  • My Gnex has 6-10 scratches now and its never been dropped or put in a pocket with anything else. I never put it face down and it sits in a car cradle most of the time. The glass what ever it is, is totally unacceptable and I'm selling mine and going back to my unscratched SGS Vibrant. I treated my Vibrant very poorly and it never once got a scratch I have babied the Gnex and its scratched to hell! Somethings up with you video man cuz I could prob scratch the Gnex with my eyelash's if I tried...

  • WTF that's not gorila glass

  • WOW

  • this video is great and all but i have a scratch on my gnex from having keys in my pocket

i can provide screenshots or better yet a video if people don't believe me

so bottom line is don't believe this outlandish video

  • @zores2 I would love to see a screenshot show a scratch on the screen!

  • @samsungmobilerdom i can't put url's in comments so i'll just pm you the video i put up

  • Loved how he said "nothing" at the end

  • Can the led notification light be edited to change frequency and colour etc, and or does it have to be through third party app

  • @imthebottomline I think the LED notification options are limited. However, "Light Flow - LED Control" will easily allow you to tinker with colour settings et cetera.

  • @samsungmobilerdom thanks, tried the app n its perfect

  • This glass is fortefied to designed to be strong. BUT how does it stand up to daily use, e.g, How I used my Galaxy S 18 months, its dropped several times face first, been in pocket with keys and coins etc yet so far no scratches. A more informative, but less entertaining test, would be for someone using it for a week in normal conditions and see what happens but also make a few intentional drops. By normal I mean how most people will be once they had the phone a a month or more.

  • @imthebottomline I did throw my Nexus down the stairs and it held up just fine (there's a video of it somewhere) - but friends of mine have dropped the Gnex from not very far up to have the screen smash! The user @productfeedback seems to have had a similarly bad experience!

I have a Galaxy S 2 which is absolutely riddled with little scratches and scrapes despite the gorilla glass (I don't look after it well) but when the screen is actually turned on I don't notice a thing so Im not bothered...

  • @imthebottomline ... reading through the comments to this video people are giving mixed reviews - yes you'll get little scratches on the GNex and yes the screen can smash - but I don't think that's any different from other phones on the market. In a few weeks time is MWC (from which I will make as many videos as possible) and I'm hoping to see some cool new scratch-proof devices!

  • @samsungmobilerdom thanks for the feedback. Yeah I suppose its also down to luck.Cant wait to see what comes out in MWC. Looking beyond GS3 I think HTC might pull a rabbit out of the bag. What I would hate is for 2012 to be another year where there is an undisputed best smart-phone.

  • @imthebottomline Yeah the GS3 will be a later release so HTC will likely steal the show with Quad-Core devices like HTC-Edge and whatnot. I can't help but think the GS3 will be better when it's announced later one though! I'm actually going to be at MWC this year to let me know if you want a video of anything - I'll do it!

  • @samsungmobilerdom Hey, thanks for the offer. What ever grabs your attention. Which I am sure will be things that set a new benchmark or bring a whole new level of innovation.

  • @samsungmobilerdom Hi, my Galaxy Nexus came through yesterday. On the whole I like it and its also good knowing I have a phone that won't will probably stay niche unlike galaxy s2. I do have one issue the screen. compared to my original galaxy S, the Galaxy S screen seems to have more vivid colours, whereas the Galaxy Nexus colours seem a bit faded. This is based on download same abstract 3d art screen saver and having both screens on full brightness.

  • @imthebottomline is that just the reality or am I doing something wrong in settings. Because I love the vivid almost cartoon like colours on my Galaxy S and was hoping the Galaxy Nexus would match or surpass it. But besides that, text is sharper on GN

  • This is the main thing stopping me from going for the G Nexus. I have an original galaxy s for 18 months. Lol, never knew anything about Gorilla Glass, but few months ago it occurred to me my GS had gone over a year with not 1 scratch on the screen, despite being accidently dropped face first , put in pockets with keys and coins etc. So researched and found out about GG. Nexus has reinforced glass, how does it apply to daily living. Any feedback for glass over weeks through daily normal use?

