@Dothd00d I would say that RS1 and SPQR are about even, spqr edges it a little because of the difficulty and battle ai, But RS2 imo is miles ahead, RS2 is on par with EB for me i play them both, and thats incredibly difficult to achieve as EB is the epitome of RTW modding.

Honestly though, if you havnt already try every mod, youll find one you will like - if you havnt tried them yet, get EB and RS2.

Europa Barbarorum, Roma Surrectum, Stainless Steel, Rusichi Total War, RTR, all this mods keep Rome Total War and Medieval 2 Total War alive, years after their release! C'mon Creative Assembly, release a patch or an improved engine for this games, so modders could do more wonderful mods with them!!!!

It's a shame that Creative Assembly has so great game ideas but their engines are always having big problems, and the support for modders is zero! They could have made a patch for Rome Total War and Medieval 2 Total War, so this games can benefit from multicore support, because these games are played today very much, and there are so many wonderful mods out there that make this games outstanding!

The engine used for Empire and Napoleon has his own flaws, and it's not meant for close combat with many troups!

Its pretty much the same as SPQR, but with actual different legionary units, but obviously SPQR and RS gameplay is mightily different, you should just check them both out.

Though if your wanting to check out RS, wait for RS2, its release is a few weeks away if that, im currently beta testing it and let me just tell you it will blow your freaking mind. Graphically its on par with MTW 2, and gameplay is just amazing.

I put a lot of hours into SPQR mod and RTR a couple years ago and I'd really like to start playing RTW again with a good mod. What makes Roma Surrectum better if you don't mind me asking? From what I have seen, it looks pretty similar to RTR.

Though i see you like alot of military history, if thats the case i would definitly recommend you playing EB (Europe Barbororum), its RTW but REAL STRICT on history, real unit languages, voice mods, historical accuracy in the unit detail, armour, weapons, the real soldiers they used, the real detail in buildings, historical traits, basically everything the original should of been. A great mod for historical geeks like us :)

Hey can you fill me in on the "archers" in this game, i want to see if they actually made the bows look historially accurate like they did in EUopra Barbarorum. Did they remove arrow trails (white lines following arrows) in RS2 like they did in Europa Barbarorum? i am planning on dl'ing this mod tomorrow but i always play as archer civs, armenians scythians etc, can you let me know? thanks!! :)

Hi, well my only experience with archers in RS was the auxilary eastern archers and roman archers, so its not extensive, but from what i can remember there wasnt any arrow trails though im not 100% sure as it has been a while.

And RS2 has yet to be released, its still under development :D

Umm 1.6 has just been released and thats standalone without needing the previous 1.5, 1.6 includes the force diplomacy aswell as new graphical changed and balancing, so you can just download that from the forum without worrying, youll need a new fresh install of rome though patched to 1.5, if you install over say an eb install it will corrupt the eb and neither will work.

Well it depends really, if you have unmodded rome folder with 1.5 patched then no you dont, but if you have certain types of mods installed, like eb or spqr which break install if you want to install another mod then you do, its easy though just rename your modded folder to the name of mod you use, go to uninstall it but click on repair instead of uninstall, it will now create a fresh install named Rome Total War and youll have your old mod folder too.

Sure, you go to your preferences folder and set the minimal_ui to TRUE, i prefer this ui to the old one as its not as cluttered and its more streamlined.

course' i do i just played the Iberian Campaign and i have to say Surrectum is my favorite of them all and i can have 9000 men.

What i hate is the midle-long turns i have to wait other than that its Great!

I actually found RS turn times to be extremeley fast, you should try EB, it takes anything upto a minute, sometimes longer, but both games are worth it no matter how long it takes, good luck in your iberian campaign.

post imperial legions should consist of

1 imperial legion (eagle 1) 9 imperial cohorts

2 archer 2 javelin 2 cav 1 general remaining space for auxilla

Yup i know, but 1.this was a custom battle and not serious, and 2 this was not an imperial legion, but anyways, i dont like javelins much, in rs i have 4 archers, 4 cav, 1 eagle, 9 cohorts, 1 leading general, and 1 secondary general.

i didnt like the map much in this Battle, it looked Dull i apologize for that, i should of made it desert, or Grasslands or something, With that many men on field it gets crowded, and the grasslands map is pretty small.
