Well said Falstaff, although I do believe that a writer, be that a poet or other, needs a trigger so, it is possible, that without experiencing the horrors of war Wifred Owen may never have been able to write such incredible poetry.
SUBJECT MATTER ASIDE, the FORM of this poem, the perfectness of it, of its sound, its metrical fluency--THIS IS AMONG THE GREATEST POEMS OUR LANGUAGE HAS PRODUCED. Now back to the (incidental) subject matter: what a f---ing CESS war is, to take the life of A POET LIKE THIS. This man was Shakespeare, killed at--what?--26 or 27? Had he lived to write about more than war, GOOD LORD WHAT A POET WE MIGHT HAVE HAD!