  • The last thing I want is to see my Gnex scratched up (I baby the thing) but in my experience, Invisible Shields do nothing to help a screen's sharpness. The one reason i took it off my iPhone 4 was that it made that retina display look worse than it truly is. Zagg has started making InvisibleShield HD ones which evidently don't have this issue so i'll keep my eyes peeled

  • I attached a video response which outlines the truth behind the Galaxy Nexus Screen.

  • i think it has something to do with sharper thing than harder thing.. a piece of paper can cut your skin..

  • by the way I just removed my screen protector (one of those zagg types) and my gel case thinking it was safe at home, so now i have a 2 month old 650+$ phone with a big ugly very noticeable scratch in the face, my point is, screw what they say cant scratch it, Something will and when it does you will feel sad! `use protection! lol

  • keys are usually made from fairly soft (compared to glass) metals such as nickle or brass, which of course wont scratch a screen to easily, now try that with a hardened steel screwdriver or something along those lines and it will take very little effort to leave a mark, I woke up yesterday and found 2 large gouges in my htc amaze with gorilla glass, couldn't Probably dropped it face down on my floor and a couple little pieces of sand tracked in on my shoes did the rest :(

  • dude your either brave or rich. cool the tow way :)

  • Have you tried a sword?

  • the temptation is very VERY high, but i wont do it D:

  • My hTC HD 7 does the same

  • but will it blend??

  • @Dancrunch10 omg the obligatory "will it blend?" comment, I should have seen that coming. JUST ONCE I WANT TO GO TO A YOUTUBE VIDEO AND NOT SEE WILL IT BLEND? AT THE TOP OF THE COMMENTS. YOU FRIGGIN' RETARDS, WILL IT BLEND WAS FUNNY YEARS AGO, IF YOUR JUST FINDING OUT ABOUT WILL IT BLEND THEN YOU SUCK AT THE INTERNET. I HOPE YOU ALL DIE!

  • @Dancrunch10 no

  • Bullshit I've got scratches all over my nexus. The glass on this phone sucks balls....good thing the rest of the phone is awesome

  • @Iaudio214 you must have diamond encrusted finger tips cause if this guy cant scratch his phone with a freakin key then we are all doing something wrong

  • It's not a trick or anything, you take the unopened bottle out of the freezer while it's still liquid, pop open the cap and it goes all slushy, slowly from top to bottom. Obviously you expedite the process if you shake it. I'd assume it has something to do with a change in pressure drooping it that extra temp to freeze. It doesn't have to be anything carbonated either. It happens frequently when I pull a Powerade out of the freezer, if I left it in for too long.

  • People need to understand material properties. This test proves very little - only that glass (Min Mohs Hardness of 4.5) is harder than a key, likely made from brass (Mohs Hardness of 4). You would struggle to find any glass capable of being scratched by such material. The prime culprit of all your scratches will be mineral particles - sand, carbon etc which are lingering in your otherwise empty pockets.

Most metals have a relatively low hardness, and are not the reason for your scratches.

  • @aspudgun This also explains why the 'I take good care of my phone' guys tend to experience more scratches, because they're constantly wiping off these particles, unaware of the damage caused. While the 'I throw my phone in my pocket with keys' guys have less problems, since they couldn't care for abit of dirt on their screens and aren't constantly wiping dust across it.

Sources - GN owner who takes care of phone and has scratches, First Class MEng Degree.

    Hope that clears things up.

  • That test isnt all true. My galaxy nexus i look after it so much i have only had it for under month and it already has 4 fkn scratches, im so disappointed!!! Shame on samsung

  • I have one since about a month ago and there are 2 big scratches on the screen. No idea where from. By comparison I had the galaxy s2 for months with the same usage rate and had no scratches at all. I like ICS but disappointed by the hardware and weak screen.

  • I can also confirm a scratched screen, luckily it is over the front facing camera so nothing of value was lost.

