I wish some of these wonderful songs from the 50s and 60s would have a come back by a new talent. Then the kids today would see what beautiful music we grew up with.
I remember hearing it on Luckey Lager Dancetime..out of KOB in Albuquerque...those were good days..Ivory Joe was one of my absolute favorite singers..
When my twins were babies I use to sing this to them...now that they're 13, when I sing this to them they just stare at their old man like he's crazy.
I remember when this was first released, right at a very bitter sweet moment in my life. I will always remember what might have been when I hear this song
To me this wonderful song is sad and beautiful beer joint music. Every music box in every bar I went to with my pops had this song on it,. I remember the patrons giving me dimes to play a song on the juke box and i would usually pick this one. I wasn't reading yet but I recognized the "shape" of the words. I was about five years old and could barely read the "menu as I wasn't tall enough. "Wow... love this song and miss my pops.
@nightrover2112..........To take you back to the music would be grand .Life for me then was pretty hard .Those petticoat's ,if you rember ,were a real pain.
I just got the new Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears CD Scandolous, and they do a kick ass version of this. Ivory Joe is the classic but this new version is done with great respect and "homage"
i was watching a movie one late evening when this song came on...i almost fell off the couch!!!! something "click" and i remembered the early days of my youth....it is like time stood still and i was back during that time....i have to locate this song and i finally did after a long search........
What a great tune and what a timeless message. The person who voted thumbs down on this must have experienced a mouse fart. The only problem with this song is that it is too short.
I love this song! There was also a version by a woman, about the same time, but I can't find it, and cannot remember her name. All I remember, was that it was very slow.
This was my mom and stepdad's first dance, then my sister and brother-in-law's and next september it will be the song I dance to with my hubbie at OUR wedding!
The original...the best. Thank you, Ivory Joe for bringing us such great music. Shame on America for not allowing many of his songs to air in certain parts of the country. I hate "covers."
I am of the opinion that the fifties could have given us just three songs: "Sea Cruise", "This Little Girl's Gone Rockin'" and this and it still would have been a great decade! Now you know what made Pat Boone the star he was! Thanks for sharing this!
This is my husband's favorite song, we went together in high school and then got married 1 year ago. We are 75! Maybe it should be Since I REMET You Baby!
Such a lovely song!!! Many many thanks for posting this. Without you tube I possibly would have never have heard this song. I am really greatful for people who share their treasures with us. My love to you.
Thank you for posting this. Loved it since I heard it on a film soundtrack twenty years or so ago. He wrote hundred and hundreds of songs, and I have a few of them but I wouldn't have thought he ever achieved this miraculous simplicity too many times. Not many have.
Yep-this IS the best & finest. I've loved this song since I first heard it in the late 70's as a kid. I made a tape of the song for a special lady in my life in the mid 90's, & she loved it. We parted eventually, but I still love this song! Ivory Joe knew how to lay it down!
also I Need You So......in 1957 he invited Ivory Joe out to Graceland and told him "I vory Joe, I sure do like your songs, you ain't got any more of 'em for me, do you?" and Ivory Joe told him about "My Wish Came True"
I well remember this great song and Ivory Joe Hunter. I had just gotten into the army in late 1956. This song was on most juke boxes and I played it many times. It really made me think of a girl back home.
What a wonderful man. I was told he even did the Grand Ole Opry. If that's true, it tells us that even back then, Mr. Hunter had that appeal and people loved him.
I love the name, it just rolls of the tongue; Ivory Joe Hunter. This song and "A Tear Fell" are two of my favorite songs of all time. The line from "A Tear Fell" is one off the most memoriable: "The teardrops that you steppped on as you danced across the floor were crushed like my poor heart was when you walked out of my door". Perfect sentiment for a teenage boy who just got dumped, I remember it well!
One of the first songs I loved as a kid, about fifth grade. I remember those notes tinkling so slowly out of the radio. It seemed so solemn, somehow. Thanks for posting.
