i love this album, i think its my fave, i love cmon and love me, anything for my baby, room service, she, rock bottom, i just love genes voice in laidies in waiting, and two timer, and paul sounds so fresh on room service, a perfect album, and rock n roll all night is a classic
This era, the time I was riding the KISS bandwagon. I got off after the brilliant "Destroyer", for obvious reasons....simply outgrew them, they imploded due to fame, fortune, corp.greed and internal friction. Saw them Aug.16, 76' at their peak. I was 13....priceless.
Anyway, my point is they weren't the same after 77', they stopped being a rock band and became a product.
This LP, among my vinyls, always tells me to "C'Mon and Play Me".
Way back then... when KISS rocked harder than hell.
I loved them since the first LP, but 1975 was the year I finally saw them live. I'm glad that my first time was on the Dressed To Kill tour. It's my favorite album, and I have great memories of the show. Plus, it was the tour that composed the future classic Alive.
Always been one of my favorite albums. I for one really dug Anything For My Baby - it starts out so strong, terrific riff and that first verse is just KILLER - but the chorus just falls flat... great point on the garage sound, Pacisdiligo, such a raw, unproduced, bare-bones sound to it.
Oh yah! One of the great early studio albums. Love the raw, almost garage band sound of this one. Has some of their best stuff. Their first three albums were similar in that respect. Would have loved to see their '75 tour!
The KISS Alive 35 Tour is GREAT for anyone who wants to see CLASSIC 70s KISS songs live! I just saw them last night in SC, and I was so thrilled to find that all but 3 of the songs they played last night were from their first 6 albums! You just can't beat CLASSIC KISS!!!
im sure you were talking about classic Kiss songs, and not the classic lineup. i got what you meant. Kiss rules, the classic songs....yes you are right. you cant beat it. rock on.
I will just keep giving you 5 ***** man. Your videos are amazing. As you know this is my favorite Kiss album if not my favorite album of all time. My CD is getting worn out lol. This album to me is absolutely sensational.
is a good album but not one of my favorites i agree is the weakest of the first 3 but still very good... yeah i born 4 months after eric death... its very sad he was so amazing ... i dont hate tommy but he is not a true KISS member in my opinion he use to serve cofee to gene before join the band .. eric S plays in revenge carnival and alive 3 he is a true kiss member... but it would be netter if he makes like a more personal version of the costume
The album was a bit rushed because the hotter than hell tour was cut short due to weak record sales and had about a month to work on new material and go back on the road to build a bigger fanbase
It is my favorite Kiss album. I just absolutely love it man. Even Peter had a good song with Getaway. I usually do not like Peter's stuff except for Beth and Hard Luck Woman. I have always thought Peter was the weakest member of Kiss.
It just seems wierd, after Eric gets a song on a KISS album, he dies. When KISS is exploring new ground, they do the reuion tour and after Peter and Ace leave they continue to stay in the makeup, when they should of asked Bruce to come back
I did not know he died until I went to a gas station and a friend of mine told me. I could not believe it. Eric was just such an awesome drummer. Never got to see them live with him unfortunately but I did see them on the reunion tour, Psycho Circus Tour and The Farewell tour which if you ask me should have really been the real Farewell tour and then they should have taken the makeup off and gotten Bruce and Eric Singer back in. Now Eric Singer is the Catman and it just does not seem right.
And Tommy the Spaceman doesn't work either. Ace desinged and thought of the make-up style, its not fair to Ace(or Peter) to have someone else in their make-up
You're comparing apples to oranges and drumming styles. If you want to compare drummers we can do so. Eric Carr was a good drummer but I can name better drummers easily but why bother? Were talking about Kiss and who and what drove Kiss's sound in the 70s. Peter Criss had a few issues that fans are now aware of. But he was the beat behind the sound and he was the catman!
I saw Kiss twice before Peter left the band and he was tight. I saw several videos of Kiss right around the time Alive was released and they were truly Kiss's glory days. Like I said before Eric was a great drummer, all around nice guy but to me he was also the guy that replaced Peter Criss!
Yeah I see where your point. When he started in the band he was the guy who replaced Peter Criss. But when they took off the makeup I thinhk he was seen as a great drummer and not just the guy who replaced Peter.
The point is he was replaceable that fast.. Its sad and disgusting to me that a man could lie in the hosp dying like that and they replace him and just move on their merry way but they did. They could have waited to see if he was going to recover and they didn't. Eric was loyal to the band for 11 years at least they could have waited to see if or not he was going to pull through. Paul and Gene DESERVE no respect as far as I am concerned
What were they supposed to do? I see nothing wrong with what they did. I think they knew he would never be able to play again and wanted to put out a new album.
It''s not like they had to do anything really. Let me ask you this. Had it been Paul that was gravely sick in the hosp do you think for a second Gene would have busted his ass to replace him? lol NOT! It would have been like hold the presses, stop everything, don't do anything... And it doesn't matter that Paul was a founding member because had Ace stayed on and not acted like an idiot with the drugs they probably would have treated him the same way they would Paul. Makes you think!
i agree peters playing stands out on this album. peters skill went downhill after this album and destroyer. some of the drum tracks on love gun are kinda sad.
I listened to the tracks on Love Gun for the umpteenth time and didnt hear anything odd about them. Anything particular you're referring to as far as drum tracks?
Great job!!! I love all your KISS reviews! My 2 cents on Dressed to kill - I think it is up there with DESTROYER as KISS's best of the best. One thing I've always loved about this album is it has a more "raw" rock and roll sound than Destroyer did. Destroyer was definately more polished around the edges...but I love the raw rock sound of Dressed to kill. Some of Ace's best guitar work is on this album as well. Alot of people miss out when they overlook this album!
Hotter Than Hell was more "raw" For me this was the weakest album of the first 3, I have to admit though I catch myself singing the very songs that I called weak, 1-4.
This is why I love talking with other KISS fans, we all love KISS but have strongly varied opinions about them! It's funny, I kind of have backwards opinion than you on this matter. Hotter than hell is one of my least favorite albums...and I can't really even explain why. Of the 1st 3 though I like the first one the best. I have always lumped Dressed to kill and Destroyer in the same catagory, I think because it sounds like they first started to broaden their song writting on Dressed.
Even though Destroyer generally gets the credit for this...I do hear it a little on Dressed to kill, especially in Ace's solos. But hey what do I know....I even love The Elder!!!
I wouldn't go that far and say I love the Elder. I like maybe four or five songs from the Elder. Hotter than Hell is probably one of my favorite albums from KISS, but hey it's all good in the end.
The greatest KIss album.

I thought getaway was the best tune on it as well.To bad it didn't make it on to Alive. It would have kicked major ass.

pretty good KISS studio album.... probly their 4th or 5th best from the 70s. best songs on the album r.....
1) Rock And Roll All Nite
2) C'mon And Love Me
3) She
4) Getaway
5) Rock Bottom

Getaway has to be one of the most underrated songs they ever did. Peter kicked ass singing lead!

Best song on this is album is Love Her All I Can.
The worst song is Two Timer.
I would give this abllum 8.5 / 10.
