  • So say I have bought the song in question in the past and the vinyl, disc, 8 track, cd is long gone. and I download the exact copy is that illegal?

  • So just go the public library and check out the CD, then you can rip it with the government's help.

  • you could catch lots of people illegaly downloading by looking in the peers section and tracing ip adresses i could do it myself if i wanted

  • So if I want to download some old Simon and Garfunkel songs from frostwire, is that illegal?

  • @Bekka077 Yes.

  • All of these sites will be shut down cabos, vuze, kaazaa, frostwire, luckywire, lemonwire, and many other sites like them, you people who use these programs are all thieves and you should be sued.I am supporting this fight against piracy. I will be assisting in obtaining IPs from all people who use these programs.I will visit youtube routinely to discover any new music/video piracy site you people post in the comments and we will have that site shut down.

  • @Keepskatin Watch version 2.

Can I ask you, is giving out information bad? I'm speaking only the truth in this video. Do I use limewire? No, I buy physical CDs mostly. You're worse than D.A.R.E. for drugs...lying to the public to change mindsets and make people ignorant. Provide information, the truth, then let the people decide for themselves. D.A.R.E. says "all drugs kill you" with no information or logic really, just force, and make people scared with police force. Tell the truth to the ppl!

  • @Keepskatin

    actually your the thief dumbass

  • @Halfwayhigh No wonder you're a piracy thief,you're a pot smoker,that explains everything.

  • @Keepskatin Let me guess, you're conservative, you're an evangelical Christian, you live in the South of the United States, and you never went to college?

lol I checked your profile, you're a scientologist, even funnier. Scientology is a cult, a business, made to suck money out of easily led and/or unintelligent people.

  • @rabbidhedgehog Goodbye Megaupload I made a lengthy report of that site to the RIAA a few months ago.I'm not a Scientologist, which is why my profile states unofficial Scientologist.I don't believe in their god,but I do agree with their views on health care,no prescriptions drugs, all natural, all alternative.

  • PARTY FOUL!!!! How r we suppose 2 fill all the fucking gigs we got in our ipods now??

  • Lime wire was shut down NOOOOOOOO

  • @mca4002009 but luckywire was made YAYYYY

  • R.I.P.

  • wait wat isnt songbird illegal too and if its not wat makes it legal O.O

  • so you're saying its like, if i ordered a crack pipe for fun its totally cool, its only illegal if i use it..?

  • @iwaslikepfffft Good analogy. An addition to your analogy would be that it would be legal to smoke tobacco in it but not crack. Although, it's hardly ever used for tobacco. (that was all a metaphor)

  • @rabbidhedgehog thats so true...

  • @rabbidhedgehog its like buying blunts empting them and rolling them with weed

  • so if you download popular songs , its illegal?

  • @rabbidhedgehog: whats good bro, but i have couple of questions..

    1. all sharing music files on limewire are copyrighted correct??

    2. how can u get cought if ur sharing music files anonymously??

    3. how can they detect / or locate my IP address if im sharing music files anonymously??

  • @LoveFromADominican See my new informative video on my channel. I re-did this one. But ill answer anyway.

    1. No, not all are copyrighted. 90% is copyrighted. 9% is uncopyrighted porn. 1% is completely legal

    2. The sharing process is like a "river" of information (bits). the RIAA just launches a boat in that river and wherever the boat's taken to, is dead.

  • @zatch97 no.....Thumbs up for you!

  • my question is..

if limewire is "illegal" why hasnt the government hasn't done anything 2 stop it ??

  • @thecityboy781 Did you even listen to the video. I said it wasn't illegal. The majority of the network of people using the program (millions of people) are the ones doing something illegal. How do you stop millions of people from using a perfectly legal program for illegal purposes? Exactly.

  • @ogerman32 Jail? No one except for the four people who ran The Pirate Bay. However, ton's of people have had to pay huge sums of money per track they downloaded illegally, up to $150,000 per track downloaded. A random story I just found said a mother had to pay 222,000 for downloading 24 files. I can give you a trustworthy link to an article about tons of more stories, just send me a personal message.

