If...and I do mean, IF i was to have yanked it to this video...would anybody judge me? :-D HAHAHA! Chris Thile is amazing...Noam Pikelny is just as much!
@jamesnm21 You don't listen to a lot of Punch Brothers do you? While I agree with the Flecktones comment, Punch Brothers are far from marginal; yes there are, for lack of a better term, simpler songs that follow basic chord progressions, the entire first album Punch is a great work unto itself. I would go out on a limb and say all four movements of the Blind Leaving the Blind are at the very LEAST "Brilliant"
watch videos for "Punch Bowl" "Sometimes" "Beekeeper" "Song for a Young Queen" etc...
@Mcconntl Lol, no, not really. I have seen them live and my comment mainly reflected that experience. They did some awesome stuff, but some of it I didn't really "get", probably because I don't know them that well. I'll check out the videos.
@BattyKellen Certainly the equal to any mandolinist living today. Would like to see him continue to develop this kind of stuff more and do less of the marginal stuff he does with his group Punch Brothers. Kinda like Bela Fleck and the so-so stuff he does with the Flecktones when he's capable of brilliant music, as shown by his numerous collaborations with other musicians.
@gblove82 No, unfortunately, and I would have liked to. I liked the original Flecktones very much. Need to pick up their new album with Levy. No disrespect to Punch Brothers, btw, I saw them live and they do some great stuff.
The thing about this mando playing that is so shocking is that the technical aspect is so seemingly effortless the performance is astounding. What a gift.
I just want to say that Chris Thile is pure genius. He is brilliant! He makes me want to cry when I watch him. It doesn't matter what he plays, I am always moved.
Whoever uploading this needs a hand shake! Very well done! I can't tell you how many times i rewound and played this back on the blu-ray. You should also upload the bit after this when they start playing the piece from 'Carmen'
@intermission Sorry, I know I'm not part of this conversation, but what were they recording for exactly? I heard something about a comedy score, but I couldn't find what it was exactly.

what style of music would this be considered?

@SwampFoxPhotography Not really sure, but to me, much of it reminds me of Django Reinhardt's stuff. Check "Gypsy Jazz".

True greatness! Seems almost a pity to waste it on a comedy flick. . . Still, a good opportunity for a worthy musician.
