  • @beats1969 SQ2 series.

  • @PoeticJustice05 thanks ! beautiful drums for the finest drummer .

  • Шило с Кровостока хуячит.)))

  • at the beginning i thought he got tatooed on both arms XD

  • And not a single fuck was given! (the paper bag next to JoJo xD)

  • @Felexor7911

    It's probably full of weed....

  • Blur the shit out of those sticks JOJO!!!!!!

  • Love the snare and the drummer. Good lord. Lol

  • I wouldnt even be able to do those faces.. not speaking about the drumming it self

  • 2:22 Jazz blast beats??

  • Amazing chops. Wow!

  • Does the music that these guys are playing have a name? Or is it just improvisation?

    Thanks!

  • @diogoffc The song is called Drei im Quadrat by Depart

  • i like that he doesnt use a freaking huge stupid sized kit, yet still make better beats then those who do. :D

  • Looks like he was gone shopping (the bag next to him) and he came in for a quick solo.

  • Oh my fucking god.

The only man that could make you look like you just started playing set, no matter how good you think you are, and to be wearing a shirt like that...

    Those fills. Wow. Wow. Wow.

  • Seeing Jojo in a jazz combo made my day.

  • I absolutely enjoyed this video. It made me clinch palms because its so good. Id like to be that good, and if I never see that day, i know that its possible.

  • to lazy bastard69: not throwing stones here but where you say jojo "fucks up a little" - is just him loosening up and letting the sticks hit the rims multiple times.....he's a big a fan of tony williams and tony used to try shit right there on the fly and he would hit his rims too...and i LOVE the sound of that mixed in but yeah, i agree - he is just human, or a human monster! :)

  • That fill at 3:14 is awesome.

  • at 3:02 he fucks up a little. nice to hear that even jojo mayer is just a human being :)

  • I've been sitting down and making fart noises on my drums for 5 years. I should probably learn how to play.

  • bad man. bad, bad man.

  • For some reason I always really really loved that thing he does from 2:14 to 2:18

  • very good

  • 9/8...????

  • Well, someone practiced their rudiments.

  • Love the snare sound <3

  • Oh man I thought those were TATOOS on his arms at first...

  • Brilliant, he dare to make misstakes, that's live on a drumkit

  • i want to be jerked bye his left hand.

it seems it would be the greatest thing anyone could ever feel

  • Jojo should never be categorized with another drummer. He is one of a kind.

  • wait, so he's not left handed? because i am and i sure can't do some of that stuff..

  • w8, dislikes?? How can you NOT like this amazing video?

  • WOOOOOOWWW!

    Jojo YOU THE MAN!!!

  • 1:30 jojo punk beats :D

  • man that left hand technique!!!!!!

  • the sound engineer shoudl've taken it easy with the gating on the snare hehe.. otherwise, stll amazing video

  • honest to god this guys hands are fuking machines

  • @DkDrums8 false. no machine can play with that much feel.

  • Comment removed

  • Damn for a minute there I thought Jojo was wearing a wife beater and had loads of tattoos on his arms, but then you see saggy skin on his arms but realise it's a long sleeve shirt. Amazing drumming.

  • Is it just me or does that snare drum sound really really nice?

  • @fallingfromjupiter I think I need that snare right now.

  • @Ramen1020 fer sure black guy sized snare yay! It does sound amazing though.

  • Anyone notice this sounds just like So What by Miles Davis and such?

  • Love Jojo but not the most swinging drummer I ever seen

  • @hetamoses so wich is the most swinging drummer u ever seen?:O

  • jojo shoud really play with a big band

  • his 16" sounds like sex.

  • @nintendorox5 That's funny you say that, 'cause I have sex with my 16"

  • OH! the comparsions... its all about CONTEXT! IMO both of the following are true: JJM>JJ and JJ>JJM

mayer has got some incredible hands and great dynamics

JJ is just a tiny little itty bitty bit more aggressive which i enjoyed during the MOSH PIT!!! CONTEXT!!!

  • It's all about control. Jo jo controls it...

  • at first i thought he is preety tattooed.....but its only his shirt

  • @alcoholicass He wears some cool ass shirts.

