@Module8: it's not that hard. The base pcb is quite easy. The hardest part is the control surface which you can ignorer. It Can be controlled completely via midi. I would suggest you to make a smaller version called sammich sid! Iit is a smaller 2 sid chip version of the mb 6582. The mb 6582 is the absolutely best thing i ever send my time on. I use it all the time now and it sounds amazing with 2 8580 sid's in it.
Sure. Go to the midibox forums they have all the info you need. I used Front Panel Express (the German version) for the front panel and I ordered the encoders etc. for the control surface at midibox-shop [dot] com. But this is early in my build and it‘s controlled via midi. There is a midibox SID controller software available for free which I tested it out on. Good luck! It is definitely worth building. The MB 6582 is amazing!
Do you know where to get the Rotary encoders? I built this kit a while back, and I never finished because I can't find a source for the rotary encoders and the front panel. could you help me please?
@edlikestoboogie ooops, forgot to add,you can make the front panel yourself, pick a sheet of perspex up from ebay (around £5) and use vero/perf board to give you the centres for holes (good tip use a tapered hand reamer to avoid cracking the perspex with a large drill) the cutout for the lcd can be done very carefully with a decent file.

Wow, 8 SIDs, thats sick. I've got two C64s in my closest, only wish i had the skills and the time to build something like this myself.
