  • I remember you saying you have long tubes correct? but What header brand are running? I might just get Shorties for clearance but heck if i long tubes fit then please do tell how you got them to fit (product name, part #) I have not yet found long tubes for these cars. I'm sure parts of the a/c will have to be modified. Haha Its a tight mess I'll yeah

  • Still sounds great! So the exhaust is off and there more to it then meet the eye. According to thirdgen.org There're some factors I didn't give concern. They all appreciate the hooker 2055 headers. If I may as, what size tubing are these header and what size are you currently runnging? I'm wondering what's best for our power band apparently which is Low to mid range.

  • @Mexican474 The primaries are 1 5/8" and the collectors are 3". I am using the same size tubing now. This size tubing is ideal for a stock to mild thirdgen.

  • @Mexican474 Going bigger on the tubing allows for more power, but you have to have more power already in order to benefit. Small power and big pipes won't yield more power, just less backpressure.

  • Thanks a lot! Your a good Guy. Ha! Cause Most people on YouTube talk smack. Yeah. I've heard more from you than the websites I've been on that I've been doing all my research

  • Thanks thats great advice compared to anyone i know. Well its a project that we're working on me and my brother something we can work on together. And yeah I imagine my neighbor would get frustrated lol but eventually I would like this thing to run close to 11's or 10 on the track. Other than the exhaust we were thinking about putting a street cam or drag cam (if there's enough clearance).

  • @Mexican474 Good luck with your project and let me know if you want any other advice on the matter in the future!

  • And idk I really don't plan on putting an exhaust system. I like the aggressive sound of the open headers. Correct me if I'm wrong but I do think these f-body's need some kinda back pressure, correct?

  • @Mexican474 The benefits of longtubes outweigh the benefits of shortys. I picked up a few tenths at the track when I moved from shorties to longtubes. You will NOT want to run straight headers-only exhaust - it's obnoxiously loud, is sure to get you a ticket, and to tick off neighbors! I only did it in this video for fun - then we finished up the exhaust. Typically, lower compression engines benefit from a complete exhaust. Higher compression engines breathe better with headers only or cutouts.

  • Wow I'm enlighten I would never guessed that. Thanks for the advice. I probably go with Shorty headers. I imagine I would need more torque for my car then HP since torque is what gives the acceleration. At least to my knowledge.

  • long tubes, I thought long tubes wouldn't fit on these Camaro f-body's?? Lol sorry i dont mean to sound like an amateur but is there much of a difference between Shorty headers and long tubes? Is one better than the other. Pro and cons

  • @Mexican474 A few years ago that was true, but numerous companies have fabbed up proper long tube headers for the 82-92 Camaro/Firebird now. The biggest issue is where to put the exhaust tubing under the car. Most opt for a y-pipe setup that joins after the transmission crossmember so they can then bring the tubes back to the stock location. I ended up with the hawks double hump crossmember and two straight pipes underneath it straight back. longtubes=more hp, shorties=more tq

  • Wow, great sound so what brand of headers do you have on this 86 Iroc? Cause I'm looking for some. Let me guess, are they headmans?

  • @Mexican474 Actually, at the time they were Hooker Shorty headers. I have since revamped the entire exhaust and gone with Hedman longtubes, 2.5" straight pipes, s-bends, and 2 flowmaster 40 series 2 chamber mufflers.

  • @555vengador put in the motor that has more power. which ever one fits better. Research the motors

  • buddy, I have one like this but RS 1987 , my camaro have a v6 engine 2.8 liter and I am thinkin puting a v8 LT1 or LT5 engine, which do you recommend? LT5 or LT1???

  • Freaking awesome, would you like to be my technical consultant?

  • sounds better with open headers

  • do you have any pipes on that at all? or an exhaust? if so, what kind?