  • @jokoyaka where the hell does he get them?! haha

  • @TSyoutubin I really wish knew...

  • this guy is awesome.

  • from to 1:00 to 1:11, he actually stays in time O_o, and its all in 9/8!!!!

  • I need that snare. Exceptionally nice sounding.

  • chuj123456 can take a walk. Jojo looks awesome when he plays and he is awesome when he plays. easily one of the sickest drums on planet earth.

    besides that,

Jojo is definitely one of my fave drummers of all time. he is simply amazing

  • @chuj123456

Aha, so today it's important in music how people look like while playing their instrument? Come on, go and watch some fashion shows or listen and watch to some Emo-Stylerbands you little pussy.

  • Let's be realistic. I always have a shit, shave and a shampoo before on stage, beyond that, who cares?

  • it is important, but you're right. jojo plays relaxed and you can see the ease of his techniques. So you're right

  • @arobdrummer

    Greez!

Sorry, but I disagree. For ME personally, it's important to get my EARS satisfied when I go to a concert, not the eyes. It just makes me angry when scumfucks like "chuj12345" reduce talented artists on their outwardness!!!

  • I completely agree, but the mastery is also how he looks when he plays, like for example if it was lars ulrich playing compared to jojo if you couldn't hear them you could easily tell how much better jojo is just by his fluidity and how clean it looks compared to the douche bag that is lars, but you're right, but most people have no clue, but if it looks easy that is too the simple mind mastery of the instrument

  • you have to admit though that live is all about listening and visually seeing and physically being there. you can't just have one aspect you must embrace them all. I'm sure you agree. you're right little bastards just ruin it for everyone.

  • That is how you play the drums..

  • Much to my chagrin, it's not how I play the drums ;-)

  • This guys amazing! If I had to pick the best between him and Dave Weckl (my two personal favorites right now) for this type of jazz solo I'd have to give it to Dave but JoJo's got that drum 'n bass down for sure.

  • In my personal opinion, JoJo has WAY more jazz in his veins than Dave. But maybe it's just me and my anti-Wecklism :P :P

  • but he play like god = ))))

  • Maybe, but your nick is 1000 times more retard than his appearance! :P ("chuj" means cock in polish)

  • 2:22 moeller!

  • So cool!

  • One of the things that impresses me the most about Mr. Mayer is his dynamics range, he can go from the most soft pianissimo up the loudest forte regardless of how complicated or fast might the music be, and his crescendos and diminuendos are beyond reach. Great innovative drummer for sure.

  • @hmoy24677 Oh yu mean he can play very fucking soft and very fucking loud and go in between of those as his balls pleases no matter how much of a monkey rape it is what he's playing...YEAH totally agree.

  • i think hes the only guy who can be compared to buddy rich on level of skill and feel

  • listen to David Jone's cd, colours of the drum. im sure you will be impressed with that one. :)

  • @lutherrrr steve smith and gavin harrison

  • @lutherrrr well, on skill i think we can put Steve Smith there also.

  • @lutherrrr

Then you need to go listen to Joe Morello.

  • @lutherrrr Tony Williams, Steve Smith.

  • @lutherrrr Maybe skill, but what about all the other jazz and bebop drummers in terms of feel?

  • @lutherrrr I don't hear any Buddy here at all, not remotely.

  • What a drummer, no one can touch him above and beyond.

  • Comment removed

  • 2 22 beats seem like black metal but sounds more f@cking better thanks to the talent of jojOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • so god damn smooth

  • WOAH! Doesnt anyone remember that joey jordison started playing new orleans jazz when he was learning to play at a young age? There are also a few extra slipknot tracks where they are playing jazz tunes. He chose to play metal, as we all choose what music best fits us as individuals, which is why you cant treat drumming as a competition!

  • I notice that Jojo Mayer, Steve Smith, Gavin Harrison, Joe Morello and Buddy Richs names have all been mentioned here. For me they are five of the best drummers now and then.

  • some parts of that remind me of joe morello.

his d&b style of course not but i only mean some parts in that vid..