  • Far out. I've had my Nexus since around Christmas time. I have a case and a screen protector which slightly lifts at the bottom due to the curve. I took off the case today to clean it and at the bottom of the phone just next to the bezel, there is a scratch. Literally 1/3 of a millimetre but since I know it's there, it's bugging me >=( I tried seeing whether it was fluff or something and wiped it a lot. I'm very particular about these things and I feel like buying a new one but I'm not =(

  • I'll have to try that party trick with my boss's Nexus, he'll love it

  • Now try doing that with an iPhone! HAHAHA :D

  • have had my g.n. since Dec 16 . And no scratches .. yet .. let's pray its stays like that .. Check out SKINOMI SCREEN PROTECTORS .

  • Had my nexus w/ no protector for less than 24 hours when I first got it, within that time, somehow I managed to get a faint, barely noticeable hairline scratch on it, no idea how with as paranoid I was with it in the first place. Although, I managed to scratch the screens on both my Atrix and Captivate without knowing what I did, both of which claim to have gorilla glass. It's also worth noting if it makes a difference, I have the Verizon Nexus, theoretically, the build materials might differ.

  • @ShackRidge I propose we do a study into mysterious phone-screen scratches. This thing can obviously take a beating - I mean I can attack it with some keys and even hit it with the bottom of a ceramic coffee mug a few times with no scratches... but a walk into town with it in your pocket and you get those annoying little scrapes in 30 minutes. Ridiculous!

  • @samsungmobilerdom I bet sand, dust, this kind of stuff scratch it. It's in the texture of a jeans' pocket.

  • @samsungmobilerdom

Ikr? I always thought it was coins in my poket but I'm always sure to see that my phone is in an empty pocket and yet it still gets these tiny half-millemeter scratches.

  • @ShackRidge Same problem. Bought mine on thursday 12/29 and noticed a series of scratches today. My last phone was a Charge which I had for months without issue. Naturally, I assumed I wouldn't need a screen protector but I guess I was wrong.

  • @ShackRidge I to have a very small and only noticeable with bright colors hairline something that is not part of the surface of the screen but within the screen. I plan on taking mine back and getting a replacement as this may cause serious issues down the road. I see it as a flaw and when I called the warranty department they agreed with me.

  • @ShackRidge To the extent of my knowledge, these scratch resistant screens are highly vulnerable to sand/sugar type substances. The small grains wreak havoc on these screens for some reason. Interesting that you can take any kind of metal to it but sand causes irreversible abrasions :(

  • @sergeantfiasco I'm willing to bet that the material type for all invisible shield products is the same, so, if your not thinking that you can tolerate that somewhat rubbery texture, you should search out another product.

  • I know that the product I swear by has as many haters as there are followers, but I've been using the Zagg Invisible Shield installed and purchased from Best Buy and the stuff has proven very durable. Yes, it shows orange peal in glare or when turned off, but the stuff is amazingly durable. It also has a slightly rubbery feel, but again, for the durable material, I'll deal with it. Highly recommended! It's on my Galaxy Nexus that I'm on right now.

  • @HiPerformanceDiesel I have the Invisible Shield on my Mac but if it's the same feel for touchscreens then I don't really want to use it because it is pretty grippy which isn't what I'm looking for on a phone screen.

  • Just saying, don't you guys normally use screen protectors on your phone... I have one on my Galaxy Nexus but the only problem is that it's too thick and the curved surface makes it lift slightly.

  • Does galaxy nexus have gorilla glass as the previous galaxy S II has?

  • This video has to either be fake or with the use of a screen protector because my SGN already has scratches on it and I just had it in my pocket alone.

  • Please try it with a razor blade.

  • WHAT IN THE HELL ARE YOU DOING !!!!!!! with keys WTF !! try something like a Hammer with a nail will ya!

  • Gorilla glass is crack prof...

    Not scratch prof...

  • Gorilla Glass is a name brand. Just because it doesn't have a name brand type of glass display doesn't mean it is any worse. Results look just as good, if not better considering the display is curved

  • @wesfry92 and i tought gorilla glas was made of gorilla eyes.. you've destroyed my whole worldview... SHAME ON YOU!

  • @wesfry92 thanks, didn't know that it is a brand ;P

  • ...and then a feather cracked it.

  • I think he should try a different approach to unlocking his phone

  • @timrichardson I knew I was doing something wrong!