  • wow so limewire uses a whole-nother internet?

  • @NeoConSIayer hehehe, No, there's only one internet. Kinda like there's one earth. However, it uses a different protocol. It's a network of people, but the only thing that can be transferred is files. Uses a different firewall port.

  • @ogerman32 Do you know what the definition of "illegal" is? It's "breaking the law", aka doing something against a written document that you agreed to. Believe it or not, when you downloaded Limewire, THEIR TERMS AND CONDITIONS that YOU agreed to (whether you read it or not) said that downloading any Copyrighted material from it is illegal and you CAN be fined millions of dollars in court for it. It's not up to you to decide what's illegal or not. For example, pot should be legal. Is it? No.

  • @rabbidhedgehog i got limewire, and only download mp3 format not more obiously the rest are trash for my pc, note:if u read:ebony girl get trilled by 2 hard cocks dont click it,its a trap and ppl know this.salut

  • WHATS BETTER LIMEWIRE OR ARES

  • why do you talk like you are drowsy/out-of-breathe/mumbling ?

  • @Isreal4realz 1. It sounds like I was sick 2. puberty. I was 12 then.

  • sleeping sleeping sleeping talking.

  • Songbird is a great program, when u say it's free to listen to music, I believe u mean the link between songbird and last.fm. last.fm will cost you 3 dollars a month after a trial which is really cheap and it's a great way to listen to similar music that u listen too by using a service called scrobbling which takes what u listen too though songbird and any other media player that supports scrobbling and last.fm and compares it to what others are listening too with the same taste of music as you.

  • @jr0sco Wait...I already use last.fm but it doesn't charge me anything. It's a great service though. I'd pay 3 dollars a month for it any day.

  • @rabbidhedgehog Yeah I had a dig around its only free in UK,USA and Germany. I'm from Aus so I have to pay a $3 a month subscription , but it's still cheap.

  • take some speech lessons or something

  • @ChieftainNoah good life lesson :)

  • so limewire isnt illegal its the files you download are illegal

  • @TheDorkySquirrel Precisely! Finally someone gets it...

  • @TheDorkySquirrel but it doesnt matter because whether it is illegal or not, its not a crime and its not unlawful.

  • @thered702 I'm pretty sure that stealing is a crime, and I'm pretty sure stealing is unlawful. Sure, there are illegal things that shouldn't be, but this still is no matter how good it sounds.

  • @rabbidhedgehog i dont believe that information of any kind can be stolen. if someone else has it and gives it to me its a gift and is not stolen. thats like buying a cd and giving it to someone else. that person is then stealing from the artist because they didnt buy it too? trace the torrent to the source. someone paid for it, so it cant be stolen if they give it away. if they charged for it and didnt pay the artist THEN it would be theft.

  • @thered702 Listen, I have no problem with torrenting or pirating at all. I actually think that it HELPS the artist because it spreads their popularity immensely by making it available to people who can't afford it (like me...im 15 now). However I still consider it a type of stealing. Sure, TECHNICALLY it's sharing, but it's sharing to the masses. No matter how greedy most music labels and distributors are, you're still subtracting money from their work (and record stores!!!)

  • buddy the proram is not illgel what u download it

  • @marcinzi Rephrase your statement, I can't understand it. If you're saying that limewire isn't illegal, then you are right. That's the point of my video.

  • i have a laptop with windows 7 and i cant get songbird for that version what now ?

  • Pay a million dollars if you illegally download? how much of an idiot are you, yes the gorvernment is going to go ''i tell you what we'll show whos boss and make an example of this nobody by pounding them back to 1999''

  • @scout79739 Do research before you post a comment like this. It's not the government who presses charges, it's record companies. Clearly, most of the mainstream ones are greedy little bastards. Due to their terms, multiple songs downloaded illegally can add up to a million...and you'd have to be the one paying because they're the ones suing (and probably winning the case).