  • This guys is the most technicly skilled drummer out there, bu my favorite drummer ever would have to be Danny Carey of Tool, i think that he is the most musical drummer out there. but what i consider the BEST drummer to be Gavin Harrison of Porcupine tree

  • Steve Smith, imo, is the best drummer alive. Jojo mayer comes pretty damn close.

  • you must be on crack cocaine

  • steve smiths technique and knowledge of rhythm is just as advanced as jojo mayer, and I believe it to be more advanced. Go listen to him and see for yourself. Don't just insult me and think that's a good basis for an argument.

  • okay drum geek. go find a gig :)

  • There's definitely been a golden age for drummers that's coalesced in the last five years or so. Drummers are simply doing things that were not done before. The closest I can compare it to is what Eddie Van Halen did for guitarists when he arrived with his thing. There are a bunch of them out there pushing boundries. The guy above, Royster, even Steve Smith. It's exciting. I wish Buddy Rich were around to see it. He always complained about the stale state of modern drumming in his later years.

  • well said.

  • ..Jojo has his own style..

  • it seems Jojo just have been to a store and came there by accidend)) look at a bag near him =)

  • wow wowoooo wooooww wooooo wooow wowowwooow

  • haha idiot

  • Oh shit there's a guy playing drums?!?! What the fuck is that shit? That's so 1940's...

    You're a fucking moron.

  • How is it gay if rudiments are what makes drums exciting

  • holy shit 2:22

  • I know! I like how he just throws stuff like that in there like it's not big deal.

  • Well...well it's not. I was under the impression EVERYONE could do that. :p

  • Blast beats, bitch!

  • Jojo has got it man.............

  • 10/5 star.

  • Jojo is my new favorite musician. He flows like water through a river bed.

  • Jojo has his own style! The solo which is over 3 minutes just blew me away. I want to see him do more jazz stuff.(maybe a quiet standard)

  • 3 stars? suck my dick

  • what ride is he using?

  • think its like a sabian signature or sumat, theres a vid on here that shows all his cymbals

  • its his fierce ride from sabian

  • such a nice touch - and great story he tells (those are sonor lites - by the way - best drumset ever made)

  • this solo was just amazing man so musical his melodys flowed like water like you said this solo is just inspirering

  • its cool to see him do some jazz stuff

  • Yeahh the snare sounds awesome...but trust me.....it'll never sound like this when u hit it!:)

  • I WANT THAT SNARE :<

  • trop malade ce jojo ses le top 2009

  • Is that a delite series snare drum? If not anyone know exactly what it is?

  • i dont know but it sounds incredible

  • The entire kit is the Sonor Lite series, they were discontinued unfortunately quite awhile back.....some of the best drums I have ever heard.

  • I thought it was the new Sonor Jungle series. At least, I know he's been doing work with Sonor to develop the series but perhaps you're right.

  • plays OFF the drums.....something not alot of drummers can do....jojo is always blazing.

  • He Flows like water.

  • what an monkey XD

  • Before the solo I thought he was covered in tattoos for a second xD

    xo.

  • me too ghghh

  • Comment removed

  • you can have the exact same drum, heads, snares, and tuning as that and yuou still won't have the same sound. it all depends on micing system and eqing. don't waste your time trying to replicate someone else's sound

  • naw. someone like jojo knows how to play and make the drums sing. watch his dvd and you'll understand.

  • i somewhat agree, however if you watch the videos on his cymbal setup, there is much to be learned about his approach to sound....i do agree his "processing" is gonna be tough to match..not to mention that just his technique would make 5 gallon buckets sound great

  • THat's very correct.

  • Ahhh ... I could listen to him jam forever. He is truly amazing.

  • Technique with music....... MASTER

  • I love how his drums sound. For the sake of argument, "Joey Jordison could rape Jojo eight times in one heartbeat!" hahaha....

  • Whatever dude. Joey Jordison wishes he could play like JoJo. Jordison is mediocre compared to JoJo.

  • OHHHH Yeah.....Joey has speed and power but JoJo has Feel,Dynamics(He can play soft to super loud),Technique, and he can adjust to any situation and genre,AND SPEED.....What can Joey do again?