  • i just got a 90 iroc 5speed wit a 91 corvette 350. yo shit sound clean as hell

  • I have a 1985 iroz z ....it was loud ass fukk i put hedders nd took it to d muffler shopp so dey can well nak my shittt nd now ot sounds like a stok camaro help meee

  • THAT'S THE WAY A MUSCLE CAR SHOULD SOUND!

  • Nice, I'm getting my 86 Iroc Z28 repiped. I have a buddy who does custom exhaust its the coolest thing. He gets the car in the air, looks at it for about 5 minutes, then leaves and comes back 20 minutes later with a whole new exhaust, all in one piece that fits exactly as it should, and sounds amazing. It is soo neat.

  • all i heard was.... SLLLOOOOOW... SLOOWWWWWW....SLOOOOWWW

  • @MrTherealguido you wouldt know fast if it bit you in the ass

  • is that the stock 5 speed? I have one in mine, but I've heard that they don't take the abuse of high horsepower very well, so I'm wondering if I should change it.

  • @OKredneck At the time, this was the stock non WC-T5. That one gave up 5th gear after awhile, so I replaced it with a WC-T5. The WC-T5 did fine for me, but I opted to switch to the much stronger T56 6-speed when I built the new engine for my car.

  • @plasmeh thanks for the info. Mine must be a NWC because it's an 87. I am definately into the t56 swap when and if I find one around here for a decent price.

  • @OKredneck I forget how to check if you have a WC or non-WC T5. I think it has something to do with the serial tag on the transmission. T56 is definitely worth the swap.

  • I like the sound of that.

  • @irocz28iroc Thanks man - this video is quite old at this point, check out my new videos, too =)

  • Watch him as hes backing out....he gets T bonede by a PRIUS lmao!

    BTW. Its-not-loud-enough!

  • Thats how a 3rd gen should always sound, loud, proud and powerful. I cant wait to get my iroc tosound like that :).

  • Well, you just convinced me to take my Camaro out of storage today! i got an 1983 with a fresh 350 and open headers as well=)

  • Strong soundin car buddy, Its nice to see the original vented hood still on! Most people put cowl hoods on, not that i dont like them but its just nice to see them look the way they should!

  • sounds so legit- i cant wait till i get an iroc, i think ill put a butterfly valve before the cats for that classic american sound times 10.

  • Awesome sound, I like how he slows down in case that was a cop. hahaha I do that too.

  • Nice vid

  • open headers sound best on any v8 :D

  • are those long tube headers??

  • Damn, sounds like a freakin' beast!

  • holy shit dude nice car

  • Manual :)

  • 86 iroc's were cool. I think that brake light broke up that expanse of glass pretty well. It's my favorite year even though it had the lowest hp of the available iroc's. I remember seeing a guy in my hood driving a black on gold t-top 86' iroc brand new. At 16, I thought it was the best looking car I had ever seen! 80's camaros actually looked better than 80's corvettes!!!

  • Alright clear up some confusion:

ABSOLUTELY NO CAMAROS THAT CAME WITH THE 5.7L CAME WITH A 5 SPEED. ALL 700R4!!!

    The 305 came with 5 speed and/or 700R4.

  • @jos7886

I know I am no dipshit. it was a option offered in 305's...

  • you could get a 5 speed you had to order it with the 350 car it was standerd with the 305 cars

  • damn nice iroc!!!! very nice sound as well...

    I have an 88 iroc w/ a 305 5-speed got a two vids of the restore.

all 5.0's came stick from the factory while all 5.7's came auto. weird huh

  • @arguello1990

That's not true my 5.0 1988 IROC came with an auto

  • is the motor all stock?

  • I thought IROC camaros were only automatic?

  • yep from stock w/ 350s dont kno bout' 305s

  • most likely aftermarket manual trans was put in!