  • @rabbidhedgehog

youve just proved my point, theres no court in the land that will slap a bill on a causal illegal downloader of a million dollars

  • I like to see the Goverment build a prison big enough for all those Torrenteers... Good luck.. The prisons are already over crowded. They are letting people out of prisons in Calfornia into the streets.. They can;t afford to keep the real offenders inside....hahahahahahahaah Let alone get another many more millions of Torrent Users...hahahahahaheheheh 1 sec ago

  • I don't understand the point of this video, you aren't revealing anything that people didn't already know.

  • @jethrotull346 What if an indigenous tribe in South Africa were to suddenly watch this video?

  • @rabbidhedgehog The chances of that happening are 1 in like 500,000 or some number like that.

  • @rabbidhedgehog they would be smarter

  • @rabbidhedgehog they wouldn't understand english.

  • Thanks for the tips you have right ;) (Y)

  • I'm just going to say, i remember seeing some episode on 20/20 (or something like that) about lime wire. As I remember it they installed lime wire on 3 different machines, one with very high protection anti virus program, another with medium protection, and the other one with no protection. They checked how each machine was doing every week or so and found that all of them were getting viruses like crazy.... just saying

  • I don't have an ipod and the only way I listen to music is through Limewire. Is it legal for me to just listen to the songs without sharing? I don't want to buy songs from Itunes because theres no point buying songs for an ipod when I don't even have one.

  • Yes, of course it's illegal. You're still downloading the songs for free....that's illegal; no matter what you do with the content afterwards.

  • any risk on people living outside of U.S ?? for example ( middle east, canada ) i mean they r not gonna fly over so they can bust my ass right ?

  • Sure they could. Personally, i would go to FilesTube . c o m to download music and to the pirate bay to download applications. Impossible to get caught using filestube, its just like google but for files on the internet.

  • how do you know if a song is illegal or not?

  • The more we all use limewire the less chance we get caught!! sounds good to me ;)

  • fuk U!!

  • so if i download music from limewire im doing something illegal??..wats file sharing i dont understand the term?

  • @h22jdm1 Hi there. No, downloading music is not NECESSARILY illegal, but downloading COPYRIGHTED songs on limewire IS illegal. Basically, "File sharing" is when you make a file available for everyone in the world to download; in turn; you download stuff from others' computers. However, many people make music, movies which you should PAY for available for download, which is why you might get sued if you get caught and end up paying thousands for EVERY SONG you download. Sucks, right?

  • Except its not thousands for every song because thats illegal in itself. the most is 100 bux a song. If you download 500 songs, thats 50,000 which I don't think anyone here can pay, so you go to jail for 500 accounts of downloading copywrite music....

So what I pay so much taxes, I can't not pay for a 2 doller song? Damn.... legal systems suck

  • thats the attitude dude you go dude

carry that attitude 4 ever dude

  • why are people so mean I just want to live in a nice world v.v :-(

  • hey thanks for telling me this cause i was about to download lime wire and i wanted to know if it was safe.you might of saved me from a long time in jail

  • bullshit. there are absolutely no risks associated with limewire as long as you don't share files. If you don't share files, the police have no way of tracking you. If you just download, you should be fine. To avoid viruses, only download mp3 songs and don't download movies.

  • @fightinside1 but that doesnt nesessarily mean that some mp3 songs dont have viruses, but it's true that MOST viruses are found in movies.

  • i just uninstalled limewire off my computer but i want to know can songbird get you viruses?

  • I use MP3 Rocket.. NO viruses.

  • My buddy works for my ISP and he says the only way people get caught is if they leave limewire open and it constantly uploads gigs of data all day (the ISP will send you an email to stop file sharing) And finally, If a company finds out their product is being shared on limewire they will monitor all IP's and send the ISP a notification that you are illegally sharing their product. If you use torrents or limewire don't share what you have downloaded and close the app when downloads are finished

  • to many critical asswipes on here

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • If you want to share files without being traceable then you should google "freenet classic opennet". bullet proof anonymous file sharing!

