Point is this sector doesn't need stimulus. If we want an energy bill, pass an energy bill. Stimulating a sector that does not need it will not help the economy right now, it will cause inflation.

There's no real recovery until the deficits are fixed or the wealth is more equally distributed, or better yet both. Even Keynes said that there needs to be a surplus before the government invervention will work, which is the difference between the U.S. and China.

They will try, they will raise the Fed Funds rate to increase interest rates to stave off inflation. This will just kill job creation again and shoot mortgage rates through the moon. It will default anyone holding an ARM, and there are millions of them.

This occurs at the same time as the Bush tax cuts expire, which will come straight out of private investment. The private sector will melt down in a perfect storm of debt, inflation, high taxes, foreclosures and bank collapses.

The only good news I can see here is that until the Government does something differently, waiting until around 2012 to buy a house may be wisest.

Not at all. You have to have met your education requirements but you do NOT have to have a degree in education. Not at all -- as a matter of fact most (at least here) teach their major or minor. (Spanish, art, math). After becoming a teacher they are required to begin post-grad studies and Education is often chosen (for ease of completion), but (at least in IL, based on recent family experience in the last three years) the right major subject will make you desirable in most school districts.

Most are baccalaureate programs. The fastest available are 3 months and then 2 years as a part-time student-teacher while you complete coursework.

Point is, even with a masters degree, you can't just apply.

This issue is that it is really hard for a laid-off educated person to get a job in education. You can get licensed with a certification, but it takes 2 years and a lot of tuition money. It is not a good way to stimulate because workers cannot transition into it easily.

Even if you are certified, there is a huge hiring bias put in place by the unions at the local level. Many principals just do not hire without a degree in education.

Ok, then a certification in education. That is still at least a minor in education. Unions do pressure a lot of districts to only hire teachers with a degree in education. It all varies by district. Let me put it this way, if I wanted to go and teach in my local district, I would be looking at a 1-2 year delay at least and probably 10-15,000 in coursework or "certification." I have inquired because I thought it would be great to teach while pursing and advanced degree.

That is what I said. However it is not the union (which I really think is worthless). Here in IL there were offers from all over the state to teach, none required a degree in education. The certificate in education is not a degree, it is a requirement of the NCLB that requires the state to certify all teachers. New teachers have to have the courses. Seriously, we just went through this including job offers from all parts of the state.

You are just incorrect -- at least in IL about education degrees being required -- simply wrong. They don't care as long as you pay dues. A masters in education is often chosen because it is not limiting for future opportunities, but although post-grad studies are required for tenure that is not limited to a degree in education.