  • I always liked how this gen camaros sound good job

  • yeah its the sucky 700R4 and the 4L60E are junk they are better boat anchers

  • i have a 700R4 in my 94 silverado, and it just turned 300,000 miles(original, never rebuilt) and it doesnt get treated that great either, so i wouldnt say they are junk

  • i totally agrea, mine has over 118,000 miles on it and still chirps goin into 2nd gear

  • ive had both 700R4 and 4L60E and personally i think the 700R4 was better. after slamming gears in the 4L60E they started to grind and i would have to shift slower so i wouldnt tear the gears up. but i never experienced a problem with the 700R4

  • nd can you believe people would rather hear annoying ass bass instead of that sweet ass exhaust?

    man....name your car envy

  • i get the best of both worlds - you should hear the bass I get from my car's exhaust :P my videos don't do it justice at all - it's much diff in person haha

  • What brand/model number headers are you running???

  • u lucky u live in a strai ass street but shit car i have an 88 convert witha 350 tpi sound ridiculous

  • camaro and corvette are the best

  • nice sound

  • Music to my ears dude nice

  • 305 or 350?? Bolt ons and lotsa power or does it just sound damn good stock with open headers

  • Crate 350 with a different cam, not sure which one. The guy before me did the work, and was pretty sloppy. Since this video, the exhaust has been completed, and the rear has been swapped in favor of a 3.73 posi rear. This car is seriously quick now. My friend has an auto 98 LS1 Camaro and it stays with it through 2 gears, after that the LS1 has much better range and just walks away. I have a new 350 + .060 going in to produce 420 lb/ft and 365 hp in a couple weeks. I'll have a video soon.

  • damn nice stuff. Im looking at getting a TBI 305, gonna try this guys build, Heads, Crank, Intake, carb etc basic stuff and his 305 is doing about 320 Ftlbs and 298 HP. damn fine for a 305.

  • Those numbers are very strong for a TBI 305, damn.

  • @plasmeh hay you should check out my z its a lot like yours but mine has a role cage and HOLE lot more.. same year , but yeah its on myspace, & my name is mikehenke@live.com... check it out let me know what you think ... pluse im new at this youtube stuff so help me thew it... but alsome car thow bro

  • @plasmeh hell yeah they are i got a 350 with tpi and i bet mine dont even make that. but thats sweet if it does haha.

  • I'm pretty sure you're way ahead of me, but make sure to upgrade the transmission as well. I've heard that stock transmissions aren't really good in 3rd gens if you upgrade your power, a lot of complaints about the tranny being too weak and breaking.

  • lol yeah i know about that. thx tho ;)

  • When I had open headers on my camaro my neighbors were always bitching whenever it was started or driven. I wish I could of just kept it like that, sounds amazing. :D

  • Oh man does it ever sound good. I'm lucky enough to not have neighbors that complain about it though. The dual exhaust is pretty damn loud too, and they haven't said a thing. Just got done swapping a 3.73 posi rear into it and laid down quite a few stripes in front of the house and they don't care about that either haha

  • i have a 87 trans am with the 305 tpi. i cut the exhuast off also cut the Y pipe in half. i wish my car sounded like that that car sounds fucking kick ass

  • sounds kick ass

  • gives me chills !!!

  • Haha, me too, sounds nasty with the exhaust all hooked up too. I'd love to put electronic cutouts in as well...

  • tht would b sick. yea im gettin an 86 z28 for $1,100 its all stock but its a good deal. and itll go nice w the 68 camaro ss lol

  • Sounds great!, when are you gonna post a video with the headers hooked up to the x-pipe & what type muffler are you runnin'?

  • I have several videos up now with the headers and exhaust hooked up. Just check out my profile page. The mufflers are Dynomax bullets, but I may change them to a couple of Borlas.

  • whats open headers mean? sounds sweet. does it mean you have no exhaust hooked up yet just the headers?

  • Yes, open headers means there is no exhaust hooked up to the headers. It can also mean you are using cut-outs at the headers, but I wasn't.

  • Sounds awesome. Is that a t5 trans?

  • sounds like it.

  • Yup, T5.

  • sounds good

  • Very nice looking car!

  • thanks, got the true duals finished up, check my other video out