  • FUCKING GROUND OR ILL RAPE YOU A MILLION DOLLARS BECAUSE YOU DOWNLOADED 1 MOVIE THAT YOU ARENT SUPPOSED TO!"

I personally think thats okay to do it if your wanting to test a game...but just delete the torrent file and data... almost every1 uses a torrent i said ALMOST... theres ppl with utorrent with over 1000 things... from music to games to porn... have they got cought? just dont download excessivly if youre thinking about using one!

  • i use utorrent and get games...i delete the games afterwords to delete ALL traces but the ip was tracked...so you cant really trust...i still get em even though i can pay a bajillion dollar fine... i clicked on a link and it traced my ip, time, adress, and all the basic crap...EVERY SITE DOES THAT! dont worry though...u can use it...but not excessivly is my advise...but its better safe than sorry as is just dont use it if you feel like the fbi is gonna bust through your door yelling "GET ON THE

  • that is the virus that i go on my computer the damn trojan virus!

  • its not ilegal to download the songs or anything else off of limewire it is only ilegal to upload a song or program to limewire, so it is SAFE!!!!!

  • ares is a virus itself

  • Here's what my dad told me:

If you use Limewire for yourself,it's not illegal.

If you share that music with others, then it's illegal

  • That's kind of like saying you aint stealing unless you get caught.

  • Man it's amazing how the majority of people on youtube are idiots, this guy is clear as day, but people are still asking idiot questions. Thanks for the information, but I think I'll take my chances, I prefer Frostwire though, still uses the Gnutella network, but it's more lowkey than Limewire.

  • Yeah. If I were to file share, I would definitely use Frostwire :)

    Thanks!

  • but limewire and frostwire are exactly the same frostwire is a branch off limewire made by the same company its the same i got a virus from frostwire but i cured it

  • if people think limewire is illegal then why invent limewire in the first place? it's just stupid...

  • USING limewire is not illegal, but face it, there is nothing else people do on there besides download copyrighted material.

Downloading copyrighted songs off limewire is a form of copright infringment, If they choose to (which they do, sometimes) they can track your IP address, find you, and fine you up to 2200$ PER song. If you choose to SELL the songs you have downloaded, you have commited a criminal offense. the U.S.C is quite clear on this, in the copright infringment section.

  • wait so it is illegal download? Because i thought that u break the law when u distribut not download copyrighted material.

  • Yes it is illegal to take content from someone who is breaking the law to distribute it. In other words. its like knowingly accepting free items from a criminal who stole them.

  • I use limewire to get songs, but how do you know what songs are not copy righted....i am assuming that Limewire isn't illegal just all the shit on it and in it is....sooooo....is getting songs from limewire illegal? Or is putting songs you bought from Itunes onto Limewire illegal..please respond...

  • Both are against the law.

And its safe to assume that every song is copyrighted. Unless its older then 20. Then its freegame.

  • Did you just make up this 20 year rule? So this means that if an artist that wrote a song 20 years ago on that very date twenty years later he loses all rights to it? I think you have been misinformed. Not that I care I download whatever. I have given plenty of money to the music industry over the years.

  • Nah, of course there are still rights, but there less strict about file sharing the older the content is. What are they going to be more strict on, Miles Davis' Kind of Blue or Jonas Brothers latest album? Probably the "pop" music, right?

  • Its not a random rules. Its just the most music copyright contracts last about 20 years.

  • so ur saying we cant download songs off of frostwire but its legal to get it out of songbird??????

  • Both are illegal. But it's way, way more likely for you to get caught using Limewire, because some files track the IP addresses that have downloaded&shared that file. On songbird, you're just downloading the song from the internet.

  • Yo dude so say I downloaded music and put them on my ipod. The songs I downloaded and I say I pick the option on limewire not sharing, Am I safe?

  • limewire lets you download songs, movies, episodes, i think pictures i dont download images

  • LimeWire is designed to share popular music, I don't really care if it is illegal.

  • if you downloaded songs and put them on youre ipod and stuff like that but than deleted limwire for good could you get cought form the downloads allredy downladed ?????