  • @timrichardson That's not how you use a key to unlock the phone?

  • Thank you for risking this on your phone! Awesome to see the (lack of) results!

  • @silgado106 You are extremely welcome! :)

  • yes! Please try with sand or sand paper! GG wont resist the giant dick of scratches that sand provides ( :

  • @Catalyst8D Galaxy Nexus doesn't have Gorilla Glass.

  • this video made my heart stop

  • Will it blend?

  • Awesome !!!

  • I've managed to scratch mine, not sure how. I have no idea how he got away with it in the video :/

  • @Uvarvu

Yeah, my Nexus also has scratches. Nothing Extreme, but it's really irritating to have a new device scratched after just a few days in my pocket(no keys). The screen is not at all scratch resistant.

Actually I'm quite sad this is my current phone - and not the SGS2. Hope I'll be able to keep the screen in its current condition until S3, sell my one and collect the S3 when it enters the market (March/April?).

  • all phones are scratch resistant ,since like 2008 ,so yawn ,

  • No gorilla classes

  • How might this look like: A guy walks out the store with his totally new phone sits down and starts trying to scratch the screen with a key ;D

  • Can you try the same with a diamond and show the result here? ;-)

  • @WolfgangLiebl Please provide me with a diamond and I will do

  • @samsungmobilerdom So sorry, but actually I don't have any with me and my favourite jewel-seller makes holidays but I don't know where and how long ;-)

  • @samsungmobilerdom

You mean you don't carry loose diamonds in the same pocket as your phone? Well you're one of the lucky few. People like myself and @WolfgangLiebl have the constant danger of ruining our screens.

  • @samsungmobilerdom Can you try with sand?

  • @WolfgangLiebl I wish I had diamonds in my pocket too :D

  • @WolfgangLiebl

who the devil carrys a diamond in his trouser pocket ?!?!

  • Retina Display who?

  • why not jizz cum on it

  • wow cool :)

  • Samsung, wrong choice

  • it is not just samsung... but also HTC, their recent phones do not mention gorilla glass. sad. since both samsung and htc marketed their phones with gorilla glass before, at least they should mention what kinda glass they used on their new phones, and not let us to guess.

  • @donrico73 Gorilla glass is just a brand name for "corning"'s fortified glass. It's a brand name with marketing and it doesn't mean that another company (without the same huge marketing budget) produces an inferior quality product.

  • @samsungmobilerdom Yeah, but if they just said that name, that would be marketing!!

  • COOL MAN

  • FAKE

  • suck test!! it's really nothing.

  • One grain of salt or sand and...well, I don't recommend trying it.

  • sand can scratch it like hell

  • Just got mine. It feels and performs just like gorilla glass. Great job, Google and Samsung.

  • Aye cos thats a common problem with keys on phones

  • @ZiigmundWilliams thumbs up if u gay

  • Thumbs up if you hate Apple :D

  • @ZiigmundWilliams I prefer android handsets, but why in the hell would we hate apple? If you look at the announcement of the Android Open Source project, Sergey Brin is demonstrating the software with a normal phone, barely showing an example with a touchscreen and not worrying about it. Then the iphone was made and next thing you know touch screens are totally ubiquitous.

  • @xLivexxLaughx he obviously does it to show day to day usage when IRS in your pocket with your keys. You keep a needle in your pocket? Lol

  • Nothing.

  • Did not try hard enough

  • key doesnt do shit to my iphone either

use a needle if u wanna show this shit offff

  • aawwhgg, my heart burned when i was this :(

but good to know that the glass is great :D

  • waaaaw very nice

  • damn thats awesome!

  • Woah! Amazing and terrifying at the same time o.o What if your Galaxy Nexus díd get even the tiniest scratch on it? :O I'd die, youknow.

  • You sir, have balls of steel. I for one would never even THINK of doing such a thing to a new phone. Kudos

  • where do all these people and compainese besides google getting the galaxy nexus before its even out ?

  • @101deltadude It is out in some countries :)

  • @samsungmobilerdom is it out with service (etc ATT) or is it just to buy and if so when is it advaliable in america ?

