'us vs. them' mentality and we can call people out on their stupid ideas without being represented in the media as some sort of fringe subculture.

BrainInSkull 11 months ago
@outofthegreenmist Innocent till proven guilty is the saying but I see your point. Which god do we prove doesn't exist first. There are so many. When deciding what's worth proving doesn't exist there has to be reasonable evidence that it might. Otherwise we have to prove anything that I can imagine doesn't exist. I don't know 100% for sure that the world is roundish so do I build a space ship and see for myself or accept the reasonable evidence? You see the dilemma:)
BrainInSkull 11 months ago
I see two more people have voted the video down, making it 4/4. I just used my vote to make it 5/4 in your favour. I don't always agree with what you say (though I agreed with you re. Dawkins and in seeing off the infamous turdbogmaster), but I like your style and support free speech.
outofthegreenmist 11 months ago
@outofthegreenmist I see where you're coming from but again if someone says they believe that Elvis is their toaster or if I believe that you are the devil it would be just as valid as a belief in god. Think of why you are using letters and words and not psychic telepathy to communicate here. I can't prove that you don't have telepathic powers but isn't it reasonable to say that you don't?

@outofthegreenmist I would put forward that if the nature of something is beyond our comprehension then it is of no significance. @outofthegreenmist LOL! Before you jump down my throat again, I meant: ATHEISM - like religion - is NOT about evidence and facts (many scientists are religious) but about faith.
outofthegreenmist 11 months ago
@outofthegreenmist Why can't you admit you're a delusional deity worshiper. You have not said one word to the contrary. Everyone of your arguments are for more and more goofy blatherskiyte you call evidence and try to convince us you're agnostic in the hopes that we are as ignorant(stupid) as christians etc....sorry you're a frickin christian and embarrassed by it. Being a profiler, you make it easy....
JstNEarthling 9 months ago
@outofthegreenmist Why are we not capable for "that kind" of comprehension when in we are discussing that very subject right now.? If you want to keep your mind open to the idea of the universe starting by a magic man then so be it but I in turn will ridicule that position as to me it is a delusion and in the end absolutely unnecessary to the human condition. As a matter of fact religions of every kind have been nothing but the boon on mankind and really good for nothing .God(s)r not necessary.
JstNEarthling 11 months ago
@outofthegreenmist

The inevitable from lack of knowledge of number and properties is "there is NO G-D"
kleenex3000 11 months ago
1:08 Yep, nobody is BORN a theist. Nor are they BORN German, Irish, Italian, or speaking French or English, or preferring pizza to fish and chips. So what? Religion is a function of human language, as old as language itself. Why? Because the human brain likes to tell stories. How are we going to get rid of something as old as mankind itself? It'll never happen. All you can do is criticize the wrongs of religion, but you'll never dispense with it. Like disease, a new one will pop up somewhere!
outofthegreenmist 11 months ago
We don't have a word for not believing in faeries or dragons, is his point. We don't get logic from atheism.....we get atheism from logic.
heeh2 11 months ago
0:50 IMO, an agnostic is NOT a fence-sitter, but a person who admits they can't possibly KNOW there is NO god, because that kind of knowledge is beyond the human mind. Dawkins admits as much and only lately has classed himself as an atheist, and not as an agnostic, which he referred to himself as in the preface of my edition of Selfish Gene. Not believing in man-made religions and not believing in the possibility of a creative intelligence behind the universe are two DIFFERENT things entirely.
outofthegreenmist 11 months ago
@outofthegreenmist
Absolutely everything is a possibility. We count that fact when we say 'god doesn't exist'. There is no real difference between Atheism and Agnosticism besides probably disinterest with the subject.
heeh2 11 months ago
@heeh2 How does saying, 'god doesn't exist', demonstrate an acceptance that everything is possible? Saying, 'I don't believe in YOUR God, but accept that A god MIGHT exist,' is more open-minded. That is my kind of agnosticism. As I understand it, it is also Dawkins' position.
outofthegreenmist 11 months ago
@outofthegreenmist
Because if you want to talk about what it means to know something, an element of uncertainty is required. Socrates told us that you have to try as hard as you can to understand the depths of your own ignorance to have any acquaintance with knowledge....I think that's what he meant.
heeh2 11 months ago
@heeh2 I agree. I would just like to see that uncertainty given a little more acknowledgment. Calling agnostics fence-sitters doesn't do that. At times, some atheists appear as dogmatic as their religious opponents. Is atheism a religion? Does it require faith? If it isn't knowledge (because such knowledge is impossible for the human mind), then is it not, therefore, a belief? Like fairies and UFO's?
outofthegreenmist 11 months ago
@outofthegreenmist
I don't think I understand your UFO question.
heeh2 11 months ago
What is it you DON'T understand?
outofthegreenmist 11 months ago
@outofthegreenmist
Well, at first I wasn't talking about you, but now that I see that your seriously asking if atheism is a religion, I'd be a liar if I didn't end the conversation.
heeh2 11 months ago
@outofthegreenmist But you're a piece of shit trolling agnostic who is a christian in disguise as is evidence by your constant reminder of the "christian"CS Lewis....so fucking what. Hell, the head of the genome project was a creationist and finally fired because he wouldn't keep his mouth shut so why don't you shut up before I fire you....
JstNEarthling 9 months ago
@heeh2 A lot of people try to equate knowledge of the universe and it's rational possibilities with mythological magic. When in reality IMO it was the superstitious humanity who saw extraterrestrials of different kinds and automatically thought they were gods.....except the Sumerian that is, a very practical lot who called these visitors by what they said themselves, "Men from the stars" (The Ananaki)
JstNEarthling 11 months ago

JstNEarthling 10 months ago
@outofthegreenmist I know this is late but why do you keep going on about Dr. Dawkins being whatever it is y'all want him to be lately? The Dr. was born an atheist regardless of schools and churches he may have been forced to go to. He ridicules all believers including a PhD Geologist he knows whom even though he knows the age of the Earth etc. through study he says he is still a young earth advocate because that's what scripture tells him. Dawkins says "So, he is still delusional then"
JstNEarthling 10 months ago
@outofthegreenmist In Your Opinion..... and you obviously haven't a clue as to Dr. Dawkins personality or socialistic ideals.
JstNEarthling 10 months ago
@outofthegreenmist Nope because the religions created the god....don't you see that?
JstNEarthling 10 months ago
I agree... the entire point of atheism is that we've heard the religious dogma and decided it's bogus. The term "atheist" defines us as having a position on the disbelief of religious claims and provides a distinction from "heathens" (those not "yet" converted from a "tribal" religion) or "heretics" (believers who have dissented from the dogma of their religion). It stops religious people from thinking "they haven't been converted... yet."
