I respect your training but I was thinking some kids or people with bad intent to harm innocent people might be watching this video and you said strike to the corotid artery or temple. maybe saying strike to "points" or "sensitive areas" to stop attacker or something like that to keep the wrong people from learning this technique. but I do like your postings and vids a lot please accept this with respcct not a bad comment sifu
very cool. thank you. One thing. tanglang is a relatively new style. It is only a few hundred years old. Of course that doesn't mean the techniques you are using aren't a thousand years old as mantis is derived from old styles. history aside, I appreciate the information. please keep at it.
Very nice. very informative in both videos. I like how you stress using techniques from the forms for a given situation, and not follow the form in a fight. Keep up the good work!
@mragsdiddy26 yup u def could, and thats something i do a lot. its just not traditional mantis, which is what i was looking for. but yes! that works well =]
i use to teach at several schools in reno nevada, but with the economy in the dumpster i only teach privately now. but yes i still teach. i SHOULD b putting some more videos up really shortly =]
Are you still putting videos up? I ask because I am really interested in Mantis Kung fu, I've gotten my black belt in TKD and I can't find anywhere to learn Kung fu in WA, can you pleeeeaaassseee make some more vids on this style of kung fu? :)
its possible but not probable. their are so many intricate pieces of martial arts that you just can't see on a video. unless someone it teaching it or you already know it, its not gunna happen
the main dif between kung fu and Taekwondo is they are from dif countries. kf is from china, TKD is from Japan. BIG dif in thought process and culture which makes the changes in the arts. TKD is really about high fast kicks, and not as much concentration on hand techniques. KF is about using the body as a whole (of course depending on the form their are alterations in that.) everyone see's the techniques in forms dif, thats the beauty of them. 10 ppl can see the same piece of the form..continued
its 7 star plum blossom. shi yan jun's interpretation. he passed it down to me about 3 years ago. and thank you for the kind words. no i dont have a website unfortunately. y?
haha for sure man! usually with mantis application ppl take it all wrong. it needs to be quick and most importantly DIRECT! or it wont work. cuz the flashy stuff and do what works
glad you have med shaolinkid, he is an online friend of mine who also commented on the 2 fingers video. Big fan of the mantis man, and i haven't talked to you in a while. Keep keeping it real
i can do some on neck, arms, and legs, but im not gunna go into detail on spinal points. too dangerous. im plannin on doin some filmin this week, ill see what i can get up for ya!
right on! ya imma get a egg this year for my garden. im excited =] but ya if u watch a mantis, they fight a LOT like the style. i love it! mantis is my fav
haha done and done. im actually working with a BJJ guy right now. still waiting to get my firewire port fixed on my compy though... as soon as i get that cord, i have the footy to pmp up like 20 more app vids... unfortunately im not even making rent, so i cant afford it right now...
hey man u should post up some videos on basic lohan forms for those who cant attend their classes regularly or would like to practice at home, can you believe there are no videos out there on this, at all, such as Fei Hu Chu Tung (Flying Tiger Comes Out of the Cave) or Se Meng Tao Lian (reversibly facing four enemies), man even if there were a quick demo of it, sloppy even it would help me remember my training, oh well, my search continues... keep up the good work man
ya i plan on doing applications for all of Xiao Louhan Quan, unfortunately my fire wire port got messed up by my dog, so i cant pull any footy from my cam to my laptop. until i get it fixed im kinda on hold. i guess there is some sort of firewire hub i could get, but i cant find it. haha if u could help me out, i would b more than happy to help you out =]
ya a lot of arts have that throw. bruce lee said it best when he said until huans grow 8 arms and 6 legs, we will all fight the same. everyone moves the same way, so in every art u will find similarities
Yes, but only half of it. The other half were Okinawan martial arts that had developed on their won. But that throw that I mentioned probably came from CMA.
great show of actual apps for the mantis. Good point about working techniques over and over. put these moves into your muscle memory and make them become natural reactions. Great stuff HD, keep up the good work.
great job man that was really helpful as soon as those DVD's come out im defiantly getting 1 to bring into my karate class and i guarantee the rest of the class will love it and youll have a lot more sales
haha sounds good man! ya my firewire cable got wrecked so im out for a lil till i can get a new one. im wicked poor right now so it could b a lil while =[ unless someone wants to throw me $10 so i can grab a new one! haha any takers? or just send me one they dont use
You represented the versatility of the form well. Many people don't understand that each pattern within each form of virtually all styles all have a myriad of applications depending on the scenario. It also makes learning and doing the forms easier when you know the purpose of each pattern.
Thank you for posting this please make more. One of the best short instructional vids I have seen. Thanks XshaolinkidX !
hey man i really appreciate it! i really wanted to show that the forms are sooo much more multifaceted than ppl think they are. i think this was too much at one time though. im going to shrink the piece down next time, BUT in the future i am planning on taking WHOLE forms, breaking down each movement, teaching the forms, then applications for EVERY piece on DVD's if ne1 is interested. they will b SUPER cheap IF NOT free. just let me know!
ya i know it is. i decided that the next one i do is gunna b a smaller application. lol im use to showing a tech like this n spending 2-3 hours ATLEAST explaining it. the transition to doing it in 10 mins is a lil weird. lol. just ask me which parts u want me to break down more and i will =]

second problem is u think your gunna watch a youtube video and think u got it mastered. these techniques take practice.
XshaolinkidX 2 years ago
your thinking too hard about things... martial arts and fighting in general is simplistic..gotta remember that

Forms are great, but if you never practice them (or the techniques in them) you'll never be able to use kung-fu. Nice video.

I loved this video *subscribes* although I wouldn't mind you making a mantis style tutorial focusing on the pressure points and exploiting them
sora302 3 years ago
well that is def possible. which pressure points (generalized location) are you looking for?
XshaolinkidX 3 years ago
neck, spine, arms, legs.

It seems that karate has that bow stance throw (at about 6:40). However, karate had influence from some kind of CMA.