  • You would have to delete the file(s) from your Shared folder, Most likely found in your documents folder. You still could get caught though...maybe a 0.01% chance. that's still 1 in 10,000, though.

  • LOL LIMEWIRE LRN 2 break into cars and steal cds Im too hardcore for torrents

  • rabbighedgehog limewire like you sayed a FILE SHARING PROGRAMME! meaning you share unpayed items. google is a search engine not a drug dealer. I think you might need to rethink this one!

  • Hammers aren't illegal, yet you can smack someone in the head with a hammer and go to prison. Same principle.

File sharing is as legal as web browsing, same thing.

  • Fantastic point, gubatron.

  • mclovin, is that you?

  • ROFL, he sounds a little mclovinish.

Awesome info, shameless Songbird PR plug at the end though

  • rofl everyone in my school and other schools use limewire never knew it was illegal

  • That's what i'm saying, that it is NOT illegal. Limewire is legal. Downloading a song off of it is illegal. Limewire is basically a search engine, like google. If you search google for cocaine, and you buy the cocaine from online, then is google illegal? no.

  • What??? Me and my family has used that shit for 4 years, and we never got any fining notices whatsoever. How is that possible and illegal, if the record companies didn't charge us? And now all of the sudden it's illegal? I'm confused. So downloading an file off of Limewire NOW is illegal? That's fucking stupid, they should just shut down the program in the first place, because Itunes is kicking their ass, tenfold.

  • ._. it didn't just become illegal...

  • Yes it did. Sorry hackers/plagiarizers/internet pirates, but Itunes is the law now. Itunes rules more anyways.

  • Downloading music has always been illegal, it didn't just become illegal now and you can get music from other places then Itunes.

  • I meant Limewire was Illegal last year, and still is. I know that every file-sharing program (Napster, lol) was illegal. And until they legalize every one of those programs or have better one's than Itunes, until then, I'm sticking with Itunes.

  • I cant tell. Anyways, how do you know? What if I downloaded all of Mastodon's albums (they are that epic, yes!!) ??? Because their album Crack They Skye came out in March this year!!!!

  • That doesn't make the program illegal

and no, I have never heard of them, I don't listen to music much.

  • yes limewire is illegal

  • its safer to just assume that limewire is illegal. Because its not used for anyhing else besides downloading copyrighted conent. Google is different because it is used for things that arnt illegal.

  • "I meant Limewire was Illegal last year, and still is. I know that every file-sharing program (Napster, lol) was illegal"

That is not true. The programs in of themselves are not illegal.

  • Okay, whatever man, it was probably a worthless opinion of mine. Fuck, it is impossible to trust anyone in the world.

  • Indeed trust is hard especially when we have people on both sides of the issue lying out their asses making it harder for people like you, me, and rabbidhedgehog to get the facts.

  • I know man. Thanks for the video man.

  • Limewire was never illegal and is not now. Think of Limewire like Google. What Limewire does, is it searches a particular network for your query. So saying that Limewire is illegal is similar to saying that Google is illegal because YOU searched for copyrighted songs which it IS illegal to download for free.

  • Oh thanks dude.

  • thanks 4 the site please subscribe

  • LOL I thought this was going to be about P2P programs spying on you or something groundbreaking.

BUT to summarize your video: "Copyright infringement is illegal and YOU (not Limewire) might get caught. Better to be safe and pay for songs."

Thank you captain obvious! Why do you guys waste your time making this dreck? Seriously? I want to know...

  • so why don't they get rid of limewire if it is being used illeagley way more than legally

  • Why should the Limewire people get rid of the program? Well, because they make alot of money from the ads in limewire...and if they're not liable then why would they get rid of the program?

  • why is pot illegal but head shops can still sell water pipes and weed?4 tobacco use of course.

  • I have a question can limewire give you viruses??? And nice review by the way :)

  • If Limewire gave you a virus, then I would give you a trillion dollars.

