This was one of the best matches I've ever seen. A team of minnows completely 'aving it, thick snow that caused the match to be paused for the brushes to come in and Vialli ice-skating his way around defenders. Sheer lunacy, loved it. Even if we did lose on the night.

As a Chelsea supporter I remember this match well. This was one of the most thrilling games of football I've ever watched. Vialli was a true hero in this game and scored the two goals for Chelsea. Watching the score go to 2-0 to Tromso and then seeing the snow fall felt like the beginning of an embarrassing nightmare. Well done Vialli and well done to Tromso as well.

Haha I remember watching this live on tv, at some points it was snowing so hard you couldn't see a thing. Chelsea were just an also-ran type of team back then. So beating them wasn't much of an acheivement to be brutally honest.

You don't have a very good memory. Chelsea went on from this match to win the ECWC tournament that year. We also won the Euro Super Cup in 1998.

Also the FA cup in 1997 and league cup in 1998. Not bad for also-rans :)

The 2-0 defeat was Chelsea's biggest home defeat ever but then we have only lost 3 at home ever. Chelsea avenged that by winning away to Besiktas (played in Germany)...and qualified from the group as winners. Just been to Istanbul and thought it was a brilliant city...although Besiktas' stadium looked like a bit of a shithole.

As for Chelsea not being champions again....I think we have more chance than your boys do in the Turkish league. You'll be third at best for some time in my opinion.
