However, for the most part PMSCs provide contracted services that governments and organisations cannot realistically and viably provide themselves. 1. 1500m is double to triple the effective range of an AR15; that light little bullet goes trans-sonic at about 700 yrds depending on bullet weight, so 1500m is well overstating it.
2. The AK is NOT "only good at extreamly close range" - we easily made hits on man-sized targets at 300 yards with iron sights.

@AndyCinDallas You have to be talking 223 or 556....I'm shooting 308. I did use the 556, and there's lot's of reasons to stay in that caliber, but I just really like the way a 308 can punch into brick/adobe walls and get at whats behind them.
As for the AK you used to get 300 yd hits, where was it from? Every piece I've picked up has the lands & grooves about gone (smooth bore AK lol!). Sure, AK is a tough gun but it still needs a little love every once in a while.
@MrVonKruger - .223/5.56 is the standard caliber for an AR15 - if you're shooting .308, I imagine you're referring instead to the AR10 series, not the AR15 (and yep, I prefer .308 too).

Yeah, Romanian would have been ex-milspec so it was probably taken care of. Mostly its junk here in the Middle East, knock off copies with REAL low standards or just worn to hell from useage. Great place to collect guns though, found a MG 42, still in crate, in Kabul a few months ago and a .303 Maxim machine gun last year :)) How these ended up here, who knows.
@MrVonKruger - a .308 cartridge won't fit into an AR15 receiver - it's too long, hence my question as to what you have. I haven't yet seen a .308 capable of doing any decent job at 1,500 yards, so I guess yours must be quite some custom job.
@AndyCinDallas DPMS makes a good one, and Armalite, but for me the performance is really in the rounds. I do use cheap NATO for the drums & mags I carry, but for REAL dead nuts on shooting I also have two 30 rounders with die-tooled rounds. Yeah, before you ask, SERIOUSLY fucking expensive and the man who makes them is very choosy about who he sells to. As he once told me "Military shoots millions of rounds and may hit a few, mine ya need just one." He was right too, the old coot :)

Well we have a choice. More troops to provide protection to civilians or groups like Black Water.
I understand the concerns but I am not aware of any Black Water agents that have been arrested or jailed because of their actions. I am also aware that civilian truckers and such are not allowed to care fire arm's to protect themselves making them favorite targets.
The only other option is the Iraq Police and Military doing these jobs. I don't know if we can trust them to do so in some cases.

keep in mind, PMC's are for defensive purposes, they're job is not to hunt down insurgents, so most of the killings are justified. on the other hand, it is a little shady when it comes to the civilian shootings by blackwater and whatnot. you'd think they would have more discipline, being mainly former military and all. but i suspect its like any group. you have your 10%ers that ruin it for the rest.

i've worked with black water, they do security for our construction firm. if you think there the best of the best then your a twat. saw one guy firing at a "potential hazard", the dude chewed thirty bullets at three round burst. role up close and it's an suv with a family having lunch in it, they didn't even know they were being shot at. advice for blackwater. use single shot bolt action. stay at momas house and shoot off the porch.

Well we have a choice. More troops to provide protection to civilians or groups like Black Water.
I understand the concerns but I am not aware of any Black Water agents that have been arrested or jailed because of their actions. I am also aware that civilian truckers and such are not allowed to care fire arm's to protect themselves making them favorite targets.
The only other option is the Iraq Police and Military doing these jobs. I don't know if we can trust them to do so in some cases.

There is nothing wrong with contract security. If you enjoy the work and are good at it, why not get paid for your knowledge and skills. Contractors have the same rules of engagement as the military. The difference is, we and most special forces members are professionals. We don't brag and when things go wrong, as they sometimes do, we see nothing, hear nothing and know nothing. We are not murder for hire. We are warriors fighting an enemy that hides behind women and children.
