The new constitution was signed the 17th May 1814. The same day as Christian Fredrik was chosen to be the next Norwegian king. He ruled the country for only a few months before he had to surrender the throne to the Swedish king, Karl Johan already the 10th October 1914. Norway was then in union with Sweden in almost 100 years until 1905.

@saremaganti That's correct. The majority of Norway's inhabitants prefers American to British. It's probably this 'lazyness' that goes around. Because it is a LOT easier - for a Norwegian at least - to learn the American way of speaking English. I think it has got something to do with the fact that our way of talking resembles the American way a lot more than the British way.

I apologise for the somewhat tangled explanation the latter sentence contained.

@saremaganti Actually many Norwegians speak pretty good english,the accents they pick up from TV..Im of dual nationalities US/Norway and moved here as a kid and was amazed as to how well some spoke..then you have the ones you probably have interacted with,speaking "gamer english" where everything is spoken fast and with sort of a nervous voice.

But to their credit they are very good at adopting various accents spoken in english.But some older people have that horrible Norwegian accent mentioned