You see, the Limewire is not where you get the virus from. Limewire is just like Google Web Search. Except instead of searching the internet, it searches an entirely different network. What I'm trying to say is that searching and downloading a song on Limewire is basically like searching Google for "Free Trojan Viruses!", and downloading it. Now, is Google giving you the virus? No! Someone else is. Google isn't liable.

  • nice one hedgehog.

  • oh...

  • OMG so my naghbor was just trying to scare me so i wont get Fine!!!! OMG are u really telling truth ! or is there a safer just tell! me witch is the safer limewire or any other one!

  • They are all the same...the only difference is look and speed.

  • I need some sort of song to download legally that can be in windows media player format for a school project.. Im making a video on "The history of music, modern and past" Someone msdg me within the next 3 days plsssss

  • Very good video :)

  • No. There is alot of music out there that isn't protected. If you were in a band, recorded a simple song, put it on the network, that song isn't copyrighted. All songs that you can find off iTunes are copyrighted..check there to see if the song you are about to download is copyrighted. After you download, make sure that you check it for viruses, because that's what can give you viruses (not limewire, the song)

  • I would recomend all of you to get "avast"!

    rabbidhedgehog is a SAINT!

Mute comes with all sorts of trojans...

and most free p2p carry undetectable Chinese viruses that share your entire hard drive... and upload/ download other junk without your knowledge!

I have yet to encounter any file sharing program (free p2p) that did not contain at least two trojans!

  • if you are going to down loed a movie.. and you dont want a virus goole how much gbs are in the movie than look for the movie on limewire and make sure its looks the same so if its a 700 kbs movie look for something like 670 or 730kbs cuz it might be some waht more or less thats how i got lesident evil on my ipod..

  • oh and ur ipod can get a virus on it so watch the full movie than put it on sometimes the poeple hide the virus on the movie so it is just the 1st 5 min of the movie to trick you

    -alex

  • Or maybe you can be less stupid than they think you are and scan the filefor viruses before running it!

Just use you head sometimes Buddy!

  • dude 1st dont be such a dick i just wanted to help.. and 2nd a file scan does like nothing..?

you still can get a virus from something you scanned all it does is a look inside the file and see if something weird is in it... and like i said you can hide a virus in a file even if you scan it you still dont know if its there

  • waht about music videos

  • I would bet a trillion dollars that it did not. The files which you downloaded has viruses which messed up your computer. If Limewire did it, don't you think the would be sued already?

  • nice i rated it 5 out of 5 is song bird illegal though i might subscribe you must prove you self!!!!

  • Fuck limewire. It's full of aids and fail. If you're gona pirate shit use warez-bb and just google "artist name" "album name" blogspot.

  • *or not and.

  • if you get limewire pro and accidently download copyright.

and they happen to catch you.

can you get arrested/fined because technichally you are paying for it.

  • Yes you can get arrested, and you are not paying for it. You are paying just to have a faster search and no ads. That's it. You're still searching multiple file sharing networks and downloading illegal songs/whatever. Limewire isn't going to pay for that, or anything you do.

  • Limewire etc know exactly what they're doing, they KNOW it's going to be used for 'illegal' file sharing, they're just covering their asses with the disclaimer.Limewire is a giant trojan nest anyway.

  • I agree with the first part of your statement. however, Limewire is not a giant trojan nest. The Gnutella network is a giant trojan nest, and limewire has no affiliation with that. limewire just searches that.

  • Limewire maybe a giant trojan nest, but you got to be careful of what your downloading. If you want to download a song, for example, the size would usually be below 5kbs and below. Anything higher than 2 mb, is a virus your downloading.

  • No dude it's the other way around, normally virus servers are really low KBs, anything LOWER then 2mb is normally a gay little sub7 trojan.

  • thats kool thanks for the info

  • Finally, the kind of comment i want! Thanks.

  • ok then how do you get songs to play in your videos background then?

  • I buy them off iTunes!

  • i do have i tunes but it wont let me put them in my vid

  • The reason I do not use file sharing programs is because of moral reasons. Its not because its music, its because file sharing programs are a sick haven for child porn. Thats why I think there wrong
