American documentaries about physicists are often made up as thrillers or gothic ghost stories... (One about Einstein too.) They seem to think it doesn't capture the attention otherwise.
hmmm i for some reason do not think that matter (Information) or information for that matter (lol) can disappear into nothingness inside of a black hole. I would probably take susskinds side right now. If it does somehow disappear then that would be quite astonishing.
Unfortunately infinimately small black holes could not be created in the LHC in their theoritical bounds leading to the idea of their non-existance. It would be the best of proof on the whole theory of black hole's disappearence

@andyrooney12 Susskind's book "The Black Hole Wars" actually discusses the possibility that we are in a black hole. He does an excellent job of explaining that it is a conceivable.
If there are any scientists or professors that read this please give me some feedback. I was thinking that maybe we live in a black hole. Nobody knows what's really inside a black hole. What if there's a whole universe in there? No light and no particles can escape it so maybe the particles sucked into a black hole are condensed into infinitely small pieces. What we think of as large & complex masses such as stars & planets could be just matter sucked into the black hole that is our universe.

We don't see that. Every measurement that has be done tells us that the amount of information has remained the same, and cannot change, or the Laws of Physics break down. That was Susskind"s problem with Hawkins Theory in this very video.
Thank you for an intelligent response. But, I have always thought...no matter how smart a person is by human standards, none of us knows what's out there. We have brilliant telescopes that give us different types of the most amazing images of the visible universe but even they are lacking in many ways. What if there is no matter within the grasp of the black hole that we're living in? What if the area where information is sucked in is way beyond what our telescopes can see?
I know enough to know that I'm one of the last people that should be commenting on this but I can't stop thinking about reality. You ever think that there is REAL magic in the universe? I define magic as a phenomena that cannot be explained by science & there is so much that science doesn't know about the universe. One day, in the distant future, it will no longer be magic because science will explain it but today, I just think that absolutely everything is possible in the universe.

I came up with it myself but to be honest, I have had a few different thoughts that I later found out were also thoughts that scientists have expressed in the past. I am OBSESSED with philosophy & science but I'm not a scientist or a philosopher. I have a lot of thoughts like that...if anyone is interested, I can start doing some videos. Susskind is just jelious of Hawkings superior mind. It seems like he lives only to try to prove others wrong and wanting to take all the credit for himself. Face it, he looks at Hawking and sees him how is is on the outside and can't believe that a man who can't speek or write for himself is greater at what they do and it bothers him that a man like that is far smarted them himself.
In the begining all he did was try to disprove Hawking so he could be "the big cheese".

Actually both were right. Susskind because he was correct that info is not lost but stored at the end of the event horizon, but also Hawking was right because although the info is right there preserved at the edge of the black hole, there is NO idiot who would ever venture to go and gather it, or no way to gather it, thus it is practically irretrievable, thus LOST.
@fedguy64 IT seems to me that Hawking was actually right because information would simply just decay into nothingness, this meaning that it would disappear. Same thing happens to a, b, gamma particles, once they are emitted they will travel certain distance and then decay and finally just disappear. So, both were right, information was retreavable as long as it did not decay to infinitesimal sizes, but once it did it is lost.

As I said time is not absolute, A second is relative...you understand?. I dont know what particles you are refering to, the factor here is gravity. The closer to the earth you are, the more time dilation there is because of the gravitational pull of the earth. So time is 'slower' at the earth then it is in space. Not only that but every single person's clock on there wrist is also relative, but the difference is so small its neglagible.
after a quick look, I imagine what you read was the experiment involving the decay of muons at the top of a mountain versus the decay at the bottom. It was found to decay slower at higher altitudes because of time dilation.

If there are any scientists or professors that read this please give me some feedback. I was thinking that maybe we live in a black hole. Nobody knows what's really inside a black hole. What if there's a whole universe in there? No light and no particles can escape it so maybe the particles sucked into a black hole are condensed into infinitely small pieces. What we think of as large & complex masses such as stars & planets could be just matter sucked into the black hole that is our universe.

We don't see that. Every measurement that has be done tells us that the amount of information has remained the same, and cannot change, or the Laws of Physics break down. We have brilliant telescopes that give us different types of the most amazing images of the visible universe but even they are lacking in many ways. What if there is no matter within the grasp of the black hole that we're living in? What if the area where information is sucked in is way beyond what our telescopes can see?

Read Dr. Susskind's book "The Black hole War" and you will see how this argument was broken down. It took Susskind and a few other colleagues who believe him years to disprove Dr. Hawking's belief. It is beautifully written and Susskind gives credit where credit is due throughout. He also mentions his great admiration for Stephen Hawking throughout.

Actually both were right. Susskind because he was correct that info is not lost but stored at the end of the event horizon, but also Hawking was right because although the info is right there preserved at the edge of the black hole, there is NO idiot who would ever venture to go and gather it, or no way to gather it, thus it is practically irretrievable, thus LOST.

@fedguy64 IT seems to me that Hawking was actually right because information would simply just decay into nothingness, this meaning that it would disappear. Same thing happens to a, b, gamma particles, once they are emitted they will travel certain distance and then decay and finally just disappear. So, both were right, information was retreavable as long as it did not decay to infinitesimal sizes, but once it did it is lost.

Im not uninformed, but asking a question like "why is a photon massless" is not easy to put into laymen terms for you.
mc2 = hf => m=hf/c2
This is how they calculate the mass of a photon.
There is a thing called wave/particle duality. So as a particle, the photon has a mass but as a wave it only has a frequency
And Blackholes do emit radiation, in the form of hawking radiation.

Yes hawking radiation is a theory, but it is a very good theory that has stood up to over 30 years of scrutiny. There is no good reason yet to suppose hawking radiation does not exist, especially because of the evidence in support of it. Dont hold your breathe for this theory to be dismessed anytime soon.
I dont really understand what your asking in regards to the time distortion for satellites, but know that this is because time is not absolute.

As I said time is not absolute, A second is relative...you understand?. I dont know what particles you are refering to, the factor here is gravity. The closer to the earth you are, the more time dilation there is because of the gravitational pull of the earth. So time is 'slower' at the earth then it is in space. Not only that but every single person's clock on there wrist is also relative, but the difference is so small its neglagible.

It wasnt that i read or watched, i just put the two together, it was Brian Cox talking on breakfast news about time in space being slower than earth time, and then i read an aticle about those muons i think and i just put those together of came out with this realy...but we arnt doing it right are we? if gravity effect particles, would you think it would change the way they act in a HC in space? so in areas of space, time could be very slow where no stars could create any pull of gravity??
