1970 Eugene, Oregon, Greteful Dead, New Riders of the Purple Sage and jefferson Airplane. My very first concert and it was a doozy. Three days at the ol "Rennasance Festival" grounds west of town, now called the "Oregon Country Fair".
Back in the days in Brooklyn 1960s we referd to herb by colors, Red, Gold(Blond), Black. also had varities like Cheese, Wacky,.........most pot in Brooklyn then came by ship from South America(Columbian lines) Red was very trippy, Black some times taste like flowers, pepper, cheese or soil....Gold/Blond was similer to Red.
I call my generation "hippie fallout" we aren't baby boomers or generation x it was Herb Tarlic and led zep or sat.nite fever italian horns mMcDonalds coke spoons it was the start of sex, drugs and rock & roll you either was a hippie from olema or a oakie from muskogee vietnam to patty hearst the thirst for freedom cost by being blinded by the light or dear abby or dear pruedence to J Edgar Hoover wearing Victoria's secret under his 3 piece suite.Nobody can give Geronimo Pratt those years back
what great times those were when my friends and i would fairly often buy "lids" of panama red. of course at that time(mid to late seventies just about any bud with an abundance of red pistils was said to be panama red.
@fourtwoOh I remember in the 70's.. (kinda) a "lid" was an oz of regular smoke and cost 10.00 Then ya get some RED or what we used to get called "BA" Yep,bad ass. It cost ya 35.00 or maybe even 50.00! WOW, what happened to that. LOL
@sallymander57 Twi Stick was all bud wrapped around a giant wooden toothpick. About 6 inches long. It kind of disappeared after the US pulled out on Vietnam.Very rare and very potent. I learned to play chess with a friend who would bring it around...........Now that I recall I don't think I ever won one game from him LOL
@Alexandertg1955 I believe it was Tai stick.. LOL I remember it too. It was some potent buds for sure. Then I got hash from Germany from a GI... And that worked too. Yes it was early-mid 70;s.
Yep, good 'ol 4-finger dime bags, Hawaiian ("sticky-buds"), and red-haired Sensamian. Mmmmm.... Thai Stick was a rare treat. So. Cal. was awash in weed in the late 70's. Good memories... I think. :-)
When U.S.A. invaded Panama and ousted Noriega, many troops brought back Panama Red with them. It was my first experience with it. One Joint lasted a whole day, never saw anything like it before and since. It was the only benefit from decades of bad foreign policy.
Seen these guys just out side of Pittsburgh pa. in the early 70's. One of my favorite bands of all times. It was in a bar on RT#8 Hampton township I think the name of the place was the V.I.P LOUNGE but those days are hard to remember! What great music they made.I'm just proud to say I seen the original band in it's prime. And heard almost all their great songs.
back in 73, a friend of mine were drivin the back roads in ft Gibson, Ok, and he said the nite before he got hassled by local sheriff and had to throw a bag out....lo and behold we look over and there is a bag of panama red hanging on a barbwire fence by the road......sweet and spicy it was! and red! back then cops used to make you empty out your bag into the wind and let you go..most of the time!
When I started out smoking we had Panama Red, Columbian Gold, and Mexican Green or "dirt weed". Many years later after all that was gone, I went through some old albums and found this bright gold weed stuck in the middle of the Sgt. Peppers album. I swear, I almost shed a tear of joy. Party on!
@jesseh1 i know what you mean red black gold ..green was junk lowest grade now all is green cannot even find hash any more use to love that sweet taste of hash and i listened to NRPS and the DEAD ..as i smoke never use a bong rolled or use a pipe How missed those days
Reminds me of 1974, freshman year at Va tech, Mark "Headly" Keller introduced me to The New Riders of the Purple Sage and weed. I was never the same again.
Panama red was on the decline out this way when I was into this. So was commercial Colombian, and Acapulco Gold, but it was still around on the coast & some Comm Colombian back east. I found a small amt someone lost, and cherished every toke. Its a flavour that is rather rare, kinda like real hashish. I have neuropathy bad now, and Mary Jane helps a lot, as does she with severe migraines for a lady friend, to bad our govt don't see the light. Alcohol and its violence are OK but MJ is not. WTF!?!
@Satchmoeddie ~ I smoked a bale or two during the Summer of '73. For some reason that was about the only pot I was getting that Summer. It was great stuff. I wish I could get some more at '73 prices.
@Satchmoeddie I agree. Alcohol causes nice people to be dicks and then they drive or try and then kill someone. Government would be wise to legalize this.. They would make money rather than costing them to incarcerate a pot head. And the fact that it REALLY does help with pain. Im in constant pain myself but I live In Ok and it AINT OK.
@Satchmoeddie we have a government? do the anything? other then lying, stealing & attacking 3ed world nations?? i didn't think so cause i haven't seen a govt since 1963 nov when they assassinated JFK and lied about it then started any war they wanted
@amagedon58 JFK was the last real president. After his murder by his own friends, including Cardnal Spellman, all we have had in the white house are puppets.
@Satchmoeddie What are you kidding? The government does recognize the medicinal value of good pot. They are just assholes. They say no no no and when at home they toke toke toke. I use to sel to a channel 13 news anchor in Houston Texas way back in the '70's. Also to a traffic court judge and his wife, yep Houston. So please you should know by now that all politicians are hipperkrits. hahahahahahah

Back in the days of Panama Red I don't recall there being much in the way of buds in any of the "brands".
It was more like everything including male plants, seeds and stems.
Remember a four finger "lid" for ten bucks?