  • @101deltadude I think you can get it SimFree in the US through Expansys (for a very high price) but it should be coming to Verizon soon (rumoured to be a very cheap $300). As yet there aren't any confirmed release dates for the US - I think the phone is being tweaked and having a bit of bloatware put on it first.

  • Très résistant cette écran il me fait penser à mon Desire HD

  • That won't fit in my pockets so I guess I'll have to carry it round up my arse

  • Use a damn nail are something

  • @Salemloay1

Lets try scratching it with our thumb!

  • use a knife

  • @BobtheTERROR that's a load of BS, that's so impractical. Nobody walks around with sand in their pocket. And for the two people who do, maybe they deserve for their phone to get fucked up.

  • @MABeezy009

There's usually sand in my pockets, except the one that i keep my current iphone in. It still gets scratched up though. Cant wait for the nexus next wednesday!

  • @MABeezy009 You don't need a pocket full of sand. 1 or 2 grains will scratch the screen and you don't even notice them in your pocket. Maybe you never get sand in your pockets but for the rest of us that actually go outside and do shit, sand and dirt is mostly what scratches our phones.

  • @BobTheTERROR Bullshit, I live near the beach and I take my phone on the boardwalk and out on the sand all the time and not once has a damn grain of sand scratched my screen. The only thing that's managed to scratch it was when I dropped it on pavement. Besides not everyone lives where they can even come into contact with sand on a daily basis. And suppose you're right, why would you even need to see such a dumb test if you already know the outcome?

  • Keys are a bad test. They aren't as hard as glass and therefore CAN NOT scratch the glass screen of a phone. Throw it in a pocket with some sand and that will be a real test.

  • Love this video. Brave :p

  • Some of you guys are just plain idiots. Who walks around with sand paper in their pockets? Keys are a more realistic test. Don't see what you guys are fussing about.

  • Prove its a real phone...

  • Scratch it with sand.

  • thumbs up if u can´t watch this

  • I am sorry, but I down voted just simply because I grimaced at the keying of the screen. I knew it would be fine and such, but none the less sends a chill down my spine. Thanks for the great effort to show it's durability, but that still does not detract from this being next to a horror show for those that love tech.

  • take that corning gorilla glass!!!

  • What a relief !

  • There are also devices htc Have the same idea This is not a new tradition that

  • samsung Go 2 fuck Apple

  • can't wait to buy this!!!!!!

  • omg, this not your phone right?!

  • I need one that will go through the wash...

  • gahh. If only all phones were like that.

  • Woww . Thanks you review Galaxy .

  • but WILL IT BLEND?

  • Thanks a lot for this video! I was wondering.

  • Yes the iPhone wins !!! Watch how we drop it on the ground and its smashed into a thousand pieces but without one single scratch hahaha!!!

  • your key wast sharp enough !

  • Nothing!

     Lololololololol

  • Are you still buying iphones? i mean really? Android is the best out there hands down!

  • Rub some sand around on it. Should be a better test than a key.

  • iPhone still wins.

  • @McK21279

    apple fanboy wins

  • @TechnologyDudes it does have gorilla glass but it's using a different fortified glass

  • Samsung sucks

  • Magic sleeve...

  • Apple really needs to start using quality products like Samsung.

  • Comment removed

  • @xavy83 First of all, he didn't buy it. He works with Samsung, so that must been one of their own units, you idiot. Second of all, he tested the screen to show us that it's scratch resistant. No need to get butthurt, okay? Lastly, that's not how you spell "300".

  • @XAnonymousdX how do you even know he works for Samsung unless your the guy in the video and most high end phone are scratch resistant this isnt anything new

  • @xavy83 I don't know, but his channel is full of Samsung videos. So it's an opinion now.

  • Now use a razor blade and see if it will cause a scratch.

  • Now try doing that to an iPhone.

  • Any1 else think of pet detective when ever there's a scratch test video?

  • If I was doing this test I would just scratch it untill there was marks....I guess this is why i'm not going the test.

  • Try with something else, like Jigsaws tools :P

  • Just a plastic key ;) (I'm in joke)

  • There is just NO WAY I could do that to such a beautiful phone. EVEN IF my parents bought it for me.
