I lot of drummers angle their snares, especially in metal. I've seen metal drummers' kits with all the toms and the snare almost facing them. It's because it's easier to throw your wrists forward during fills than it is to throw them flat down. Also, flat horizontal drum surfaces are normally found in jazz and blues where there are a lot of doubles and rudiments. There are really no rudiments in metal; all single strokes.

Single-stoke rolls and fills are far more common in metal on average. I know Chris Adler uses a lot of rudiments with his feet but virtually none with his sticks. Michael Van Dyne uses some with his sticks, and absolutely none with his feet. Zbigniew Promiński uses both all the time. Hannes Grossmann uses a fuckton of both. So, yeah. Rudiments do exist in metal, but instances where they're used are few and far between generally.

If you want to see some of the elite guitarists look up Alexi Laiho, Jari Maenpaa, Ryan Knight, or Randy Rhoads. Chris is my personal favourite, but another great drummer you might wanna see is Shannon Lucas, he's very good too.