  • whatever Joey sucks!!! My favorite drummer ever would have to be Danny Carey of Tool. but what i consider the BEST drummer is Gavin Harrison of Porcupine tree

  • well, i think neither joey or jojo suck..

i think they are both respectable drummer and could probably smoke all of us out of the water. They are both good..id like to see any of you guys who talk smack on either of them show them up..

but personally, i prefer jojo's style though..

  • I think its pretty hard to make an argument against Jojo being the best drummer of our time...from a technical standpoint on the drum kit anyway. His hand technique video is ridiculous!

  • Honestly there is no BEST drummer of our time. There are so many great players out there with insane technique and skill. If you really had to pin point one as BEST of all time it would be Buddy Rich. Some may even say Sonny Paine.

  • Buddy Rich is the popular answer for those who don't really know anything. Really Jojo blows Buddy out of the water as do most top drummers today. Buddy was the best of his time but drumming has evolved, and as a whole, has reached levels that Buddy never reached.

  • I actually agree with you. I don't think buddy had the same type of groove going that peter erskine, jojo mayer and many others do.. The music was quite different then ofcourse.

  • depart! yeah!!!!!

  • Jojo f..ing rules man!!!

  • just checked out a bunch of Blade's stuff, seems a little like comparing stevie ray vaughn to saaaaay carlos santanna. Both good (for the record I lean towards Jo Jo) but too different to put into the same catagory if you ask me

  • ya, i think that blade is more out there with regards to his style of jazz, quite random stuff to the uneducated jazz listener...(like myself!)...but jojo is easier to listen to than blade, if you are not an avid jazz lover....but both brilliant

  • from the First time I have heard Jojo to this day

Cant put into words my love for his work.

Yes, quite possibly the best drummer in teh world.

Unlike 95% of others out there, he does not just hammer the drums as fas tas possile and make some beat out of it... He caresses each component and brings each pad and cymbal out in a shivering orgasm of music.

  • your right. comparing Brian to Jojo is silly. but to say brian's stuff is boring is ridiculous. you should listen instead of watching. to me Brian is the most musical drummer today.

  • i love the fact that he readily embraces breakbeat, while other drum snobs are afraid to try new things

  • I think comparing Blade and Mayer is silly. Two totally different playing styles. If you prefer one over the other, it's because you like it better, not because one is better than the other.

  • someone here gets it

  • he's really good but nothing on Brian Blade

  • that is a false statement. I just checked out a bunch of Brian's stuff and it's pretty boring compared to this and Jojo's newer stuff

  • Oh boy! I thought stone cold minds who make dumb comments were only limited to Rock drummers pseudo-critics, the "Neil Peart v.s. Joey Jordison" type. But not when speaking about true artists of the instrument, such as Brian Blade or Jojo Mayer, man.

  • finally a drummer talking sense

  • holy shit i cant get over jojo's impeccable style and execution

  • one of the many things i love about this guy is how melodic his playing is. You can feel the head of the song all the way through his solo same as true with his electronic stuff the most evolved drummer on the planet right now

  • great JOJO!!!

  • best drummer in the world

  • Confession time ... when i first heard Jo Jo Mayer I thought he was nothing but a clone of Weckl . The extreme chops , the mind boggling accuracy , the amazing fluidity .. i thought Jo Jo was simply " out weckling weckl " . But I was wrong man , dead wrong . Jo Jo definitely has his own thing going on . The modernity of his playing , the house influences , the drum and bass influences , the techno influences . He is the gold standard of what a world class

    drummer is in 2009 .

  • amen!!

  • the fact that he has been influenced by such music like house and drum n bass shows how much you can take out of any onther style

the hard part is knowing how to do it ;)

  • fucking chops are ridiculous

  • saw that on is dvd but 4got can u tell me wot they r

  • pork chops man........wait I thought this wuz a cooking video nevermind!

  • no its ok this is a cookin vid cant you see how he is holdin the egg beaters and hitting plates with them

  • I wonder if guys like Jojo have to rehearse a lot or they know the basics and improvise as they go?
